that four S-300PS and one<br />

BUK M-1 SAM systems should<br />

undergo repairs and overhaul<br />

every year up to 2017. As of September<br />

2012, Ukroboronservice<br />

had performed overhaul repairs<br />

on six S-300PS SAM systems under<br />

contracts with Ukraine’s<br />

Ministry of Defense, and repairs<br />

on two S-300PS and one BUK M-1<br />

SAM systems were to have been<br />

completed by year’s end.<br />

2012 saw a definite breakthrough<br />

in restoring fighting<br />

capacity of the Ukrainian Na-<br />

vy fleet. Ship repair programs<br />

had a combined budget of UAH<br />

172 million, and about two dozen<br />

ships and craft had been put<br />

under repairs last year. This<br />

allowed the Navy to set up the<br />

core combat fleet by the start of<br />

2013, according to the Ukrainian<br />

Navy commander, Vice-Admiral<br />

Yuri Ilyin.<br />
