The basic theoretical aspects for the analysis of the combustion<br />
processes in unpremixed systems are discussed in these notes.<br />
In particular, an analysis of the structure of diffusion flames in the<br />
Burke-Schumann limit of infinite reaction rates in given, accounting<br />
for the effects of non-unity Lewis numbers. A discussion is also given<br />
of the phenomena associated with the large activation energies<br />
of the combustion reactions in unpremixed systems; namely the ignition<br />
and extinction processes and premixed reaction fronts.<br />
