By 2000 Peter was well
into his plans to extend
the nursery, with the
creation of a sunken
Roman garden
specifically for shade
plants, with a Medusa
water feature and
corinthian marble
columns supporting a
wooden trellis draped
with grape vines, and
the borders planted with
a variety of unusual
shade loving plants.
Red Barn is ‘. .highly
regarded in artistic
circles for the wealth of
paintings, ceramic, glass
and sculpture from some of
the best artists in both the
UK and Europe.’
Peter moved straight
onto his next project
and something which
is very close to his heart - the transformation
of adjacent 16C Foster’s
Barn into a contemporary Art
Gallery. The work was completed in
late 2004 and Red Barn opened in
June 2005 to rave reviews.
Peter’s aim for the gallery has
always been to bring new and established
artists and makers from the
contemporary art world to Cumbria
