The project is about <strong>the</strong> <strong>co</strong>nstruction <strong>of</strong> a<br />
new double electrified l<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> 28 km <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
part <strong>of</strong> Rododafni-Rio with signalization and<br />

an electrification system <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> part <strong>of</strong> Kiato-<br />
Rododafni (71 km). The project is<br />
<strong>in</strong>dispensable for <strong>the</strong> <strong>co</strong>mpletion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Greece</strong> to <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>co</strong>untry; to that<br />
extent <strong>Greece</strong> has been bound towards <strong>the</strong><br />

Additionally <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e will operate <strong>in</strong> a big art<br />
<strong>of</strong> its length as a suburban rail towards<br />

The project is a first priority for <strong>the</strong><br />

part <strong>of</strong> PP22 (TEN-T) and with its <strong>co</strong>mpletion<br />
<strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> whole length <strong>of</strong> Ath<strong>in</strong>a –<br />
Thessaloniki will be double and will have<br />
been additionally upgraded so as to<br />
significantly reduce travell<strong>in</strong>g times (<strong>the</strong><br />
reduction <strong>in</strong> this particular part only is<br />
expected to be 50 m<strong>in</strong>utes, while <strong>the</strong> time<br />
for <strong>the</strong> total trip Ath<strong>in</strong>a –Thessaloniki is<br />
expected to 3,5 hours). With <strong>the</strong> <strong>co</strong>mpletion<br />
<strong>of</strong> this part <strong>the</strong> transfer <strong>of</strong> passengers as well<br />
as cargo is facilitated from and to areas on<br />
<strong>the</strong> length <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ath<strong>in</strong>a – Thessaloniki l<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
The project <strong>co</strong>ntributes towards <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
