vom Chronisten <strong>der</strong> Stadt<br />

Schon seit seiner Gründung durch die Römer hatte die Stadt<br />

Palma einen Hafen. In jener Zeit reichte das Stadtgebiet kaum<br />

über den Bereich hinaus, den heute <strong>der</strong> Stadteil Almudaina<br />

einnimmt. Eine tiefe Hafeneinfahrt umgab die Stadt an <strong>der</strong><br />

Ostseite, d.h. <strong>der</strong> Bereich <strong>der</strong> heutigen Avenida Antonio<br />

Maura, die Paseo del Borne und die Calle Unión waren vom<br />

Meer überflutet. Tatsächlich wurde im 19. Jahrhun<strong>der</strong>t ein<br />

römischer Anker genau vor dem Teatro Principal (Haupttheater)<br />

gefunden. Genau an dieser Stelle endete vermutlich das<br />

Flussbett <strong>von</strong> Riera, dort, wo heute die Promenade <strong>der</strong><br />

Rambla liegt. Diese Hafeneinfahrt diente in <strong>der</strong> römischen<br />

und <strong>der</strong> musulmanischen Zeit vermutlich als Kai. Vor kurzen<br />

wurde im Verlauf <strong>von</strong> Bauarbeiten an <strong>der</strong> Paseo del Borne, in<br />

<strong>der</strong> Höhe <strong>der</strong> Calle Constitución, ein Kai aus <strong>der</strong> Epoche des<br />

musulmanischen Reiches gefunden. In dieser historischen<br />

islamischen Epoche wurden mehrere Werften genau vor dem<br />

Palast des Emirs gebaut, dem heutigen Palast <strong>von</strong> Almudaina.<br />

Noch heute können wir in den Gärten <strong>von</strong> s’Hort del Rei<br />

den Bogen sehen, <strong>der</strong> den Zugang zu diesen Werften bot.<br />

Später wurden weitere Werften außerhalb des ummauerten<br />

musulmanischen Gebiets errichtet, auf dem Platz, <strong>der</strong> heute<br />

den Namen Atarazanas (historisch für Werft) trägt, neben dem<br />

Consulado del Mar. Ebenfalls in dieser Zeit wurde die Bucht<br />

<strong>von</strong> Porto Pi als natürlicher Schutz<strong>hafen</strong> für die Schiffe bei<br />

Unwetter genutzt.<br />

Im 13. Jahrhun<strong>der</strong>t, nach <strong>der</strong> Wie<strong>der</strong>einglie<strong>der</strong>ung des<br />

Königreichs <strong>von</strong> Mallorca in die Christenheit durch den<br />

König Jaime I, durchlief Palma einen neuen wirtschaftlichen<br />

Aufschwung und sofort wurde <strong>der</strong> Bau neuer Hafenanlagen<br />

erfor<strong>der</strong>lich. Bereits 1270 wurde ein künstlicher Kai vor dem<br />

Palast <strong>von</strong> Almudaina errichtet, <strong>der</strong> Keim des Kais, <strong>der</strong> mit<br />

<strong>der</strong> Zeit zum alten Kai <strong>von</strong> Palma wurde. Dieser neue Kai<br />

ergänzte den Hafen <strong>von</strong> Porto Pi, die Boote konnten also ihre<br />

Waren vor den Mauern <strong>der</strong> Stadt ausladen und über Nacht in<br />

Porto Pi vor Anker gehen. Zur Sicherheit für die Boote wurde<br />

die Bucht <strong>von</strong> Porto Pi mit Ketten gesperrt, <strong>der</strong>en Enden an<br />

den die Einfahrt zur Bucht flankierenden Verteidigungstürmen<br />

<strong>von</strong> Porto Pi und Paraires festgemacht wurden.<br />

Es gab noch einen weiteren Kai zum Abladen, am südlichen<br />

Ende <strong>von</strong> Palma, gegenüber <strong>der</strong> Festung Baluarte del Príncipe.<br />

In unmittelbarer Nähe zu diesem Kai befand sich eine weitere<br />

kleine Bucht, die ebenfalls einen natürlichen Hafen bildet und<br />

seit dem Mittelalter unter dem Namen Es Portitxol bekannt<br />

ist. Sowohl <strong>der</strong> Kai als auch <strong>der</strong> Hafen unterstanden den<br />

Rittern des Templerordens, <strong>der</strong> bekannterweise eine wichtige<br />

Rolle bei <strong>der</strong> Eroberung und <strong>der</strong> Aufteilung <strong>der</strong> Insel Mallorca<br />

spielte. Das Haupthaus des Ordens lag in unmittelbarer Nähe<br />

zur heutigen Festung Baluarte del Príncipe, ein Ort, <strong>der</strong> heute<br />

als es Castell del Temple (Templerfestung) bekannt ist; <strong>der</strong> Kai<br />

diente also dazu, <strong>der</strong> Flotte <strong>der</strong> Templer das Be- und Entladen<br />

ihrer Waren in <strong>der</strong> Nähe ihrer Festung zu ermöglichen.<br />

1319 übertrug König Sancho <strong>von</strong> Mallorca den geschworenen<br />

Verwaltern des Königreichs Mallorca mehrere Grundstücke<br />

<strong>von</strong> Porto Pi zum Bau <strong>von</strong> Werften, da die Werften <strong>der</strong> Stadt<br />

nicht mehr ausreichten. Alle Schiffe, die den Hafen <strong>von</strong> Palma<br />

anliefen und nicht zum Königreich gehörten, bezahlten eine<br />

Ankersteuer, „Ancoratge“. Dank dieser Steuer wissen wir<br />

heute, dass vor allem Schiffe des Königreichs <strong>von</strong> Aragon<br />

(insbeson<strong>der</strong>e aus Katalonien und Valencia), des Königreichs<br />

Kastilien, des Königreichs Frankreich und Schiffe aus<br />

italienischen Städten den Hafen <strong>von</strong> Palma als Stützpunkt<br />

zur Umverteilung und als Zwischenstation auf ihrem Weg zum<br />

Ziel<strong>hafen</strong> nutzten.<br />

Diese Gestaltung <strong>der</strong> Hafenanlagen <strong>von</strong> Palma blieb bis zum<br />

20. Jahrhun<strong>der</strong>t erhalten, mit Ausnahme des alten Kais, <strong>der</strong> im<br />

Verlauf des Mittelalters und <strong>der</strong> Mo<strong>der</strong>ne zunehmend erweitert<br />

wurde. Mit dem 20. Jahrhun<strong>der</strong>t und dem Aufkommen <strong>der</strong><br />

Industrialisierung und des Fremdenverkehrs verän<strong>der</strong>te <strong>der</strong><br />

Hafen <strong>von</strong> Palma sein Gesicht und wurde zu dem, was wir<br />

heute sehen. Zum alten Kai gesellte sich <strong>der</strong> neue Kai und<br />

die Kais für den Seehandel, um den Bedürfnissen <strong>der</strong> großen<br />

Frachtschiffe gerecht zu werden. Daneben wurde ausgehend<br />

<strong>von</strong> <strong>der</strong> Kaizunge <strong>von</strong> San Carlos ein großer Damm und ein<br />

Kai zum Be- und Entladen <strong>von</strong> Waren und für ausländische<br />

Militärschiffe, vor allem für die 6. Flotte <strong>der</strong> US-Navy, gebaut.<br />

Dazu kamen die Kais <strong>von</strong> Jonquet, das Hafenbecken <strong>von</strong><br />

San Magín, <strong>der</strong> Club Náutico de Palma, die Kaizunge <strong>von</strong><br />

Can Barbarà und <strong>der</strong> Club de Mar, die Häfen <strong>von</strong> Portitxol,<br />

Can Pastilla, Es Molinar und Cala Gamba… alles, um die<br />

zunehmende Anzahl <strong>von</strong> Freizeitbooten aufzunehmen. Zum<br />

Schluss kamen <strong>der</strong> Hafenbahnhof und <strong>der</strong> Kai <strong>von</strong> Paraires<br />

als Anlegestelle für den Personentransport hinzu.<br />
