3.3. Committee Work<br />
During Committee Work from November 12 th to 15 th , the<br />
delegates discussed their specific committee topics that had<br />
been drafted by the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Parliament</strong> and suggested<br />
amongst others by the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Parliament</strong> and the Council of<br />
Europe. Topics focussed for instance on how the EU can better<br />
listen to its citizens and increase its democratic legitimacy, what<br />
action the EU can take to ensure that sustainable adequate<br />
sanitary water is available around the world or how the EU<br />
should meet its growing energy needs whilst ensuring reduced carbon emissions. Each committee<br />
was moderated by an experienced chairperson. Expert hearings were organised on Tuesday<br />
afternoon with experts from numerous universities, NGOs and companies. After two and a half<br />
days, each committee had drafted a resolution on their topic.<br />
3.4. General Assembly (Dàil Èireann, Irish National <strong>Parliament</strong>)<br />
General Assembly (GA) was held in the Irish<br />
National <strong>Parliament</strong> from Friday, 16 th to<br />
Saturday 17 th of November. At the official<br />
opening of GA, the young delegates were<br />
addressed by the President of Ireland, Mary<br />
McAleese, who stated: “(…)Participating in<br />
the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Parliament</strong> gives you a<br />
flavour of what it is like to be a Member of<br />
<strong>Parliament</strong> having to reconcile various<br />
opinions. Working to achieve a majority.<br />
When to compromise. (...)".<br />
Following the procedures of the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Parliament</strong>, each committee proposed their resolution<br />
to the Assembly during the two days of GA. Attack and defence speeches were followed by lively<br />
and intense open debates and, ultimately, voting. Passed resolutions are presented to the Council<br />
of Europe, the <strong>European</strong> <strong>Parliament</strong>, the <strong>European</strong> Commission, national governments, the<br />
<strong>European</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> Forum and the media. Please find the resolution booklet as well as a few<br />

3.5. Cultural and Social Programme<br />
The official agenda was enriched by an additional varied cultural and social programme. On<br />
November 10 th , the Eurovillage took place, presenting traditional food and drink of each<br />
participating country in a market-place atmosphere. This event was hailed enthusiastically and<br />
helped the participants to get to know each other better and find out about each other’s cuisine<br />
and customs.<br />
