How did your career relationships psychology
what you do now with art?
I am a professor of counseling, noted
poet, social change activist and digital
artist. It is through these professional
and personal activities that I am able
to preserve “the voice” to critically
challenge the documented historical,
racial, and cultural stereotypes that
exist about people of color, specifically
African Americans. Digital painting
and image manipulation have become
my newest venues for self-expression.
These art forms serve as therapeutic
and productive outlets that help
to mediate the stresses, strains, and
tensions that could impact creativity
and daily living. My artwork has been
designed to provide a digital entree
into some of my lived experiences. I
want to visually bridge the gap that
often separates sorrow and historical
pain from the musical and joyous celebration
of life.
¿Cómo se relacionó tu carrera psicológica
con lo que haces ahora con el arte?
Soy un profesor de consejería, conocido poeta,
activista de cambio social y artista digital.
Es a través de estas actividades profesionales
y personales que soy capaz de preservar “la
voz” para desafiar críticamente los estereotipos
históricos, raciales y culturales documentados
que existen sobre las personas de
color, específicamente afroamericanos. La
pintura digital y la manipulación de imágenes
se han convertido en mis nuevos lugares para
la auto-expresión. Estas formas de arte sirven
como puntos de venta terapéuticos y productivos
