are particularly interested
in the following: baby dolls,
dolls' clothes, dolls' prams/
buggies, dressing up
clothes and Playmobil sets
e.g. playground, emergency
vehicles, camper van."
Marvellous Mathematicians
Once we arrived
at the competition
venue, The British
Heritage Motor
Centre, we had
a short while to
relax before being
whisked into the
room where it all
started. We all
had our jobs to
do and were keen
to get started.
Time flew by and
we soon found
ourselves enjoying
a delightful buffet
lunch and then
exploring the
actual museum
itself. We saw
the stunning
Lady Penelope’s
car from the
Thunderbirds
movie and the
dream Aston
Martin that Mr
Collinson wants!
We then
watched the
very entertaining
teachers’ race in
which Mr Collinson came
23rd (it isn’t too bad –
he started 31st!). Then
came our RACE. We
started 22nd and 6th in
our age group and, after
watching for 5 minutes,
which felt like an hour,
we were already in about
15th and 3rd in our age
group. 10 laps before the
finish we found ourselves
11th overall and 2nd in
our age group which is where we
finished. We were so excited we
were screaming inside like mad.
We were then awarded our prizes
- there were so many that we had
to go back twice to collect them!
We were congratulated so much!
We waited excitedly, writing
postcards and diaries, for our plane
back to Paris. From the airport we
all sleepily huddled in the taxi and
fell asleep, got home and went
to bed. It was an unforgettable
day; we are very proud of our
achievements and hope to return
to the finals next year.”
Following the success of the
Maths in Motion Challenge’ Club
at Juniors, we will be running the
Club at Seniors from September
for Year 7 girls.
