Recalling last year's
to Vermont for a
: at some v nison
steaks, I can remember
th9 v, ry first feelings I
exl vz ienced while steppin..,
out of .the warm
ca [n on opemng day.
Here was a new and
excitin place; a mu.ch
needed vacation; crisp
cold air that almost hurl
my city lungs; and ever
hresent in my min.d, wa ,
shot at a trophy buck.
Only 30 some-odd
miles from the
Canadian border, I was
in one of
beautiful
the most
wilderness
sections of New
without a detailed map
of the area showing
landmarks for orientation.
And how many
hunters bother to bring
along a bulky tope map
of the area they are
hunting?
A compass can help.
to be sure. But remember
that to make it work
for you, you must learn
to orient yourself from
your point of security.
North, South, East, or
West will make little difference
if you find yourself
hopelessly lost. Just
traveling in the direction
you "think" you
came from does not
always work.
stantly looking back to
observe and remember
prominent landmarks,
so that you can use them
when you return.
Use natural landmarks
such as reads,
rivers and riverbeds, or
land masses such 'as
ridges.
And here is a rule that
will (if followed),
revent you from
ecoming lost in the
ild: The moment you
become disoriented,
STOP: go no further until
you look back and
locate a familiar landmark
to regain orientation,
then, proceed.
adwsed Director of
Recreation Bill Masci
that all existing equipm.e.nt
to the town at no cost.
Masci had *sought a
uniforms used
by the league last year.
Th town had gwen the
Jaycees $1,200 to help
defray the cost of running
the league. The
estion being, even
ough that money had
been used to purchase
the uniforms, to whom
do they officially
belong? The Jaycees
some $2,900 in running
the operation.
The Jaycees also
stated they will continue
to support the league in
one of three ways: running
and end-of-season
banquet, funding the
league or purchasing
equipment for the
program. They also
asked, if possible, the
name of the league
A group of local individuals
interested in
season will meet
Forget all that stuff
