Specific Absorption Rate DataSAR DataThis model wireless phone meets thegovernment’s requirements for exposure toradio waves.Your wireless phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It isdesigned and manufactured not to exceed limits for exposure toradio frequency (RF) energy set by the Federal CommunicationsCommission (FCC) of the U.S. Government and by the Canadianregulatory authorities. These limits are part of comprehensiveguidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energy for thegeneral population. The guidelines are based on standards thatwere developed by independent scientific organizations throughperiodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. Thestandards include a substantial safety margin designed to assurethe safety of all persons, regardless of age or health.The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones employs a unitof measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR.The SAR limit set by the FCC and by the Canadian regulatoryauthorities is 1.6 W/kg. 1 Tests for SAR are conducted usingstandard operating positions accepted by the FCC and by IndustryCanada with the phone transmitting at its highest certified powerlevel in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR isdetermined at the highest certified power level, the actual SARlevel of the phone while operating can be well below themaximum value. This is because the phone is designed to operateat multiple power levels so as to use only the power required toreach the network. In general, the closer you are to a wirelessbase station, the lower the power output.Before a phone model is available for sale to the public in the U.S.and Canada, it must be tested and certified to the FCC and IndustryCanada that it does not exceed the limit established by eachgovernment for safe exposure. The tests are performed inpositions and locations (e.g., at the ear and worn on the body)reported to the FCC and available for review by Industry Canada.The highest SAR value for this model phone when tested for use atthe ear is 0.71 W/kg, and when worn on the body, as described inthis user guide, is 1.13 W/kg. The SAR value for this product in itsdata transmission mode (body-worn use) is 0.38 W/kg. (Body-wornmeasurements differ among phone models, depending uponavailable accessories and regulatory requirements). 2While there may be differences between the SAR levels of variousphones and at various positions, they all meet the governmentalrequirements for safe exposure.
