Is there an age, time or special time to
pursue art? No. Art is for all. Anywhere.
Anytime.
Where do you start your learning as an artist?
Anywhere that you feel comfortable;
learning that takes place outside of the
classroom is equally important.
Do you have influence or motivation of an
artist? Yes. Due to my desire to explore
the theme of being and nothingness in
my work (is it real or not real), my primary
influence has been famed existentialist
Jean-Paul Sartre. Sartre maintained in
his seminal work, Being and Nothingness
(1943) that pure Being, when considered
as a whole, always lies outside the realm
of human perceptibility. The abundance of
Being, in all its forms, cannot be accurately
described or categorized by our consciousness
(awareness) of it.
According to Sartre, Being is simply the
condition of all revelation. I, too, have
experienced revelations when I have
accepted who I am, questioned the status
quo and journeyed on toward personal
enlightenment. My digital paintings reflect
my philosophy of Being: I believe that it is
what it is until I question what it is to find
out what it isn't; because I will never know
what it isn't until I see what it is.
