20ERA Resumen de padres Angus 0808Es importante destacar que entre la anterior evaluacióny la presente se ecografiaron 6.880 reproductores,significando un aumento del 33%.Esto último, haber incluido nuevamente toros An-Gus medidos mediante técnicas de ultrasonido yevaluados genéticamente en las principales característicasque influyen sobre la calidad y cantidadde carne, es también motivo de orgullo para estaAsociación. En este sentido, aprovechamos paracomunicar que estamos organizando el “TercerCurso de Certificación y Recertificación deEcografistas para la Toma de Datos de Rasgosde Calidad de Carne”, que se realizará enseptiembre próximo, en el establecimiento “ElVolcán” (Balcarce, Buenos Aires) de Dinfe S.A.,nuevamente dirigido por el reconocido genetistaDr. Doyle Wilson, profesor emérito de Iowa StateUniversity (Estados Unidos), quien en esta oportunidadestará acompañado por el ecografista estadounidenseMatt Lane. Este Curso nos permitirácertificar nuevos prestadores del servicio de mediciónpor ultrasonido, así como también recertificar alos ecografistas que trabajan desde hace dos años.Desde entonces, ellos están enviando sus imágenesecográficas al CIIE (Centro de Interpretaciónde Imágenes Ecográficas), creado en 2004en el marco del Programa ERA y establecido enel INTA-Castelar. Allí, las imágenes recibidas de lascaracterísticas carniceras tomadas a campo, soninterpretadas -por técnicos debidamente certificados,en este caso en Estados Unidos- de maneraimparcial y con la máxima calidad académica. Esteservicio del CIIE está disponible para los ecografistashabilitados que trabajan en el país, no sólo paraAnGus sino también para las demás razas de carne,como resultado de los acuerdos correspondientescelebrados, hasta el momento, con las respectivasasociaciones de criadores de Braford, Brahman,Brangus, Hereford y Shorthorn.Como mencionamos, otro de los importantes logrosde esta Asociación es la inclusión, por primeravez, de 268 toros AnGus (20% del total listado) delos 303 evaluados por tres marcadores molecularesasociados a terneza. A este importante puntopudimos llegar gracias al trabajo de colaboraciónconjunta entre la Unidad de Genética Animal delINTA Castelar -en el marco del Programa ERA-,el Laboratorio AgroCiencia -dirigido por el Dr.Patricio Herrmann-, los criadores de AnGus yesta Asociación, apoyado económicamente por elInstituto de Promoción de la Carne Vacuna Argentina(IPCVA). Este trabajo consistió en determinarlas frecuencias génicas en la raza AnGus dela Argentina para dos de esos marcadores: calpasanimalsby ultrasound means. In this sense, we wishto communicate that we are organizing the “ThirdCertification and Recertification Coursefor Ultrasound Technicians” to be held nextSeptember at “El Volcán” farm (Balcarce, BuenosAires) of Dinfe S.A., once again directed by therenowned geneticist Dr. Doyle Wilson, professoremeritus of Iowa State University (United States ofAmerica), who will be accompanied in this eventby Ultrasound Technician Matt Lane from theU.S.A. This Course will enable us to certify newultrasound measurement service providers, as wellas to recertify those technicians who have beenworking for the two last years. Ever since, they aresending their ultrasound images to the CentralizedUltrasound Processing Lab (CIIE - Centro deInterpretación de Imágenes Ecográficas)created in 2004 within the scope of the ERAProgram, and established at the INTA in Castelar.In such facilities, the on-field images of beef traitsare interpreted -by duly certified lab technicians, inthis case from the U.S.A.- in an unbiased fashionand with top-notch academic quality. This servicefrom the CIIE is available for qualified ultrasoundtechnicians working in the this country, not only forAnGus but also for other beef breeds, as a resultof the pertinent agreements subscribed up to thisdate with the Braford, Brahman, Brangus,Hereford and Shorthorn Associations.As it has been previously said, another importantachievement of this Association was the inclusionfor the first time, of 268 AnGus sires (20% of thetotal list), out of the 303 bulls evaluated on threemolecular markers associated to tenderness.This achievement was possible thanks to thejoint efforts of the Animal Genetic Unit of theINTA Castelar (Unidad de Genética Animaldel INTA Castelar) -within the scope of theERA Program-, the AgroCiencia Laboratory(Laboratorio AgroCiencia) -under the directionof Dr. Patricio Herrmann-, AnGus breeders andthis Association, and economically supportedby the Argentine Beef Promotion Institute(Instituto de Promoción de la Carne VacunaArgentina - IPCVA).
