Educational Objectives
The 30th Annual Symposium: Clinical update in
Anesthesiology, Surgery and Perioperative Medicine is designed to
help busy professionals advance their knowledge and keep current by
providing a review of innovations, recent advances and best practices
in cardiothoracic, vascular and general anesthesiology, surgery,
perioperative medicine, and critical care. in addition, two hands-on
workshops wiil be conducted for interested participants (ultrasound
guided regional blocks, anesthesia simulator).
At the conclusion of the symposium, participants wiIl be
able to:
1. Describe new diagnostic modalities, therapeutic agents and
management strategies in the fields of cardiothoracic, vascular and
general anesthesia, surgery, critical care and perioperative medicine
2. Recognize and implement best practice anesthetic management of
patients with significant comorbidities
3. Discuss the current management of the patient with cardiac disease
4. Regional Block Workshop participants: Scan the relevant
nerves of the brachial plexus, the femoral nerve, and the sciatic
nerve using ultrasound technology, identify the anatomy,
and direct a regional block needle to the appropriate location
to perform the desired nerve block under direct ultrasonic
visualization.
5. Anesthesia Simulator Workshop participants: Review and
practice managing cardiac ischemia, dysrrythmias and cardiac arrest,
as well as rare and critical pulmonary and cardiovascular events.

Anesthesiologists, cardiothoracic, vascular and general surgeons,
cardiologists, intensivists, nurse anesthetists, physicians in training,
perfusionists, physician assistants, and nurses.
