<strong>David</strong> <strong>Horobin</strong> has unique qualifications and experience within the building industry in California and the<br />
United States. His British architectural education has given him a leading-edge approach to the new world of<br />
green and sustainable architecture and design. From his 25 years of experience with solar-electric<br />
incorporation in architecture, to him being a founder and pioneer of the ICF industry in the US, as well as his<br />
commitment to green architecture, Mr. <strong>Horobin</strong> brings a unique dimension to any development team. His<br />
approach to this philosophy incorporates the latest proven technologies for fire-resistant, storm resistant<br />
and earthquake resistant construction, balanced with green and energy-efficient design practices, all within<br />
a cost-effective framework of construction.<br />
EXPERIENCE<br />
2004-Present: Founder and principal of Residential Design Services (R.D.S.), Napa, Ca., specializing in<br />
green, sustainable and energy-efficient architecture. As well as designing such buildings, RDS is an<br />
architectural consultant to various ICF manufacturers and consults with other architectural, engineering and<br />
development companies regarding “green” and “sustainable” building practices. In 2006, R.D.S. entered into<br />
an association with Camargo & Associates, Architects, A.I.A., San Jose, Ca.<br />
2001-2004: Co-Founder and President of Packaderm Equipment, <strong>Inc</strong>., importers of Roll-Pack efficient trash-<br />
compaction equipment, Napa, Ca.<br />
1992-2001: Founder of President of Progressive Foam Building Systems, <strong>Inc</strong>., manufacturer and compiler of<br />
the first complete ICF building system that included ICFs, waterproofing, stuccos and adhesives, all<br />
warranted together as a system. Designed ICF system for non-energy applications.<br />
1988-1992: Founder and Vice President of Research & <strong>Development</strong> for ConForm, <strong>Inc</strong>. (now Conform<br />
Pacific), manufacturer of the SmartBlock ICF system. Designed product line of ICFs and was first to achieve<br />
Evaluation Report from all three major code authorities, ICBO, SBCC & BOCA, as well as Dade County, Los<br />
Angeles and San Francisco.<br />
1985-1988: Co-Founder and President of Therma-Manufacturing, <strong>Inc</strong>., licensed by “Isorast” (original<br />
German ICF inventor) to manufacture first U.S. ICF product, “IsoForm”. Managed first ICBO Evaluation<br />
Report for ICF product.<br />
1979-1985: Co-Founder and Principal of E.C.S., architectural energy design firm in San Jose, CA. Specialized<br />
in energy-efficient, passive and active solar architecture as well as innovative energy systems design.<br />
1978-1979: Carl Holvick Construction. Worked on designing Tilt-up concrete projects in Houston, TX and<br />
Silicon Valley, Ca.<br />
1978: Immigrated to United States<br />
1969-1974: Tripe & Wakeham Partnership, London, England. During College breaks, worked on major precast<br />
concrete projects for British Post Office and Middle East development projects.<br />

1976 First Class Honours, Diploma in Architecture (Royal Institute of British Architects part II - U.S.<br />

Oxford, England, U.K. First Class Honours for thesis on “Venice (Italy): The Reconstruction of a City”.<br />

AWARDS<br />
1985: Received the State of California Energy Design Award from Governor Deukmejian for the Kobza<br />
Residence, Palo Alto, CA, for geothermal heating & cooling, active, passive and photovoltaic (solar-electric)<br />
integrated solar systems: the first home in the US to have utility (PG&E) tied photovoltaic cogeneration<br />
capabilities.<br />
1984: Received National Energy Award from President Ronald Reagan and Secretary of Energy Donald<br />
Hodell for Dusan Tools commercial building, Gilroy, CA, for geothermal and passive solar integrated<br />
architecture.<br />
1984: Runner-up (Honorable Mention) at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) Gold Nugget Awards<br />
for Dusan Tools Building.<br />
1978-1990: received various awards from the NAHB (now Homebuilders’ Association for industry<br />
contributions to energy design and systems innovation and networking associations)<br />
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS<br />
Member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Redwood Empire Chapter, Northern California.<br />
Life Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, having achieved his R.I.B.A. Part II.<br />
1982: Founder and Vice President of CABEC (California Association of Building Energy Consultants which Mr.<br />
<strong>Horobin</strong> initiated through the N.C.B.I.A. and founded to bring standards, professionalism and ethics to the<br />
California Title 24 consulting industry.<br />
CIVIC/COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP<br />
A member of the Board of Directors of Men’s Divisions International, a North American affiliate of men (in<br />
association with The Family of Women) chartered to promote strong and productive relationships between<br />
men and between men & women, as well as providing a curriculum of leadership trainings which Mr. <strong>Horobin</strong><br />
co-developed and presently leads.<br />
PUBLICATIONS<br />
Various articles in Concrete Homes Magazine, Accent Magazine, and a variety of newspapers, mostly on<br />
energy efficiency, ICF design and construction.<br />
Currently compiling a book on relationships between fathers and sons aimed at the awareness it takes to<br />
break the chains of distrust, abuse and ego between the two to mitigate inherent problems in future<br />
generations.<br />
PERSONAL INTERESTS<br />
Active in Boy Scouts of America with his two sons, one of which is working on his Eagle Scout project, active skier,<br />
scuba-diver and golfer. Mr. <strong>Horobin</strong> is active in his local U.S. Green Building chapter initiating and creating new<br />
building design ideas and philosophies. He is also active in promoting the Solar Sebastopol initiative.<br />
