<strong>Application</strong> Instructions<br />

All <strong>International</strong> <strong>Student</strong>s (non-U.S. citizens wishing to study in the U.S. under an F-1 visa) are required to:<br />

• Complete <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> and <strong>International</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Application</strong> (pages 1&2) and<br />

signed by applicant only.<br />

• If the applicant currently resides outside of the United States, submit a copy of Test of English as a<br />

Foreign Language (TOEFL.) Score of 61 or higher on IBT is required for admission. This test is<br />

given in countries throughout the world. Testing information is available from www.toefl.org.<br />

• Transcripts of secondary education must be submitted with an official English translation. Postsecondary<br />

(collegiate) transcripts must be evaluated by an educational credential evaluator. A<br />

recommended service is Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), www.ece.org.<br />

• Provide a letter of support from a local sponsor.**<br />

It is estimated that the cost of study at <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> is about $15,000 U.S. dollars per academic<br />

year.<br />

The <strong>College</strong> DOES NOT provide dormitory facilities nor does it assume responsibility for student housing. It<br />

is the student’s responsibility to make necessary housing arrangements.<br />

Financial aid is not available to any <strong>International</strong> student at <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The U.S.<br />

Immigration and Naturalization will not approve any off-campus employment unless the student is able to<br />

present and document that there has occurred unforeseen changes in economic circumstances since arrival in the<br />

United States. It is imperative that adequate sources of finances be available, without working, for the duration<br />

of the study.<br />

<strong>Application</strong> Deadline: Applicants for January admission must complete admissions procedures by<br />

November 15. Applicants for September admission must complete admissions procedures by June 1.<br />

**A local sponsor is a person, residing in <strong>Jefferson</strong> County, who will provide support for the student while<br />

living in the U.S. The sponsor is able to act on the students behalf in the case of emergencies. The sponsor will<br />

be a family member, friend, associate, or acting on behalf of an agency or church.
