At the Irish Culture Evening on November 11 th , the participants
learned traditional Irish dances and attended a performance of
professional traditional Irish dance. Country Presentations on
November 13 th also contributed to the intercultural exchange by each
delegation presenting their country with a short song or dance. The
event also involved about 100 young people from Dublin who took
the opportunity to meet their European peers and celebrate Europe’s
diversity.
At the Euroconcert, held on November 15 th in the Christchurch
Cathedral Dublin, skilled participants of the session gave varied and
enjoyable performances. The concert was open to the public and
again attended by a number of young people from Dublin. Social
gatherings during the evenings and guided tours through the city provided plenty of opportunities
for the participants to get to know each other on a personal level, to become acquainted with Irish
and European cultures and to overcome possible cultural barriers amongst each other.
3.6. Special Events
On Monday, November 12 th , the International Session was
ceremoniously opened at Dublin Castle. The delegates, the
accompanying teachers and invited guests were welcomed by
the Irish Minister of State for European Affairs, Dick Roche T.D.,
one head organiser of the session in Dublin, Andrew Byrne, the
Honorary Chairman of EYP Ireland, Dr. Garett FitzGerald, the
executive director of the European Youth Parliament, Philipp
Scharff and the Session President, Miso Mudric.
3.7. Teachers Programme
The delegations were accompanied by a total of 30 teachers. At the session the teachers were
offered a special programme targeting their needs. Thus, the programme included several
workshops on how to teach European matters at school and how to introduce a European
dimension to parts of the curriculum. Furthermore, the teachers discussed possibilities of future
school partnerships.
4. Supporters and Partners
The 56 th International Session of the European Youth Parliament was carried out with the support
of the European Commission within the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme.
Additionally, the event was financially supported by the national government of Ireland and a
great number of supporters. The 56 th international Session of the European Youth Parliament in
Dublin would not have been realised without the support of these international, national,
regional and private supporters and partners. The contribution of the following institutions made
the Session a huge success:
Public Institutions: The European Commission within the framework of the Lifelong Learning
Programme, the Communicating Europe Initiative, the Dept. of Foreign Affairs, the Dept. of
