1. Develop and apply social studies vocabulary through exposure to a
variety of text and portions of text
a. Acquire new vocabulary through listening to and reading a variety
of grade-appropriate print and non-print sources
b. Discuss words and word meanings as they are encountered in texts,
instruction, and conversation
c. Make connections to prior knowledge and new vocabulary by
listening, reading, and responding to a variety of texts
