year 7 explore
london’s sights
On Thursday 28th June 2012 we were joined by the
Year 2 children from John Ball school to share some
Shakespeare themed activities. These were:
•A visit from William Shakespeare himself! (well, a
convincing actor!)
•A music workshop based on ‘The Tempest.’
•An art workshop making Elizabethan ruffs
•Shakespearian insults
•A drama workshop, also based on ‘The Tempest’.
In the afternoon we were treated to a performance
of The Tempest by Year 10 girls from the Senior
School.
It was lovely to welcome the children from John Ball
and we all had a fantastic day! Mrs Donnelly
memory of their loved ones who succumbed to this
tragic illness. The girls ran the 5K Blackheath Race
for Life Run on Sunday 1st July, both doing really
well, completing the race in 31 and 41 minutes
respectively. To raise funds for Cancer Research
Charity's pioneering work in preventing, diagnosing
and treating cancer, they are having a bake sale
next Wed 11 July.
Statistics show that one in three people will
succumb to this disease. Please support their fund
raising efforts.
“Our trip to St Paul’s Cathedral was lots of fun - the
statues were amazing. I walked up 1500 steps
and the view from the top of the Cathedral was
breathtaking! I saw the whole of London.”
“To reach St Paul’s Cathedral we walked along
the south side of the River Thames and across
the Millenium Bridge, taking photos of The Globe
Theatre and other interesting sights. We found a
street piano which Sophie played to entertain the
passers-by! In the Cathedral’s Whispering Gallery,
you whisper and can hear your whisper going all
around the walls. Later we completed a ‘Maths
Trail’
“The Cathedral was simply stunning. We learnt
about its history and how it had previously burnt
down and been re-built. We worked through
various worksheets and did lots of exploring. “
