However, unusualcircumstances (interruption of power to the pump,dirt/debris in the sump, flooding that exceeds thepump’s capacity, electrical or mechanical failurein the pump, etc.) may prevent your pump fromfunctioning normally.To prevent possible water damage due to flooding,consult your retailer about a secondary AC sumppump, a DC backup sump pump, and/or a highwater alarm. See the “Troubleshooting Chart” inthis manual for information about common sumppump problems and remedies. For more information,see your retailer, call Flotec customer service at1-800-365-6832 or visit flotecwater.com.1. Know the pump application, limitations, andpotential hazards.2. Do not use in water with fish present. If any oilleaks out of the motor it can kill fish.3. Disconnect power before servicing.4. Release all pressure within system beforeservicing any component.5. Drain all water from system before servicing.6. Secure discharge line before starting pump. Anunsecured discharge line will whip, possiblycausing personal injury and/or property damage.7. Check hoses for weak or worn condition beforeeach use, making certain that all connections aresecure.8. Periodically inspect sump, pump and systemcomponents. Keep free of debris and foreignobjects. Perform routine maintenance asrequired.9. Provide means of pressure relief for pumps whosedischarge line can be shut-off or obstructed.10. Personal Safety:a. Wear safety glasses at all times when workingwith pumps.b. Keep work area clean, uncluttered andproperly lighted – replace all unused toolsand equipment.c. Keep visitors at a safe distance from work area.d. Make workshop child-proof – with padlocks,master switches, and by removing starter keys.11. Installation 312. This equipment is only for use on 115 volt(single phase) and is equipped with anapproved 3-conductor cord and 3-prong,grounding-type plug.Electrical Shock Hazard. Can burnor kill. To reduce risk of electric shock, pull plugbefore servicing. This pump has not beeninvestigated for use in swimming pool areas.Pump is supplied with a grounding conductorand grounding-type attachment plug. Be sure it isconnected only to a properly groundedgrounding-type receptacle.Where a 2-prong wall receptacle is encountered,it must be replaced with properly grounded3-prong receptacle installed in accordance withcodes and ordinances that apply.13. All wiring should be performed by a qualifiedelectrician.14. Make certain power source conforms torequirements of your equipment.15. Protect electrical cord from sharp objects, hotsurfaces, oil, and chemicals. Avoid kinkingcord. Replace or repair damaged or worn cordsimmediately.16. Do not touch an operating motor. Motors canoperate at high temperatures.17. Do not handle pump or pump motor with wethands or when standing on wet or damp surface,or in water.Hazardous voltage can shock, burnor kill. If your basement has water or moistureon floor, do not walk on wet area until all powerhas been turned off. If shut-off box is inbasement, call electric company or hydroauthority to shut-off service to house, or callyour local fire department for instructions.Remove pump and repair or re place. Failure tofollow this warning can result in fatal electricalshock.Do not lift pump by power cord.INSTALLATION1. Install pump in sump pit with minimum diameterof 11” (28 cm). Sump depth should be 15”(39 cm). Construct sump pit of tile, concrete,steel or plastic. Check local codes for approvedmaterials and for proper installation.2. Install pump in pit so that switch operatingmechanism has maximum possible clearance.Adjust the float stop on the rod to adjust thepump “ON” point. “OFF” point is factory preset.3. Pump should not be installed on clay, earth orsand surfaces. Clean sump pit of small stonesand gravel which could clog pump. Keep pumpinlet screen clear.NOTICE Do not use ordinary pipe jointcompound on plastic pipe. Pipe joint compoundcan attack plastics.4. Install discharge plumbing. Use rigid plastic pipeand wrap threads with 1 Teflon tape. Screw pipeinto pump hand tight plus 1-1/2 turns.Risk of flooding. If a flexibledischarge hose is used, make sure pump issecured in sump to prevent movement. Failure tosecure pump may allow pump movement, switchinterference and prevent pump from starting orstopping.5. To reduce motor noise and vibrations, a shortlength of rubber hose (1-7/8” (47.6mm) I. D.,e.g. radiator hose) can be connected intodischarge line near pump using suitable clamps.6. Install an in-line check valve (part numberFP0026-10-P2) to prevent flow backwardsthrough pump when pump shuts off. If using thepump in anything other than a sump application,ensure in-line check valve is installed horizontally.1E.I.
