It isused only for the electric starter.Blade ControlThe blade control is attached to the upper handle of the mower.Depress and squeeze it against the upper handle to operate theunit. Release it to stop engine and blade.WARNING: This blade control is a safety device.Never attempt to bypass its operations.Drive ControlsThe drive controls are located on top of the upper handle and areused to engage the drive. Squeeze the right, left, or both rightand left controls against the upper handle to engage the drive;release it/them to slow down or stop mower from propelling.Speed ControlThe speed control is located on the variable speed controlhousing on the upper handle. This control is used to select theforward speed of the mower. See Fig. 4-1 inset.Figure 4-1IMPORTANT: Move the speed control only when the engine isrunning. Changing the speed control setting with the engine offcan damage the mower.Cutting Height Adjustment LeverThe cutting height adjustment lever is located above the leftrear wheel. To adjust the cutting height, refer to the “Assembly &Set-Up” Section.Side Discharge ChuteYour mower is shipped as a mulcher. To discharge the grassclippings to the side instead, follow the instructions in the“Assembly & Set-Up” section to attach the side discharge chute.Recoil StarterWarning: Keep hands and feet away from thechute area on cutting deck. Refer to warning labelon the unit.The recoil starter is attached to the right upper handle. Standbehind the unit and pull the recoil starter rope to start the unit.Deck Wash (If Equipped)Your mower’s deck is equipped with a water port on its surfaceas part of its deck wash system. Use the deck wash to rinse grassclippings from the deck’s underside.13
