Educational Objectives<br />
The 30th Annual Symposium: Clinical update in<br />
Anesthesiology, Surgery and Perioperative <strong>Medicine</strong> is designed to<br />
help busy pr<strong>of</strong>essionals advance their knowledge and keep current by<br />
providing a review <strong>of</strong> innovations, recent advances and best practices<br />
in cardiothoracic, vascular and general anesthesiology, surgery,<br />
perioperative medicine, and critical care. in addition, two hands-on<br />
workshops wiil be conducted for interested participants (ultrasound<br />
guided regional blocks, anesthesia simulator).<br />
At the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the symposium, participants wiIl be<br />
able to:<br />
1. Describe new diagnostic modalities, therapeutic agents and<br />
management strategies in the fields <strong>of</strong> cardiothoracic, vascular and<br />
general anesthesia, surgery, critical care and perioperative medicine<br />
2. Recognize and implement best practice anesthetic management <strong>of</strong><br />
patients with significant comorbidities<br />
3. Discuss the current management <strong>of</strong> the patient with cardiac disease<br />
4. Regional Block Workshop participants: Scan the relevant<br />
nerves <strong>of</strong> the brachial plexus, the femoral nerve, and the sciatic<br />
nerve using ultrasound technology, identify the anatomy,<br />
and direct a regional block needle to the appropriate location<br />
to perform the desired nerve block under direct ultrasonic<br />
visualization.<br />
5. Anesthesia Simulator Workshop participants: Review and<br />
practice managing cardiac ischemia, dysrrythmias and cardiac arrest,<br />
as well as rare and critical pulmonary and cardiovascular events.<br />
