The first edition of the Wall Art Fair will take place in the city of Lyon ; the same
city that had already seen the creation of the Docks Art Fair, and its subsequent
development in which it has become a major biennial cultural event.
Despite the strong desire to hold the DAF on a yearly basis, thanks to its evergrowing
success, it has finally made way for the WAF, as the Docks alternates
so well with the Biennial of Contemporary Art. There was no shortage of energy
for this new challenge of an unusual nature : a “fair-event-exhibition” all rolled
into one, with the rather crazy constraint of a having just a single wall per
exhibitor. The principal objective of the WAF is to favorably reduce the
participation costs of the exhibitors, so they do not constitute a barrier to the
discovery of new talents in contemporary art. However, the goal is also to break
the traditional static mould of exhibitions and create the energy that animates
artists, gallery owners, and collectors, which is even more palpable here in Lyon
Rhône-Alpes, a city which boasts second place in the market of French
Contemporary Art. At La Sucrière, a highly established ‘place’of contemporary
art, each of the walls dedicated for each project, (with some, and we thank the
artists and gallery owners concerned, having been made especially for the WAF),
will resonate in a particular way, in a explosive and surprising dialogue whose
works will be either a link or a counterpoint. Wall Art Fair is also No Wall,
a space in a space for large projects requiring no walls.
Lyon has today a new powerful event in contemporary art whose destiny
is to cross national boundaries, returning regularly to the city, and alternating
with the Docks Art Fair. We would sincerely like to thank all the gallery owners
who have believed in this project and whose enthusiasm and participation have
effectively supported the development of contemporary art in the region.
We would like to give even more special thanks to the CIC group as without
their support, the WAF would simply not exist.

C’est à Lyon que la première édition de Wall Art Fair voit le jour, à Lyon
qui a déjà vu DocksArtFair naître et grandir jusqu’à devenir un évènement
majeur de la rentrée culturelle tous les deux ans.
L’envie de rendre DAF annuel était forte devant le succès plus important
rencontré à chaque édition, pour finalement laisser la place à WAF, parce
que Docks cohabite vraiment bien avec la Biennale d’Art Contemporain.
L’énergie ne manquait pas pour un nouveau challenge au contexte improbable,
une foire-évènement- exposition aux contraintes folles d’un mur unique pour
chaque exposant. Ceci d’abord, faut-il le répéter afin de réduire
avantageusement les coûts de participation des exposants, pour qu’ils ne
soient pas un frein à la volonté de faire découvrir les nouveaux talents de l’art
contemporain, mais aussi pour casser le moule statique des salons et rendre
l’énergie qui anime artistes, galeristes, collectionneurs encore plus palpable ici
à Lyon, en Rhône-Alpes, deuxième place du marché de l’art contemporain
en France. Dans la Sucrière, haut lieu de l’art contemporain s’il en est, chacun
des murs investi par chaque projet, dont certains, et nous en remercions les
artistes et les galeristes, ont été réalisés spécialement pour WAF, va résonner
d’une manière particulière, dans un dialogue détonnant et étonnant dont les
œuvres seront le lien ou le contrepoint. Wall Art Fair c’est aussi No Wall,
espace dans l’espace pour des projets volumineux ne nécessitant pas de murs.
Lyon se voit ainsi dotée d’un nouvel évènement fort pour l’art contemporain
dont la destinée doit dépasser les frontières nationales pour y revenir
régulièrement en alternance avec Docks Art Fair. Nous remercions
chaleureusement tous les galeristes qui ont cru en ce projet avec
enthousiasme et qui par leur participation soutiennent efficacement la vie
de l’art contemporain en région. Nos remerciements plus particuliers
au Groupe CIC sans qui WAF n’existerait pas.

Loyal a été créée en 2005 à Stockholm et se situe aujourd’hui dans
le port de Malmö, en Suède. La galerie Loyal est née de la revue libre
éponyme, Loyal Magazine qui fut lancé à Londres
et à Stockholm en 2000. Depuis ses débuts, Loyal s’efforce d’attirer
de jeunes artistes internationaux en Scandinavie.
Loyal was established 2005 in Stockholm, Sweden and is now located
in the harbour of Malmö, Sweden. Loyal grew out of the free-wheeling,
eponymous art magazine, Loyal Magazine that was started in London
and Stockholm in 2000. Since its beginnings, Loyal has endeavoured to bring
great young international art to Scandinavia.

La particularité de la galerie tient à la personnalité de Jean Brolly.
Jean Brolly (né en 1941) est un amateur d’art contemporain qui a toujours
cherché à entretenir des relations très étroites avec les artistes qu’il estime
et qui lui ont accordé leur amitié en retour. Sa collection reflète l’histoire
de ses rencontres. Au moment de sa retraite, il décide d’ouvrir une galerie
afin de disposer d’un outil de diffusion tourné vers le public et dépasser
ainsi le cercle restreint des relations privées. La galerie a ouvert ses portes
en janvier 2002. Elle est située dans le quartier du Marais, non loin du Centre
Georges Pompidou et occupe un espace sous verrière de 150 m 2 .
Le programme artistique de la galerie repose sur 2 catégories d’artistes –
d’une part, les artistes avec lesquels Jean Brolly a des relations anciennes :
Bernard Aubertin, Alan Charlton, François Morellet, Pierre Savatier, David
Tremlett, Felice Varini, Michel Verjux – d’autre part des jeunes artistes
qui ont pour la plupart, fait leur première exposition personnelle
à la galerie : Adam Adach, Nicolas Chardon, Mathieu Cherkit, Tatjana Doll,
Rémy Hysbergue, Jan Kämmerling, Benjamin Swaim. Photographie, peinture,
sculpture vidéo, installation, toutes les formes artistiques se trouvent
représentées et depuis sa création, elle participe régulièrement
à des foires internationales à Paris et à l’étranger.
The gallery was created in November 2001 by Jean Brolly and his first
exhibition opened on january 2002 with Claude Rutault – a famous french
artist. The gallery is located in “Le Marais”, an ideal place, close
to Musée National d’Art Moderne, the Pompidou Museum, in Paris. The space
on the ground floor occupies 180 m 2 and 40 m 2 at the first floor.
Jean Brolly (born in 1941) is a contemporary art lover which always sought
to maintain the very close relations with the artists that he estimates
and which granted their friendship in return to him. His collection reflects
the history of its meetings. At the time of his retirement, he decides to open
a gallery in order to have a tool for diffusion turned towards the public
and to thus exceed the restricted circle of the private relations. The artistic
program of the gallery rests on 2 categories of artists - on the one hand,
the artists with whom Jean Brolly has old relations : Bernard Aubertin,
Alan Charlton, François Morellet, Sarkis, Pierre Savatier, David Tremlett,
Felice Varini, Michel Verjux - in addition young artists who have for
the majority makes their first personal exhibition to the gallery : Adam Adach,
Nicolas Chardon, Mathieu Cherkit, Tatjana Doll, Rémy Hysbergue, Jan
Kämmerling, Benjamin Swaim. Since the creation of the gallery, photographs,
painting, video, sculpture, installation, all the artistic forms are represented
- and takes part regularly in international fairs in Paris and abroad.

Depuis sa création en 1990, la galerie Patricia Dorfmann propose
un programme axé sur la création contemporaine internationale. Attachée
essentiellement à montrer le travail d'artistes émergents ou inédits
en France, représentatif des derniers états de la recherche dans le domaine
de l'art contemporain, elle développe parallèlement un travail d’éditions
et de publications. Sa politique d'ouverture engagée dès le départ vers
des projets transdisciplinaires élargit son champ d'intérêt et en fait
un terrain d'expositions mais aussi d'expérimentations et d'échanges
(Special Projects). Depuis 2008, la Galerie Patricia Dorfmann représente
en exclusivité l'œuvre de Michel Journiac et initie un cycle d’expositions
consacré à cette figure fondatrice et historique de l'art corporel (Body Art).
Since its creation in 1990, the Galerie Patricia Dorfmann offers a program
that focuses on contemporary international art. Attached mainly to show
the work of emerging and unpublished artists in France, representative
of the last states of research in contemporary art, she developed a parallel
work with editions and publications. Its openness involved from the beginning
to transdisciplinary projects expands its interest and makes a place
of exhibitions but also of exchange and experimentations (Special Projects).
Since 2008, the Galerie Patricia Dorfmann exclusively represents the estate
of Michel Journiac and initiates a series of exhibitions devoted to the history
and founding figure of the Body Art.

Dès la fin des années 80, la galerie Claire Gastaud présente des expositions
d’artistes historiques de l’art contemporain issus des mouvements
de la Figuration Narrative (Henri Cueco, Peter Klasen, Erro, Bernard
Rancillac), Support-surface (Claude Viallat), de la Figuration libre
(Robert Combas, Rémi Blanchard), de la photographie plasticienne
et du Land Art (Georges Rousse, Nils-Udo, Dennis Oppenheim). La galerie
Claire Gastaud s'est également attachée à soutenir et promouvoir des
artistes émergents comme Jean-Charles Eustache, Samuel Rousseau
(nommé au prix Marcel Duchamp 2011) ou Anne-Sophie Emard en organisant
des expositions, en menant une politique d'acquisitions et en se rapprochant
des institutions culturelles. Les choix sont guidés non par la fidélité
à une école ou une période mais plutôt par affinités esthétiques ce qui
explique la présence de courants très divers et l'introduction de graphistes
(comme le duo Antoine+Manuel), de photographes, de sculpteurs
(Roland Cognet) ou de plasticiens travaillant la vidéo et les arts numériques.

From the years 86, the gallery Claire Gastaud was the theater of numerous
personal or collective exhibitions. Some big figures were exhibited (Henri
Cueco, Peter Klasen, Erro, Bernard Rancillac, Claude Viallat, Robert Combas,
Rémi Blanchard, Georges Rousse, Nils-Udo, Dennis Oppenheim). But the line
of the gallery Gastaud does not limit to make known values sure of
international fame, she also attempts to support and to promote confirmed
artists but still little recognized as Anne-Sophie Emard, Jean-Charles
Eustache or Samuel Rousseau (artist nominated for the 2011Prix Marcel
Duchamp) by organizing exhibitions, by leading a politics of acquisitions
and by getting closer to cultural institutions. Choices were driven not by
the allegiance at a school or a period but rather by aesthetic affinities
what explains the presence of very different currents and the introduction
of sculptors (Roland Cognet), video artist or graphic designers
(Antoine+Manuel) within the group of the gallery.

Convaincu que nous sommes désormais entrés dans l’âge postphotographique
où le numérique a élargi à l’infini les possibilités
de manipulations et de représentation du monde, Xpo Gallery s’est donné
pour mission de commenter cette nouvelle ère de comparaison et
de références. C’est donc logiquement qu’Xpo Gallery, jeune galerie
prospective s’installe dans le quartier de la Gaité Lyrique à Paris,
un quartier cosmopolite et urbain en pleine mutation. La galerie soutient
et défend des artistes ultra exigeants, pluriels et internationaux, souvent nés
après la révolution numérique à la fin du siècle dernier. Elle donne
la primauté aux artistes qui s’interrogent sur la nature humaine devant
ces mutations profondes en organisant des expositions et en participant
à des foires internationales d’art contemporain. L’objectif de la galerie
est de construire une relation à long terme avec les artistes au fur
et à mesure que leur réflexions et maitrise se développe dans le nouveau
contexte d’un marché de l’art en pleine mutation, passé à son tour dans
le régime de la mondialisation. La galerie organise un programme
avec les artistes qu’elle représente et des commissaires invites pour
des expositions. Pour WAF 2012, la galerie présente trois artistes dont
les œuvres mettent en doute notre perception de la réalité.
Convinced that we are now in a post-photographic age in which digital
technology offers an infinite number of ways to manipulate and represent
the world we live in, Xpo Gallery mission is to try to comment on this new era
of comparison, overlays, references, hyper-precision where veracity and reality
gives way to the efficiency of the digital. It is thus only logical that Xpo
Gallery a young gallery should settle into the same vibrant, cosmopolitan
neighborhood as the renowned Gaîté Lyrique (Paris). The gallery supports
and defends hard worker and international artists, born at the end
of the last century, during the digital revolution. Xpo Gallery gives priority
to those artists who question human nature as it is faces deep underlying
changes, organizing exhibitions and participating to international
contemporary art fairs. The objective of the gallery is to build long-term
relationships with artists, working with them as they mature in their artistic
reflection and develop. For our 2012 WAF participation we have brought
together a selection of works from 3 artists that aim at casting doubt on
our perception of reality.

moderne et conceptuel, fait également partie du sous-conscient
de la galerie. Le savoir faire non seulement comme preuve de l'expertise
artistique mais comme état d'esprit, comme approche intégrante au travail
artistique tout autant qu'aux thèmes, sentiments et tendances de notre
société. Finalement, la galerie veut faciliter l'échange entre les artistes,
leurs idées, leurs cultures et leurs styles par le biais de la confrontation
et du dialogue.
The galerie laurent mueller is a newly founded gallery for emerging artists
in Paris. It is working together with young artists to promote their work
in France and abroad through a program around solo positions as well
as curated group shows of own and invited artists. The program focus around
the themes of connections, lines, continuity, progress and perspectives.
Craft is also an underlying current which, despite being unfashionable
in a post modern art world driven by concept, should still be the driving
force of the artists. Craft, not only as artistic expertise but a state of mind,
as holistic approach to one's work as well as to the viewpoints, trends and
feelings of our society. The further goal of the gallery is to enable an
exchange between artists, their ideas, their cultures and their styles through
confrontation and dialogue.

Olivier Houg Galerie has changed its name to Galerie Houg with the arrival
of Romain Houg as Artistic Co-Director. The objective of the newly-named
gallery is to exhibit even more up-and-coming artists of international origin.
New artists supported by the Galerie Houg include : Jorge Mayet (a Cuban
artist, shown for the first time in France at the Docks Art Fair 2011) and
Susanne Themlitz (a German-Portuguese artist) as well as Vincent Breed
(an artist living and working in Lyon). One of the priorities of the gallery
is to show artists from diverse backgrounds, who focus on cultural issues,
in a world of increasing globalization. For the first WAF, Mathias Schmied
has directed a series of specific artwork in line with the requirements
of this innovative art fair.

La vie professionnelle et personnelle de Georges Verney-Carron s’articule

Art/Entreprise. En 1984, Georges Verney-Carron fonde Art/Entreprise,
une structure originale qui a pour mission de réconcilier le monde
de l’entreprise, le monde des collectivités et celui des créateurs, que ceux-ci
soient artistes, architectes, designers, graphistes…
L’idée d’une galerie s’impose à lui très vite. Depuis vingt ans, Georges
Verney-carron invite dans sa galerie des artistes qui manifestent la volonté
de l’accompagner dans ses productions de scénographies urbaines
pour les maîtres d’ouvrages publics ou privés.
The professional and personal live of Georges Verney-Varron face each other,
driven by the passion of creation and fine arts. All this led him to one
essential project : Art/Entreprise. In 1984, Georges Verney-Carron founded Art/
Entreprise, an original structure which aim is to gather the world of business,
the world of local authorities and the wolrd of creators, as artists, architects,
designers or graphic designers… Very quickly, the idea of spinning off
a gallery came through. For more than twenty years, Georges Verney-Carron
invite in his gallery, artists who express the will to work with him in his
scenographic and urbanistic productions for public or private authorities.

naturelles et industrielles et la petite dernière arrivée à la galerie, Nathalie
Boutté, plasticienne venant du monde de l’édition, réalise ces œuvres au
support papier en prenant le temps pour chaque pièce, “Elles contiennent
toutes une partie de ma sensibilité et de mon histoire et participe à un
travail de mémoire” (Nathalie Boutté ©). À travers des médiums divers,
la galerie révèle une scène contemporaine en pleine effervescence.
The Lili--Ubel gallery introduces artists each having their own distinctive
universe. Present at Artfairs over the last few years (Art Shanghai, ArtExpo in
New York, Art Monaco, Paris and Brussels…), the Lili--‐Ubel gallery has made
its mark through its variety of options and its wish to put forward the work of
artists who have no hesitation in putting themselves in question or in pushing
back the frontiers of the artistic world. The gallery travels in harmony with the
Artfairs and its artists’projects, whilst all the while establishing itself on the
contemporary art scene. The Lili--Ubel gallery accompanies its new
discoveries and helps to bring them to the public eye. For the first edition
of the 2012 The Wall ArtFair, the gallery presents the work of five artists :
Caroline Lejeune, painter in GREY of the chaos of forests, comes back
to colour, Helmut Grill, into--everything artist and image maker, works in
the photographic medium and allows himself a deflection of the prime image
to suggest a new viewpoint, Caroline Corbeau, designer and sculptress who
proposes a new interpretation of the world of design, and Anne Claverie,
sculptress in natural and industrial materials, and the gallery’s youngest
arrival, Nathalie Boutté, visual artist initially from the world of publishing,
fashions her creations using paper, with time having no hold on each work,
“They each contain a part of my sensitivity and my history and contribute
to serve as a reminder” (Nathalie Boutté ©). Through assorted mediums

Phantom Projets, est une nouvelle proposition d'Ileana Rodriguez dans
le paysage de l’art contemporain. Projet à structure flexible. Son idée est
de proposer une galerie fantôme, une galerie itinérante, évoluant en fonction
du lieu d'exposition et des artistes. Son but est de créer, grâce à une
scénographie insolite, une osmose entre des œuvres et les idées qui
les traversent et un endroit particulier. Ces projets réuniront des artistes
internationaux appartenant à différentes sphères de la création
contemporaine. Pour cette occasion, Vanessa Fanuele (France) et Humberto
Poblete-Bustamante (Chile) présenteront le projet “Paradise Lost”.
Phantom Projets contemporary is Ileana Rodrigez’s latest intervention on
the contemporary art scene. A roaming endeavor, it attempts to be a ghostlike,
unmoored gallery - evolving according to its various locales and artists.
By way of such an unusual scenography, it’ll strive to set up some sort
of osmosis between ideas and the places where they become works.
Many contemporary artists from all venues have already joined into this
international project. At this occasion, Vanessa Fanuele and Humberto
Poblete-Bustamante will put on display their “Paradise Lost”project.

Découvrir, émouvoir, interroger, Isabelle Poli Galerie est un lieu de rendezvous
pour les amateurs et collectionneurs d’art contemporain sous toutes
ses formes : peinture, dessin, objet d’art. Crée en novembre 2011, la galerie
présente et soutient les créations de jeunes talents et artistes reconnus au
travers d’expositions individuelles d’œuvres originales. La ligne directrice
tend essentiellement vers la figuration libre, l’art urbain, l’hyperréalisme.
To discover, to move, to question, Isabelle Poli Galerie is a meeting place for
contemporary art lovers and collectors of various artistic forms : painting,
drawing, art object. Create in November, 2011, the gallery shows and supports
the creations of young talents and recognized artists through solo-shows
exhibitions of original works. The guideline tends essentially towards
figurative, street art and hyperrealism movements.
