A. Action Items:
1. Approval of Director of Bilingual/World Languages Position and provide authority to
Administration to begin a recruitment and selection process: P. Madden stated the District
continues to address increasing needs in the area of the ELL/Bilingual education and based on
the current conditions and challenges, the program is in need of administrator oversight. At this
time, ELL/Bilingual education is staffed by two coordinator positions, which are “teacher leader”
positions. While the teachers in this position are dedicated to their duties, an administrator with
the authority and qualifications to align the program with the overall five-year plan is needed.
The administration recommends restructuring within the curriculum and instruction department
to meet the requirements of the growing long-term need for leadership in the area of
ELL/Bilingual and World Languages.
P. Madden moved to approve the position of Director of Bilingual and World Languages and
provide authority to Administration to begin a recruitment and selection process; seconded by
W. Baumgart.
E. Langill moved to table the motion until the next board meeting; seconded by B. Brzenk;
Discussion followed. Motion failed with 4 yes votes (S. Edlund, P. Madden, B. Brzenk and E.
Langill) and 5 no votes (K. Rajnicek, J. Como, P. McCaffery, W. Baumgart and D. Warren)
The original motion to approve the position passed with 7 yes votes (J. Como, W. Baumgart, P.
McCaffery, K. Rajnicek, S. Edlund, P. Madden, D. Warren) and 2 no votes (B. Brzenk and E.
Langill).
2. Approval of recommended candidate for the position of Principal of Central Middle School:
P. Madden reported the administration is recommending Rob Bennett for the position of
Principal of Central Middle School. Mr. Bennett’s previous experience and credentials were
reviewed. Salary and benefits will be according to the middle management policies.
P. Madden moved to approve the appointment of Rob Bennett for the position of Principal of
Central Middle School; seconded by J. Como. Motion passed 9-0 in a roll call vote.
3. Approval of recommended candidate for the position of Assistant Principal of Butler Middle
School: P. Madden reported the administration is recommending Alan Busch for the position of
Assistant Principal of Butler Middle School. Mr. Busch’s previous experience and credentials
were reviewed. Salary and benefits will be according to middle management policies.
P. Madden moved to approve the appointment of Alan Busch for the position of Assistant
Principal of Butler Middle School; seconded by S. Edlund. Motion passed 9-0.
4. Approval of recommended candidate for the position of Assistant Principal of Horning Middle
School: P. Madden stated the administration is recommending Steve Fisher for the position of
Assistant Principal of Horning Middle School. Mr. Fisher’s previous experience and credentials
were reviewed. Salary and benefits will be according to middle management policies.
P. Madden moved to approve the appointment of Steve Fisher for the position of Assistant
Principal of Horning Middle School; seconded by W. Baumgart. Motion passed 9-0.
5. Approval of final consideration of non-renewal of replacing teachers, teachers without
appropriate certification and teachers on non-traditional contracts as well as other non-renewal of
teachers if needed: P. Madden explained this is a routine action needed to comply with statutory
timeliness as statute says that non-renewals need to be completed by May 15th and the
preliminary notice of teacher non-renewals needs to be given 15 days prior to that period.
P. Madden moved to approve the final consideration of non-renewal of replacing teachers,
teachers who are not fully certified and teachers on non-traditional contracts as presented;
