Abstract
The goal of this research was to develop bioenergy teaching in the web by survey. The
research is part of the Northern WoodHeat- project, of which goal is to improve
bioenergy knowledge in Finland, Scotland and Iceland.
The aim was to find out what kind of learning material is wanted about bioenergy. In this
research differences between profession groups and nationalities were compared in
interest, experience and knowledge about bioenergy themes. Respondents technical
preparedness was also founded out and what kind of presentations they preferred.
Results are used as a help when bioenergy web studying site is planned.
Survey was carried out as a web survey. Link to survey and message was sent to
respondents by e-mail. The link was sent to students of North Karelia University of
Applied Sciences in Utra and to contacts in Scotland and Iceland. Quantitative research
was used as a research method. Answers were analyzed with SPSS statistics
programme.
Response rate in Finland was approximately 24%. Respondents proportion in Scotland
and Iceland was unfortunately low.
According to results, respondents had most professional experience of management of
young forests. It was also most interested bioenergy theme along with themes
connecting to harvesting of energy wood. The most wanted web site presentation were
printable pages, pictures and PowerPoint-presentations.
