Fuera de un cordial saludo a todos ustedes, tengo el placer de presentar el primer<br />
volumen del <strong>LAPD</strong> Newsletter, que ha surgido como uno de los temas centrales de<br />
discusión en el <strong>LAPD</strong> workshop realizado el pasado 27-29 de abril en Lovenholm,<br />
Dinamarca.<br />
Fue allí, donde un número de científicos palinólogos, quienes representaban algunos<br />
países de la comunidad palinológica latina, nos reunimos con el fin de discutir temas<br />
relevantes para el desarrollo actual y futuro del <strong>LAPD</strong>; algunos de estos temas serán<br />
mencionados más adelante.<br />
El tema central de este primer editorial es el comienzo del <strong>LAPD</strong> Newsletter. Por tal<br />
motivo, quiero invitarlos a todos ustedes para que se sientan libres, a través de este<br />
medio, para divulgar sus inquietudes, tanto acerca del <strong>LAPD</strong> así como también de los<br />
diversos campos de investigación en Paleoecología. Indudablemente son bienvenidos<br />
artículos cortos donde quieran presentar a toda la comunidad sus avances y/o<br />
dificultades de investigación (reportes), resúmenes, sitios web de interés para todos<br />
nosotros, reseñas bibliográficas (book reviews), encuentros (meetings), congresos<br />
etc,etc.<br />
El <strong>LAPD</strong> Newsletter ha sido programado para ser divulgado semestralmente, y<br />
esperamos mantener su constante producción en los años venideros. Espero sus<br />
comentarios acerca del formato de este volumen inicial, y por supuesto las<br />
sugerencias están bienvenidas para el desarrollo exitoso del Newsletter.<br />
Finalmente, una vez más quiero invitarlos a participar activamente en el <strong>LAPD</strong> News<br />
letter. Cualquier información adicional por favor no duden en contactarme.<br />

Agenda del <strong>LAPD</strong> workshop en Dinamarca<br />
Como se mencionó en el editorial, el pasado 27-29 de abril del presente año nos<br />
reunimos una vez más en Lovelholm, Dinamarca, para discutir algunos puntos<br />
importantes acerca del <strong>LAPD</strong> que inicialmente fueron tocados en Porto Seguro,<br />
Brasil, durante el VII congreso de ABEQUA y posteriormente continuados en<br />
Boulder, USA.<br />
Los temas tratados en Lovelholm fueron los siguientes:<br />
1) Cómo utilizar el porgrama Tilia cuando la gente tiene computadoras Mac?<br />
2) Cómo trabajar con Tilia cuando no se tiene ningún manual, pudiéndose gastar<br />
sólo dos días con otro programa?<br />
3) Es obligatorio trabajar con Tilia para participar del <strong>LAPD</strong>?<br />
4) Podemos enviar nuestros conteos de polen en una hoja de Excel en vez del<br />
formato de Tilia?<br />
5) Sería interesante crear una colección de referencia? Material, gente, tipo de<br />
descripción que necesitamos, dónde comenzar?..etc.<br />
6) Cuál es la estructura que nos gustaría ver dentro del <strong>LAPD</strong> en los próximos años,<br />
trabajo de grupos taxonómicos, coordinación, administración, financiamiento etc.<br />
7) Personal identificado que estaría involucrado en el <strong>LAPD</strong> —coordinadores<br />
regionales.<br />
8) El desarrollo de sitios espejos (mirror sites).<br />
9) El logo y la representación del <strong>LAPD</strong>, Newsletter, enlaces con otros programas.<br />
10) Técnicas de entrenamiento.<br />
11) Desarrollo de una base de datos fotográfica.<br />
12) Desarrollo de investigación, y protocolos para su uso.<br />
A partir del desarrollo de esta agenda, se dio origen al Newsletter, donde nuestro<br />
editor Juan Carlos Berrío, llevará a cabo esta labor con la colaboración del grupo de<br />
Amsterdam.<br />

Logos para el <strong>LAPD</strong><br />
En Lovenholm, se discutió acerca de la elaboración de un logo para el <strong>LAPD</strong>. Varios<br />
de los integrantes de la mesa aportaron esquemas, para un diseño, donde se incluyeran<br />
algunos de los tipos polínicos representativos en las secciones de polen de<br />
Latinoamérica. A partir de esta idea, Rob Marchant encomendó a Mr. James Ward,<br />
en Inglaterra, para la elaboración del arte, y que plasmara gráficamente nuestro<br />
interés.
Una selección de estos gráficos son publicados en este Newsletter. El primero de ellos<br />
se encuentra como portada del presente volumen, mientras que los dos siguientes se<br />
presentan a continuación:<br />
Un par de diseños, un poco más simples, también están disponibles. Sin embargo,<br />
considero que los tres logos en mención son los más atractivos.<br />
Es importante que seleccionemos un logotipo definitivo para nuestro <strong>LAPD</strong>, o tal vez<br />
deseen que estos aparezcan de vez en cuando en nuestros siguientes Newsletter. Es<br />
por ello que deseo conocer la opinión de todos ustedes, para que a manera de<br />
votación tomemos una decisión colectiva al respecto.<br />
