4.3. Starting the engine<br />

WARNING<br />

Starting the engine in a closed place can be<br />

dangerous. Exhaust emissions contain carbon<br />

monoxide, a colourless and odourless<br />

gas that can lead to serious harm or even<br />

death when inhaled.<br />

Only start the engine outdoor, in the open air.<br />

As you turn the ignition switch to the ON position, the<br />

instruments and the warning lights will go through the<br />

self-diagnostic cycle; during this phase, make sure that<br />

all the warning lights on the dashboard come on. One of<br />

the following conditions must be verified, in order that<br />

the ignition switch system allows engine starting:<br />

– The gears are in neutral.<br />

– The gears are engaged, the clutch lever is pulled<br />

and the side stand is up.<br />

❏ Cold starting<br />

Rotate the CHOKE lever without turning the throttle<br />

twist grip and then press the start button.<br />
