Chapter 1
Confounding questions, confusing quips, baffling
riddles, puns aplenty … this is Alice’s Adventures in
Wonderland.
Lewis Carroll’s tale enraptures 10-year-old Robin.
She loves Alice’s resolve, even after her descent
down the Rabbit Hole.
Robin‘s life also plunged into the unknown when
she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Alice’s
Adventures in Wonderland is her retreat. It makes
life better whenever she opens her well-worn edition.
The escape she finds in its pages is the inspiration
for her Make-A-Wish ® experience.

Make-A-Wish America isn’t here just to put fleeting smiles on the faces
of children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. We
don’t just offer an afternoon-long respite from the heart-rending medical
challenges they face.
We aspire to more. We think bigger. Our impact lasts. For wish kids,
for their families, for everyone who makes their wishes possible, for
everyone who hears their stories.
Dive into Robin’s wish to go to Wonderland with Alice. Walk beside
her as she sheds the fear of her diagnosis, lays down the burden of her
treatments and reclaims her childhood – and her future.
It takes an entire community to make each wish special. Robin’s wish
came together thanks to people like you.

Chapter 2
They’re friendly, these Make-A-Wish volunteers. But
they ask a question just as difficult as anything the
Gryphon and the Caterpillar posed to Alice: You can go
anywhere, be anything, meet anyone or have anything.
What is your wish?
Who can answer a question that big? Robin can. She
unravels the question, follows every thread through her
imagination, through everything that can possibly make
her happy.
And then, she knows.
“I wish to go to Wonderland with Alice.”

Wish Impact Study
Our first-ever Wish Impact Study surveyed health
professionals, parents of wish kids and Make-A-Wish
volunteers. We asked questions to gauge what effect
our mission has on the children we serve, their families
and their communities. The results confirm what we’ve
always believed: that Make-A-Wish experiences make the
world better.

Chapter 3
The curtain goes up. The theater simple troupe performs a
production based on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It
delights the audience.
The performance starts an incredible chain of events for
theater simple co-founder Llysa Holland. She receives a
curious request … to be part of a Make-A-Wish experience.
Can you? Could you? Will you?
Llysa listens to every detail about Robin. And she can’t
remember the word “no.”
Days later, Llysa has transformed into the White Rabbit,
right down to her hat, waistcoat and pocketwatch. She
knocks at Robin’s door.
Inside, Robin doesn’t know her wish is about to unfold.
Then she hears the rapping at her door. She opens it
and sees the White Rabbit’s outstretched paw – and an
invitation to play croquet with The Queen.

More than three decades of eclectic theater performances all came
together, as if for this one wish. Llysa Holland’s stage experience gave
her a chance – a chance to say “yes” to one wish kid, a chance to be
part of something that’s far greater than any one person could ever be.
Llysa’s theatrical background helped her live her father’s advice: “Love
happens when someone else’s needs become greater than your own.”
Orchestrating Robin’s wish involved too many hours to count. Nearly
200 people. Perfect timing. But Llysa would do it again, no hesitation.

“It was a literal helium balloon
for the spirits,” she says.
Yes, this wish is a transformational episode in Robin’s life. But
ask Llysa – it’s just as important to her and to every other person
who participated.

Chapter 4
Come, we shall have some fun now!
Why is the Space Needle like a Rabbit Hole?
Well, that’s an easy one – both are the beginning of trips to
Wonderland. The clues Robin unravels as she overlooks Seattle
are far more perplexing. But she revels in each puzzle. She
finds her clue and bolts from the Space Needle … to a proper
tea party. Then a catamaran takes her to Wonderland. Robin
spends the night in the woods and wakes to more adventure:
croquet, quizzes, encounters with Wonderland’s famous
denizens – and her first encounter with Alice!
And yes, she’s crowned the new Queen. Wonderland
celebrates with a picnic.
Robin boards a seaplane bound for home. The White Rabbit,
the former Queen and her retinue, the Cheshire Cat and all
the rest wave as she flies over them.

Chapter 5
Robin’s story has really just started. Her life is full
of possibility. Someone just needed to remind her.
Now, she can talk about the future … she can look
forward to the years ahead.
So much happened to make Robin’s wish possible
– things she’ll never see. The donors, the sponsors,
the volunteers all across the country. Robin’s mother,
J.T., tells us her entire family sees the world in a
new light:

where it is a wellspring of joy, awe, and gratitude,
where it reminds us that we are surrounded by love
and support, where it kindles hope, and where it
renews our understanding of the profound positive
impact made by acts of kindness.”

and laughter to children and families
when they need it most. Since the firstever
official Make-A-Wish experience 30
years ago, we have counted Disney as
a dedicated friend. The relationship has
grown from special experiences at Disney
theme parks to helping us grant cruise,
entertainment, sports, and Disney Store
shopping wishes – more than 75,000
and counting. Disney helps us grant more
than 45 percent of our wishes each year.
