She went to theCommissionaires desk to report the incident; she left her name <strong>and</strong>number. A short time later she was transferred to an<strong>other</strong> location.Four months later, she received a phone call from <strong>Cmre</strong> RobertDjulus, who made the effort to track her down at her new building.The happy employee wrote, “I wanted to let you know that thiswas extremely appreciated <strong>and</strong> that Mr. Djulus’ kind <strong>and</strong> thoughtfulact should be commended.”<strong>Cmre</strong> Zita Brunet, Section 26, Agriculture Canada,OttawaKudos! Shining example goes beyond the call of dutyA very grateful employee who conducts training sessions wrotea very detailed, glowing reference for <strong>Cmre</strong> Zita Brunet, explainingthat she is “a pleasant, smiling, personable <strong>and</strong> helpfulcommissionaire”. When people come for training, Zita greets themwith a smile, makes sure they are aware of parking, <strong>and</strong> tells themwhere to hang their coats. Although everyone knows it’s not partof her job, Zita bought a coffee machine <strong>and</strong> always makes surethere’s a fresh pot on for breaks, (the client supplies the coffee,milk <strong>and</strong> sugar). “You cannot be in a bad mood with Zita there,”writes our client.Sgt. SharmaFor the past four years since the Friends of Library <strong>and</strong> ArchivesCanada (FLAC) moved to the Library <strong>and</strong> Archives Canadabuilding located at 161 Goldenrod Driveway (Tunney’s Pasture),three <strong>commissionaires</strong> have greatly, continuously <strong>and</strong>enthusiastically assisted the FLAC Group who are looking afterthe sorting <strong>and</strong> packing of donated books <strong>and</strong> music items for theannual FLAC Book Sale. Sgt Jacques Gaudreault has beenprofessional, most helpful <strong>and</strong> extremely accommodating inhelping the Friends, <strong>and</strong> has been capably assisted byCommissionaires Ram Sharma <strong>and</strong> Basem Eneim. Vigilance during a serious security breachWhile on duty, Cpl Hassan Hassan observed a pass-holderescorting three persons who did not have passes through part of asecure area of the airport. Once Hassan confronted the escort <strong>and</strong>the three persons without passes, he then escorted all of them outthe secure area of the airport <strong>and</strong> reported the matter. This incidentwas observed by the Ottawa Airport Authority <strong>and</strong> it acknowledgedthat Hassan followed the proper procedures. This type of vigilance<strong>and</strong> correct response successfully halted a serious breach ofsecurity.Cpl Raymond Mongeon, Section 49, Sir Charles TupperBuilding, OttawaKudos! Professional approach <strong>and</strong> assistanceCpl Raymond Mongeon recently came to the aid of a HealthCanada employee who had caught her arm in a filing cabinet. TheHealth, Safety <strong>and</strong> Security Officer for the Pest ManagementRegulatory Agency (PMRA) wrote us to commend Raymond forhis professionalism while responding to the incident <strong>and</strong> to expresshis appreciation. The officer wrote, “Thanks a lot for yourcontinued support <strong>and</strong> excellent services to the employees of the[Sir Charles] Tupper Building.”<strong>Cmre</strong> Michel Bertr<strong>and</strong>, Section 54, GatineauKudos! Trusted. Everyday. Everywhere.Small world… HQ employee Janice Voth was outside theSAAQ office in Gatineau trying to attach a new licence plate toher car when out of nowhere <strong>Cmre</strong> Michel Bertr<strong>and</strong> appeared <strong>and</strong>offered to help. She didn’t have the right kind of screwdriver tocomplete the task so Michel not only went <strong>and</strong> found one, but as atrue gentleman, he finished the task for her. When Michel (he wasin uniform, she wasn’t) first offered to assist, he had no idea theywere employees of the same company!<strong>Cmre</strong> William (Bill) Young, Section 126, LasalleAcademy, OttawaKudos! Customer-focused serviceOver the past three years, an ever-increasing number of tourgroups have visited the Canadian Ice Service, MeteorologicalService of Canada, Environment Canada. There have also beenmedia, distinguished visitors <strong>and</strong> academics. The Director ofCanadian Ice Service wrote us to commend all <strong>commissionaires</strong> atSection 126, saying, “Their high level of cooperation, politeness,<strong>and</strong> overall professionalism has been first rate. Special kudos toBill, who has been there throughout the most hectic times (fromBBC camera crews, to weekend groups from Japan).”Continued on page 1815
