(Homoptera: Aleyrodidae) was conducted on eggplant andtomato under different conditions through two seasons; 2004 and 2005.Generation numbers, host plants and natural enemies of whitefly weredetermined in coastal region of Syria.Biological studies including life-history parameters of B. <strong>tabaci</strong> andSerangium parcesetosum Sicard (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) were carriedout on some host plants and at fixed temperatures.Evaluation of the Efficiency of the coccinellid S. parcesetosum incontrolling B. <strong>tabaci</strong> on eggplants in cages, greenhouse and open fieldwere achieved. In addition, we evaluated efficiency of the parasiteEretmocerus mundus Mercet. (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae), alone andwith the predator together in controlling B. <strong>tabaci</strong> on eggplants in cages.Results showed that B. <strong>tabaci</strong> has eight generation per year, andspread in coastal region at elevations from 0- 1250 m above sea level, on8 host plants within 30 families. About 50% of adult population and76% of eggs settled on new leaves at top of plant, and 55.8% of newlarvae and 65.3 % of old larvae settled on middle and lower leaves,respectively.In open field, B. <strong>tabaci</strong> was noticed from mid May. The highestdensities were recorded in July, August and September. Its presencecontinued until November. Population densities of B. <strong>tabaci</strong> in thegreenhouse increased sharply in comparison to open field when naturalenemies or insecticides were absent. 13 predators belonging to eightfamilies were recorded on immature stages of B. <strong>tabaci</strong>, and three speciesof parasite (E. mundus, Encrsia formosa and Encarsia sp.) (Aphelinidae)were also recorded on larval and pupal stages. The Predator Dicyphus sp.(Heimiptera: Miridae) was more spread and effective on whiteflies ontomato in all sites. Total immature development period of B. <strong>tabaci</strong> wasshorter (13.8 ±1.8 days) on eggplant at 32±1 °C and longer (19.3 ± 1.8)days on pepper at 27 ± 1 °C. B. <strong>tabaci</strong> adult female life period was 19.3 ±1.8 and 24.9 ±3.3 days at 30 and 25 ± 1 °C respectively. Net reproductiverate (R0) and intrinsic rate of increase r m were the highest (74.56 femaland 0.159 female/ female/ day) when reared on tomato at 25 and 30± 1°C respectively.All larvae of S. parcesetosum died when reared on tobacco (Baladyvariety) as prey host plant. Adult mean life periods were 99.1 and 85.7days for female and male respectively when reared on eggplant andtomato. Net reproductive rate (R0) and intrinsic rate of increase r m werethe highest (174.14 and 0.121 female/ female on eggplant and cucumber١٦٩
