Une fois de plus, Saint-Barthélemy a prouvé ô combien elle était spéciale.

La saison dernière fut spectaculaire, avec des hôtels et des villas remplis de

voyageurs internationaux empressés de retrouver leur destination tropicale

Le Port aura de nouveau vibré

d’activité et nous saluons ici son

personnel dévoué, piloté par

Ernest Brin. Tous se tenaient

régates – la St Barth Bucket ainsi

après deux ans d’interruption.

Saint Barth has once again proved itself to be a very special place. Last season was spectacular, with hotels and villas

filled with international travelers who had been anxious to return to their favorite tropical destination. The season now

kicks off with the annual Gourmet Festival and continues right into the summer with a panoply of cultural and nautical

events. And Harbour magazine has a spectacular front-row seat to take it all in!

The Port was once again humming with activity and we

salute the dedicated staff led by Ernest Brin. They were

on their toes as the two major regattas—The St Barth

Bucket and Les Voiles de St Barth—were back after a

two-year hiatus. What a pleasure to see all those fabulous

boats sailing around the island, from the J-Class beauties

in The Bucket to the highly competitive Maxi Class in Les

Voiles, racing to win a fabulous Richard Mille watch. This

past spring, Saint Barth was once again the epicenter of

Caribbean racing, and we are proud that our small harbor

can master such major events.

Add the excellent restaurants and luxury boutiques and

you have a destination unlike any other. Enjoy your stay

and we hope you’ll come back soon, as the island continues

to surprise us with all it has to offer!

Port de Gustavia qui, une

fois encore, fonctionnait à

plein régime, avec ses quais

de fêtards prêts à tirer un

trait sur ces années passées

et à accueillir 2022 à bras

ouverts, après qu’un cortège

de bateaux eût défilé autour

de l’île le matin du 31

décembre.

C’est vers Thanksgiving que les navires

commencèrent à arriver, animant le port

jusqu’à la fin avril. Nos deux grandes régates,

la St Barth Bucket et Les Voiles de Saint Barth,

se déroulèrent comme prévu et en attirant les

meilleurs marins du monde sur nos côtes à

l’occasion, d’une part, de la prestigieuse

semaine de mars de la Bucket et, d’autre part,

de la hautement compétitive Les Voiles, qui

connut des conditions de navigations particulièrement

favorables en avril.

Anyone who was in

St Barth last season

could sense the excitement

in the air!

Especially around the Port of Gustavia, which

was once again operating under full steam. The

docks were crowded during the holiday season,

with the annual peak on New Year’s Eve. The

port was brimming with revelers ready to forget

the past few years and welcome 2022 with open

arms after a parade of boats sailed around the

island on the morning of December 31.

Yachts started coming in around Thanksgiving,

and the port was hopping until late April. Both

of our major regattas were on schedule with The

St Barth Bucket and Les Voiles de Saint Barth

bringing top sailors from around the world to

our shores for both the prestigious week of The

Bucket in March and the highly competitive

nature of Les Voiles, with some seriously good

sailing, in April.

Villages de course sur les quais, musique live et événements spéciaux permirent

sinon à ces compétitions de gagner en attrait et à la population locale d’en

partager le plaisir en se mêlant à la communauté de bateau.

Le personnel du port attend avec impatience une saison 2023 bien remplie,

alors que nous accueillons les nombreux visiteurs du Port de Gustavia qu’ils

soient à bord d’un voilier, d’un yacht ou tout simplement venus flâner sur les

quais pour admirer la flotte. La West Indies Regatta promet aussi son grand

retour, conférant sa touche de navigation traditionnelle de par ses petits

navires de bois fabriqués à la main, nous rappelant aussi notre héritage, au

temps où ces navires étaient la pierre angulaire de l'île.

The port staff is looking forward to another

busy season in 2023, as we welcome the many

visitors to the Port of Gustavia, on a sailboat,

a motor yacht, or just strolling the docks and

admiring the fleet. The West Indies Regatta promises

to return, adding a touch of traditional

sailing on small hand-crafted wooden boats,

and reminding us of our heritage, when such

vessels were the lifeblood of the island.

n Le navire doit être à jour de ses documents (papiers d’identification du navire et assurances). Assurez-vous que toutes les personnes à

bord sont munies des pièces d’identité nécessaires pour entrer sur le territoire de Saint-Barthélemy.

n Appelez la capitainerie par VHF Canal 12 avant toute manœuvre.

n Aucun navire de passage n’est autorisé à manœuvrer à quai et sur les bouées entre 17h00 et 07h00.

n Tout navire qui entre et sort du port doit emprunter le chenal d’accès.

LA VITESSE MAXIMALE AUTORISÉE DANS TOUTE LA ZONE PORTUAIRE

EST DE 5 NOEUDS.

n La baignade, la pêche et tous les sports nautiques doivent s’effectuer en dehors de la zone portuaire en respectant les règles propres à

Having started his career aged 15 working for

set with 41cts of diamonds.

workshop, before setting up his own at the age

of 22. Following a career working with many of

the major Jewellery Maisons, G joined christie’s

as an international jewellery specialist and

senior director heading and rebuilding lA and

the west coast, where he stayed for nearly a

decade. A london showroom soon followed,

where private clients started finding their way

to his door, and in 2014 the British creator

established his own house where collectors

former studio of British fashion designer sir

A couture piece from the G atelier can be years

in the making and his technical mastery has

gained a cult following of collectors; from

international heads of state and industry to

great collectors from the art world, G has taken

the jewellery world by storm. Jay-Z famously

gifted his wife, Beyoncé Knowles, the “papillon”

butterfly ring, adorned with tsavorites garnets

and white diamonds set in their recognisable

titanium. in 2018 the iconic ring was donated to the Victoria and Albert Museum in london, where it remains

on view as part of the permanent collection. the piece is an exquisite example of naturalism in contemporary

Haute Joaillerie is a quiet and insular world, guarded

C’est Mardi Gras : un défilé formidable serpente dans

les rues de Gustavia, avec ses tambours en peau de

chèvre, ses chars où la musique est bonne, ses danses

dans les rues et ses spectateurs venus faire la fête de

les plus jeunes dans l’ambiance, puis le rythme cadence

de Shell Beach, à l’occasion du Mercredi des Cendres.

A massive parade snakes through the portside of Gustaivia on

Fat Tuesday, with goatskin drums, floats with hot music, dancing

in the streets, and spectators who party all afternoon and evening.

A kids’ parade gets the younger set into the mood, and the beat

continues with a massive bonfire to burn Vaval at Shell Beach

on Ash Wednesday.

Realizing a dream begins with a crystal-clear vision, and for Martin and Michelle

Weinberg, completing their villa in Saint Barth is a dream come true. After years of

construction, daring feats of engineering, and sheer perseverance, this dazzling

blend of artistry and architecture now sits perched on a hillside in Gustavia.

Romantically named ‘Embrace,’ the villa overlooks the harbor with one of the most

spectacular panoramic vistas anywhere on the island, commanding a bird’s eye

view of the yachts in idyllic repose and the crystal blue water scattered with small

islands below.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, the

Weinbergs started visiting Saint

Barth in 2006, and immediately

fell for the charms of the island,

its people, its food, and its culture.

They wanted to know what made

the place tick, and their visits

grew longer each year.


Homme d’action dans tout ce qu’il entreprend, Weinberg avait alors bien conscience, dans son souhait de passer

de longues périodes sur l’île, de manquer d’un projet. Un jour, alors qu’il déambule dans Gustavia, il aperçoit

un drapeau israélien sur la façade d’un immeuble et décide d’entrer pour enquêter. Là, il fait la rencontre de

l’avocat français Emmanuel Jacques, à qui il confie une tâche presque impossible : « Trouvez-moi un terrain

fabuleux, absent du marché, et nous aurons un accord ». Jacques prit alors le défi au sérieux et débusqua

pour les Weinberg une grande propriété qui se trouvait en ces temps aux mains d’une famille locale depuis des

centaines d’années.

Les plans d’une villa spectaculaire commencent à prendre forme, mais non sans s’assortir d’une série de défis

tout aussi spectaculaires. Une rigoureuse ingénierie fut essentielle au maintien de la route derrière le bâtiment

et au renfort du flanc de colline, nécessaire au bon support d’une structure d’environ 1100 mètres carrés, sur

cinq niveaux, au parking souterrain pouvant accueillir jusqu’à 10 voitures et bénéficiant d’un ascenseur en

verre surplombant un mur végétal ainsi qu’une cascade privée.

La décoration de la maison s’inspire de matériaux naturels tels que le sable, le bois flotté et les coquillages.

Elle se compose de cinq chambres à coucher spacieuses et toutes pourvues d’une salle de bains attenante de

type spa, essentiellement blanches mais signées chacune d’une touche de couleur qui les distingue. On y trouve

aussi des baignoires et des tables de massage japonaises extérieures séparées, une immense salle de fitness

équipée par Technogym, un bureau privé jouissant d’une vue imprenable sur l’océan ainsi qu’un accès par

chemin privé depuis l’amont de la villa.

Pièce d’art italienne unique en son genre, au plateau en verre massif et à la base aux maillons d’acier inoxydable

évoquant une chaîne de bateau, la table principale de la salle à manger confère à la villa son caractère nautique.

De cuir et d’acier, une magnifique table de jeu sur mesure a été conçue personnellement par Martin Weinberg

et permet à la fois de profiter d’une soirée jeux de cartes,

d’un marathon d’échecs ou bien d’un Monopoly en famille.

A man of action in everything he undertakes, Weinberg

knew he wanted to spend extended periods on the island

but realized he needed a project. Walking through

Gustavia one day, he noticed an Israeli flag on the façade

of a building and went inside to investigate. There he

met French attorney Emmanuel Jacques and presented

him with a near-impossible task: “Find me a fabulous

piece of land not already on the market and we’ll have

a deal.” Jacques took the challenge seriously and found

the Weinbergs a large property that had been in the

same local family for hundreds of years.

Plans for a spectacular villa began to take shape, but not

without a set of equally spectacular challenges. Serious

engineering was required to hold up the road behind the

proposed building and reinforce the hillside for a 12,000

sq ft, five-level structure that includes an underground

10-car parking garage and a glass elevator overlooking

a live green-wall and private waterfall.

The decor of the house is inspired by natural materials such as sand, driftwood, and seashells. Five spacious

bedroom suites are all primarily white, each with a unique color accent and attached spa-like bathroom. There

are secluded outdoor Japanese soaking tubs and massage tables, a huge Technogym-equipped fitness room,

a private office with an enticing ocean view, and access from a private road above the villa.

The main dining room table is a one-of-a-kind, Italian art piece that adds a nautical touch with a massive

glass top on a base of stainless-steel links evoking a boat chain. A magnificent, bespoke game table in leather

and steel was personally designed by Weinberg for everything from an evening of cards or a marathon chess

match to family Monopoly night.

si les azurs de la mer et du ciel se réfléchissaient dans la maison elle-même. La nuit, les

piscines scintillent grâce à des LED bleues et blanches et soulignent la beauté d’Embrace

lorsqu’observées depuis l’autre côté du port. Tombés amoureux de l’endroit en raison

de son point de vue, le souhait des Weinberg a toujours été de créer une vue enchanteresse

pour ceux qui, sur l’eau depuis les yachts majestueux, observent en retour.

design throughout, while the dramatic exterior

is enveloped by lush tropical gardens.

The two infinity pools—one is 30 meters long—

are surrounded by blocks of split-faced travertine

and limestone, while lined with rare, cobalt blue

tiles, as though the blues of the sea and sky were

reflected by the house itself. At night the pools

twinkle with blue and white LEDs adding to the

allure of Embrace when seen from the far side

of the harbor. The Weinbergs fell in love with

the location because of its viewpoint, and their

goal was also to create an enchanting view for

those gazing out from the majestic yachts on the

water.

Au moment de nommer la villa, l’inspiration est aussitôt venue d’un triptyque de peintures exposé dans

l’entrée de la propriété. Dans une étreinte, des figures abstraites s’y enlacent, et l’émotion qui émane

de ces tableaux résume toutes ces choses qu’embrassent les Weinberg : la famille, les amis, l’amour et

la vie.

En plus d’un personnel particulièrement charmant et professionnel, chaque détail d’Embrace a été

pensé selon les standards des plus élevées d’une villégiature privée et luxueuse, et les clients internationaux

When it was time to name the villa, inspiration immediately came from a triptych of paintings featured in

the entrance. The abstract figures are locked in an embrace and the emotion in the images reflects all that

Fly Me To Saint Barth!

When it comes to getting to your favorite tropical island

destination, nothing could be easier than a charter

flight with St Barth Executive. 75% of the company’s

flights are private VIP charters, while the remaining

flights are primarily medical evacuations (MEDEVAC),

an important service for the island. “The company has

invested a lot for these flights to provide extra security

for tourists by offering medical evacuations 365 days a

year,” says Vincent Beauvarlet, president of St Barth

Executive.

Founded in January 2019, the company flies with a fleet of

four new Pilatus PC12NG and NGX, including F-ONGX,

launched in July 2022, a brand-new model, which is faster,

safer, and quieter, and F-OSBE, which is dedicated to

MEDEVAC.

St Barth Executive services more than 20 countries throughout

the Americas (USA, Central and South America,

and the entire Caribbean including Cuba and Venezuela).

They offer short flights such as SXM-SBH, as well as long

flights to airports such as Atlanta or even Toronto (with

fuel stop). “A direct flight from Miami to SBH takes

4h35min, or with a good wind 4h10min,” says Beauvarlet.

“We fly where you want, how you want,” is the company

motto, as they offer seamless, stressless flights for all VIPs

on their new modern planes, with comfortable state-ofthe-art

cabins.

“The planes have executive cabins, with full options

including leather and fine wood,” adds Beauvarlet.

“The biggest difference with our competition is that our

cabins are not high-density, and we have bathrooms

for the comfort of our passengers. And our ultra-modern

planes have a range of 1700Nm (3000kms) at a speed

of 280 knots (510kms/h) at an altitude of 30,000 feet

(9100m).”

un concept de yacht de 202 mètres. « En architecture, en design automobile ou en sculpture,

un objet naît d’abord dans l’esprit de son créateur comme la figuration d’une vision. Et si

n’êtes pas assez chanceux pour admirer cette construction ou cette œuvre d’art en

personne, la meilleure façon d’en faire l’expérience est la photographie et la vidéographie.

Dans ce cas, le sujet vous est présenté à travers le regard du photographe, avec sa

maîtrise de la lumière, des angles, de la situation, etc. Le travail du photographe est un

prolongement – ou une amplification – du processus de création original » explique Dan

“In architecture, car design, or sculpture, an object is first born from the mind of its creator,

who portrays what they are visualizing. And if you are not lucky enough to be able to take

in that building or piece of art in person, the next great way to experience it is through

photography and videography. In this case, that object is presented to you through the eyes

of the photographer, with their control of the light, the angles, the situation and so on. The

photographer’s work is an extension—or an amplification–of the original creator’s process,”

explains Dan Lenard.

Centerfold, nous avons inversé le processus

créatif. Plutôt que d’attendre qu’il capture le

yacht “physique” avec son objectif, nous

l’avons invité à travailler avec nous dès les

premières étapes de conception, afin qu’il se

penche exclusivement sur l’esthétique du

yacht et apporte son point de vue de photographe

de renommée mondiale. Nous avons

créé un yacht dont le design initial nous

semblait beau, selon la vision qui est la nôtre

et à laquelle Jarmo a ensuite contribué grâce

à son œil professionnel et raffiné, ainsi qu’à

travers son élan créatif », note Lenard.

« Quand je contemple l’océan, je ressens cette force qui m’attire vers l’horizon, et j’ai toujours senti qu’il y avait ce quelque

chose de plus, au-delà du rivage, qui appelait mon nom », ajoute Pohjaniemi. « Ce fantasme est devenu réalité lorsque

Dan Lenard m’a invité à participer au processus de développement de son nouveau projet, Centerfold. Il m’a été demandé

de créer des visuels uniques et novateurs, exécutés dans un même souci de perfection que son chef-d’œuvre de design.

Notre travail consiste à trouver le parfait équilibre et l’harmonie entre le yacht et l’océan, en les élevant tous deux conjointement.

Un projet de rêve pour tout visionnaire, ayant eu la chance d’en explorer les contours, les reflets et les ombres lors

de mon travail de création. »

Façonné dans un acier et un aluminium à haute résistance, les modes furtif entièrement électrique ou le zéro émission de

Centerfold sont parfaitement adaptés au rythme de croisière, avec une sensibilité environnementale revue à la hausse et

des réglementations strictes en matière d’émissions. Alternativement, le mode de propulsion conventionnel à grande vitesse

peut atteindre des vitesses de pointe d’environ 35 nœuds, entraîné par de puissants moteurs délivrant une puissance de

A blend of custom and semi-custom, this Amels 60 yacht has a wide range of amenities, starting

with 486 square meters of deck space including a sundeck, main deck, bridge deck aft, and swim

platform, as well as a beach club sauna, sundeck jacuzzi, a touch-and-go helipad, and space for a

nine-meter tender on the foredeck.

Project Snow boasts sophisticated interior design by Studio Indigo, a London-based studio that

specializes in architecture, interior design, and yachts. The desired goal was to bring the outside in,

ensuring a unified look throughout the yacht. Studio Indigo took some of Espen Øino’s external

design elements and added them into the fresh, new interior concept.

et conçue comme un espace privé, permettant de

se retirer tout en profitant de la vue sur l’océan et

de la brise marine depuis un balcon pliant. Sur le pont principal, la cabine attenante

peut profiter aux VIPs, aux enfants, être utilisée à des fins de bureau ou comme salle de

sport. Les quatre autres suites du pont inférieur, destinées aux invités, mesurent près de

18 mètres carrés chacune.

Project Snow a été vendu par Dennison Yachting et devrait être livré à ses nouveaux

propriétaires en octobre 2023.

Cata-Cup, qui se sera déroulée du 18 au 21 novembre

2021. Parmi les 132 marins embarqués sur les 66 catamarans

de sport F18, la compétition a fait rage dans le peloton

de tête.

It took nerves of steel and some pretty fancy maneuvering

to win the 13 th edition of the Saint-Barth Cata-Cup, which

set sail November 18-21, 2021. Of the 132 sailors aboard 66

F18 sport catamarans, there was some serious competition

in the upper echelons of the fleet.

Lors de la quatrième et dernière journée de compétition, le dimanche 21 novembre, les trois meilleures

équipes ne se trouvaient plus qu’à trois points l’une de l’autre. Une seule rencontre au programme ce jourlà

: la course déterminante de la semaine, allant de Saint-Jean à Public en passant par Toc Vers et Mancel.

Les choses se corsent rapidement pour les Belges Patrick Demesmaeker & Olivier Gagliani (Les Perles de St

Barth–Bativrd), qui siègent à la première place

suite aux cinq premières épreuves de la

semaine et évoluent cette fois avec deux autres

équipages sur leurs talons : Cruz Gonzalez Smith

& Mariano Heuser (SBDE) ainsi que Gurvan

Bontemps & Benjamin Amiot (Stickerman), luttant

avec vaillance jusqu’à la ligne d’arrivée d’une

course complexe.

Sur la plus haute marche du podium se hissent

finalement Cruz Gonzalez Smith et Mariano Heuser,

avec Gurvan Bontemps et Benjamin Amiot en

deuxième position, suivis de Patrick Demesmaeker

et Olivier Gagliani au troisième rang.

On the fourth and final day of racing, Sunday, November 21, the three

top teams were within three points of each other. There was only one

race scheduled that day, from St Jean to Public by way of Toc Vers and

Mancel, and it would be the determining race of the week. Things quickly

got tough for Belgians Patrick Demesmaeker & Olivier Gagliani (Les

Perles de St Barth-Bativrd), who were in first place after the first five races

of the week, but two other teams were hot on their heels, Cruz Gonzalez

Smith & Mariano Heuser (SBDE) and Gurvan Bontemps & Benjamin

Amiot (Stickerman), fighting valiantly right to the finish line of a complex

race.

The final podium saw Cruz Gonzalez Smith & Mariano Heuser on the top

step, with Gurvan Bontemps & Benjamin Amiot in second place, and

Patrick Demesmaeker & Olivier Gagliani in third position.

« Après avoir été sur le podium en 2017 et 2019 (deuxième

et troisième places), nous étions cette année clairement

résolus à obtenir la victoire. Nous y sommes parvenus et cela

clôture notre saison F18 de la meilleure des manières », note

Cruz Gonzalez Smith, ayant réalisé une performance stellaire

tout au long de 2021, avec un titre de vice-champion du monde,

un autre de champion national et une deuxième place aux championnats

américains.

Du 14 au 18 novembre 2022 se tiendra la 14 ème édition de cette régate très attendue et

disputée, organisée par l’Association des Multicoques de Saint Barth. Le genre d’événement qui

place Saint Barth sur la carte internationale de la voile de haut niveau !

“After being on the podium in 2017 and 2019 (second and third place), we were definitely focused on victory

this year. We succeeded and that closes our F18 season in the best possible way,” notes Cruz Gonzalez Smith,

who put in a stellar performance throughout 2021, with a world vice-champion title as well as a national

championship title and second place in the American championships.

November 14-18, 2022 marks the dates of the 14 th edition of this highly anticipated and contested regatta,

organized by the Saint Barth Multihulls Association The kind of event that puts Saint Barth on the

New Year's Eve Parade.

stream into the Port of Gustavia to ring

in the new year, there is also a small fleet

of sailboats preparing to sail around the

island in an informal race officially dubbed

The New Year’s Eve Parade.

Au matin du 31 décembre 2021, sept voiliers de diverses catégories ont hissé les voiles. Balayant la

victoire, le Gunboat 66 orange vif de Lloyd Thornburg, Phaedo, a fait le tour de l’île en 1 heure, 48 minutes

et 18 secondes. Sur ses talons, Symmetry, le yacht German Frers de 96 pieds d’Abbott Brown, a rejoint

le podium en 2 heures, 6 minutes et 29 secondes. Nouveau venu dans la course, Aurelius, une beauté

de 34 mètres construite aux Pays-Bas par le chantier naval Jacht Ontwikkelings, s’est classé troisième en

2 heures, 8 minutes et 28 secondes, avec pour skipper Harry Blazeby.

Le plus petit de la flotte : Gamelle, l’Olsen 30

d’Axel Jouany basé à Saint-Barthélemy, tandis que

le plus grand n’était autre qu’un Alloy Yacht de

174 pieds, Q, avec pour capitaine Colin Johnson.

Autre participation à l’échelle locale : Maëlia, de

Raphaël Magras, dont l’équipage était constitué

de membres de sa famille sur trois générations.

Ticonderoga, le classic yacht de 72 pieds par

Herreshoff, l’un des premiers bateaux à participer

à l’édition de 1995, aura lui aussi de nouveau

hissé les voiles cette année, avec à bord son

propriétaire Scott Frantz et sa famille.

On the morning of December 31, 2021, seven sailboats of various sizes

hoisted their sails. Sweeping to victory, Lloyd Thornburg’s jaunty orange

Gunboat 66, Phaedo, sped around the island in 1 hour 48 minutes and

18 seconds. Hot on its heels was Symmetry, Abbott Brown’s 96’ German

Frers yacht at 2 hours 6 minutes 29 seconds. A newcomer to the race,

Aurelius, a 110’ beauty built in The Netherlands by Jacht Ontwikkelings

shipyard, placed third at 2 hours, 8 minutes 28 seconds, with Harry

Blazeby as skipper.

The smallest in the fleet was Gamelle, Axel Jouany’s Saint Barth-based

Olsen 30, while the largest was the 174’ Alloy Yacht, Q , with captain

Colin Johnson. Another local entry was Raphael Magras’ Maelia, with

three generations of his family on the crew. Ticonderoga, the classic 72’

Herreshoff yacht, one of the original boats to take part back in 1995, sailed

again with owner Scott Frantz and his family.

don de plusieurs beaux médaillons aux vainqueurs. »


“We had a beautiful day to sail around the island,” says yacht broker and sailor Mark DelGiudice, who helps organize

the race. “Weather conditions were favorable, with NE wind direction 18 to 22 knots, and two- to three-meter seas

around Toiny point,” he adds, noting that “the staff of the Saint Barth Yacht Club did a great job with start and finish

times, and Ernest Brin director of the Port of Gustavia donated several beautiful medallions for the winners.”

and sailed to victory at the 2022 regatta with

captain Graham Newton once again at the helm

vying for the Hermès Bucket Trophy After a two-year

hiatus due to Covid restrictions, The St Barth

Bucket celebrated its belated 25 th anniversary

with 30 exceptional yachts adorning The Port Of

Gustavia, proving that yacht racing is yare.

voiles avec trois beautés de la Classe J : Hanuman (JK6), Ranger (J5) et Velsheda (JK7).

Ranger, fraîchement remis en état par le chantier naval Vitters, s’est imposé en grand

vainqueur sa catégorie à la suite de quatre courses (dont deux le jeudi, une le vendredi

et une le samedi) et ce, malgré une panne de treuil le jeudi.


With races scheduled for Thursday-Sunday, March 17-20, 2022, The Bucket

set sail on Thursday with the three beauties in the J Class: Hanuman (JK6),

Ranger (J5), and Velsheda (JK7). Ranger, fresh from a total refit at Vitters

shipyard, was the star winner in this class after four races (two on Thursday,

one each on Friday and Saturday), in spite of a winch fail on Thursday.


Le dimanche matin, ceux qui braquaient leurs jumelles sur la

Classe J auront sans doute été surpris de voir les navires s’arrêter

nets et rentrer au port, après un départ plein d’entrain sous des vents

soufflant à plus de 25 nœuds et dans des conditions périlleuses,

susceptibles de provoquer de la casse. Toutes les courses ayant été

rappelées, les 27 bateaux restants des courses “poursuite” n’auront

pas quitté la ligne de départ le dimanche, de sorte que les résultats

finaux ne furent établis que sur deux courses, celles du vendredi et

du samedi.

Rosehearty, un Perini Navi de 56 mètres, a remporté haut la main

les deux courses et les honneurs de la classe des Grandes Dames des

Mers. Paul Goodison, skipper, était satisfait de ses débuts dans

la Bucket : « Première Bucket, première fois à

Saint-Barth et première fois sur un Perini », a

déclaré Goodison. « Ça m’a vraiment ouvert les

yeux de faire quelque chose de différent de ce à

quoi je suis habitué. »

Abbot Brown, propriétaire de Symmetry, un sloop

Frers de 39 mètres, était de retour pour sa dixième

Those with their binoculars focused on the J Class on Sunday morning must

have been surprised to see the boats stop in their tracks and sail back into

port, after a snappy start, with winds gusting over 25 knots creating dangerous

breakage conditions. All of the races were called, the remaining 27 boats in

the pursuit classes did not get off the startling line on Sunday, so that final

results were based on two races, Friday and Saturday.

Rosehearty, a 56-meter Perini Navi, handily won both races and class honors

in Les Grandes Dames des Mers class. Paul Goodison, skipper, was pleased

with his debut in The Bucket: “First time at the Bucket, first time in St. Barth,

and first time on a Perini,” says Goodison. “It was a real eye opener to do

something different from what I’m used to.”

Abbot Brown, owner of Symmetry, a 39 metre Frers sloop, was back for his

10th Bucket, and proud to win the trophy for L’Esprit de Mer, a Corinthian

Spirit class that gives owners an option of sailing without spinnakers and

insuring a more relaxed approach to enjoying all that a superyacht regatta

has to offer.

Vainqueur général, Hetairos a également remporté le prix Best Starter pour l’exécution

des meilleurs départs. “Nous avons une équipe formidable qui s’est formée il y a longtemps,

et chaque jour où nous naviguons, nous gagnons en confiance et tentons d’aller un peu

plus loin”, aura déclaré Newton, ayant barré avec succès le yacht victorieux.


Overall winner, Hetairos also claimed the Best Starter award for executing the best starts.

“We have an awesome team that has been together for a long time, and every day that we

go sailing we grow in confidence and push a little harder,” says Newton, who successfully

helmed the winning yacht.


En remportant Les Élégantes des Mers, Aquarius

réitère sa victoire de 2019 dans cette classe. Freya,

le sloop Nautor’s Swan de 27,7 mètres a remporté

Les Petites Dames, une classe inédite pour les petits

bateaux de la gamme des 27 mètres. Le Kawil de

34 mètres est sorti vainqueur des Mademoiselles des

Mers. Le Wolter Huisman Memorial Award a lui

été décerné à Sonny III, en tant que yacht ayant

concouru dans l’esprit véritable de l’événement,

tandis que Vijonara a reçu le prix du propriétaire/

pilote pour le travail à la barre remarquable de son

propriétaire durant la course.

Parmis les sponsors de la Bucket, on compte les stewards Royal Huisman et Vitters

Shipyard, ainsi que Baltic Yachts, Doyle Sailmakers, Dykstra NA, Edmiston, North

une île à l’éternelle histoire d’amour avec la

mer. Les Voiles de St Barth Richard Mille est

une version moderne des régates historiques

établies par LouLou Magras dans les années

1970, un événement déjà ouvert aux bateaux

de toutes catégories. Aujourd’hui, l’accent est mis sur la grande catégorie Maxi,

qui insuffle à la compétition son caractère hautement compétitif. Grâce au

sponsor titre de la course, l’horloger de luxe Richard Mille, le vainqueur repart

immanquablement avec une superbe pièce d’horlogerie — en 2022, après deux

ans d’absence liée au Covid et à lors des célébrations de la 11 e édition des Voiles,

Vainqueur de cette montre et bien sûr des Voiles 2022,

Vesper, un yacht Judel Vrolijk 72 de 22 mètres, arrive

premier dans la division Maxi et remporte le trophée

Richard Mille Maxi Cup, avec à la barre le skipper

américain Jim Swartz, quintuple vainqueur des Voiles

de St Barth Richard Mille. « Quelle joie de revenir dans

la course à l’occasion de l'un de mes événements favoris »,

a déclaré Swartz, dont le yacht fut baptisé d’après le

personnage de Vesper Lynd, amour de James Bond dans

Casino Royale. « Tout le mérite revient aux participants

pour cette formidable semaine de course ».

La Caisse d’Epargne CEPAC, banque régionale, demeure

également l’un des sponsors principaux des Voiles et ce,

depuis ses premières courses. La CEPAC sponsorise

également le bateau local de Raphaël Magras, Maëlia,

dans sa relation de longue date avec la voile à Saint

Barthélemy.

Winner of the watch, and of course Les Voiles in 2022,

was Vesper, a 22-meter Judel Vrolijk 72 yacht, taking

Swartz, a five-time winner of Les Voiles de St Barth

Richard Mille, was at the helm. “It’s been a joy to be

back racing and this is one of my favorite events,” says

Swartz, whose yacht is named after the James Bond love

interest, Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale. “Full credit to

the competitors for a great week of racing.”

Caisse d’Epargne CEPAC, a regional bank, is another

main sponsor, supporting Les Voiles since its first races,

as well as Raphael Magra’s local boat, Maëlia, as part

of a long-lasting relationship with sailing in Saint

Barthélemy.

Aujourd’hui, Les Voiles de St Barth Richard Mille font

également partie du prestigieux Caribbean Maxi Challenge,

récemment lancé par l’International Maxi Association

(IMA) pour les Maxis de plus de 60 pieds. Benoît de

Froidmont, président de l’IMA, précise : « Notre association

s’efforce systématiquement d’apporter son soutien aux plus

grands événements sportifs et notamment dans la Caraïbe.

Les Voiles de St Barth Richard Mille est sans aucun doute

l’une des régates phares de cette partie du monde, capable

aussi d’attirer un grand nombre de Maxis. »

François Tolède, directeur général des Voiles, espère quant à

lui tenir le cap de la régate sur la voie de l’éco-responsabilité,

tout en continuant de porter l'une des meilleures courses

de la Caraïbe. Des plans s’esquissent déjà en vue de la 12 e

édition, qui se tiendra du 16 au 22 avril 2023.


Les Voiles de St Barth Richard Mille is now also part of
