Don’t suffer from a
lack of fashion sense
Forget H1N1- use these
fashion tips to avoid
the real sicknesses
plaguing Towson
- push it good.
Ah, push it -
push it real good. Ah, push it - push
it good. Ah, push it - p-push it real
good.”
Now, I bet you’re wondering why
I am writing the lyrics to Salt-N-
Pepa’s 1987 hit “Push It.”
I’ve noticed that “pushing it”
has literally become an epidemic on
Towson’s campus.
Let me clarify.
Humans are unique. Everyone
has a different body composition.
Knowing this, why would you
want to “push” their body into a
shirt that’s too small?
Or wear a pair of jeans that are
obviously too tight?
If you find yourself “at night
working up
a sweat,”
it’s probably
because
you’re having
problems
taking your
small clothes
off.
Seriously
though, big is beautiful, but you
have to do it right.
And guys, don’t think you’re not
guilty of this.
I see you out there with those
small T-shirts on.
Never fear! Dr. Younger is here
to help you.
Just follow my tips, and you’ll be
all right.
Titillitis
Symptoms: Bulging over the cups
and side panels of your bra.
Fix it: Get professionally measured.
Most women (maybe even you)
are wearing the wrong size.
Muffintis
Symptoms: Love handles hanging
out of the sides or waistline of
your pants
Fix it: Wear jeans that fit or buy
a pair of Spanx.
Thighitis
Symptoms: Excessive worn out
spots on the inner thigh of your
pants; too much friction from your
thighs rubbing together.
Fix it: Wear jeans that give you a
little room to breathe down there.
Skinny is in, but not skin tight!
If it’s your perfect pair, buy more
than one and give the denim a rest.
Tummitis
Symptoms: Seeing the bulge of
your tummy while you are fully
clothed.
Everyone should not be able to
tell whether you have an “innie” or
“outie” belly button through your
shirt.
Fix it: Wear
relaxed-fit
shirts and, if
you must, wear
a teeny tiny
T-shirt then
layer it by wearing
a cami or
tank underneath.
Or better yet, just burn the shirt.
It makes you look like a stuffed
sausage anyway.
Bootyitis
Symptoms: Wearing jeans that
are too big or too small that expose
too much of your booty.
Your butt shouldn’t look like two
honey-glazed hams swallowed up by
a pair of jeans.
Fix it: Always try it on, disregard
the arbitrary numerical sizing system.
Don’t be a fashion offender.
If you have to order that bigger
size, like Nike says, “Just do it.”
Remember, confidence is key.
Students ‘make the call’
Imagine if “Harry Potter” were
removed from public libraries
because it promotes the Wicca
religion. Imagine University student
employees not being permitted
to read a book with controversial
cover art while in the
workplace.
On Oct. 1 and 2, Cook Library
presented its Banned Books
Week event, titled “You Make
The Call,” in efforts to see how
Towson University students
would vote if they were faced
with such issues.
The exhibit was on display in
the Cook Library lobby, where
passersby were tempted to take
a moment and think about how
they would vote in each of these
real-life examples of banned
books issues over the past few
years.
“I think it is very good that
the campus is engaging in dialogue.
Not everything is black
and white; there is a gray area in
regards to censorship and when
it is appropriate and when it is
not,” Joyce Garczynski, a reference
librarian said.
You can’t ju judge ju a book
by its cover, cover cove but it is
understood that the
content of the book is
supposed to be
representative of its
cover.
The goal of the event was
to challenge books and book
censorship and to recognize that
this is still a present matter,
Sophomore
not just an issue of past generations.
“I thought it was kind of crazy.
I’ve read all of the ‘Harry Potter’
books. They were a central part
of my childhood. If people want
to read them they should be able
to,” freshman Sarah Shifflett
said.
The majority of votes in the
‘Harry Potter’ debate were in
favor of keeping the book in
school libraries.
“I think it is a creative outlet.
It is just a book. It’s 2009. There
are worse books out there,”
senior Nancy Lolila said.
When it came to the issue of
books with controversial cover
art, the majority voted to allow
a student employee to keep reading
books with controversial covers
at work without being reprimanded
for it. However, some
students disagreed.
“You can’t judge a book by
its cover, but it is understood
that the content of the book is
supposed to be representative
of its cover,” sophomore Kojo
Biney said.
