BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ REPORT<br />

Saya merasa bangga dapat melaporkan bahwa tahun <strong>2011</strong><br />

merupakan tahun istimewa bagi <strong>Unilever</strong> <strong>Indonesia</strong>. Kami<br />

dihadapkan pada berbagai tantangan serius, namun cara<br />

kami mengatasinya dengan pencapaian hasil yang kuat pada<br />

akhir tahun merupakan bukti dari kekuatan Perseroan kami.<br />

Secara total, penjualan tumbuh 19,2% menjadi Rp23,5 triliun.<br />

Laba usaha mencapai Rp5,5 triliun, dengan marjin usaha<br />

23,2%. Arus kas bersih yang diperoleh dari aktivitas operasi<br />

sebesar Rp5,5 triliun pada <strong>2011</strong> meningkat 50,9%.<br />

Kami memasuki <strong>2011</strong> dengan sikap optimis namun tetap<br />

berhati-hati. Setelah mengalami pasar konsumen yang relatif<br />

melemah pada 2010, ada kekhawatiran bahwa tingkat inflasi<br />

yang dipacu oleh kenaikan harga komoditas dapat membawa<br />

dampak pelemahan pasar lebih lanjut, yang berpotensi<br />

berdampak buruk pada pencapaian hasil kami. Kekhawatiran<br />

tersebut ternyata tidak terjadi, bahkan sebaliknya kami<br />

melihat peningkatan yang mantap dalam keyakinan<br />

konsumen selama tahun berjalan, khususnya kebangkitan<br />

kelas menengah yang tumbuh secara cepat, didukung oleh<br />

kinerja makro ekonomi <strong>Indonesia</strong> yang makin kokoh.<br />

Dengan latar belakang tersebut, di tahun ketika kami harus<br />

menghadapi eskalasi harga dari dua jenis komoditas penting,<br />

yaitu minyak mentah dan minyak nabati, serta semakin ketat<br />

dan agresifnya tingkat persaingan, kami membukukan kinerja<br />

yang sangat memuaskan di seluruh dimensi usaha. Kami<br />

berhasil mencatat pertumbuhan volume dan mempertahankan<br />

marjin laba kotor di semua bisnis. Kami juga berhasil<br />

memperkuat posisi pasar kami, di mana seluruh divisi<br />

mencatat pertumbuhan yang kuat hingga dua digit seraya<br />

mempertahankan peningkatan pangsa pasar korporasi. Pada<br />

saat yang sama, kami terus meluncurkan inovasi unggulan di<br />

seluruh divisi Home & Personal Care, foods & Beverages.<br />

I am pleased to report that <strong>2011</strong> turned out to be a great year<br />

for <strong>Unilever</strong> <strong>Indonesia</strong>. We were faced with some serious<br />

challenges, but the way we pulled through to deliver strong<br />

results by the end of the year was testament to the innate<br />

strengths at the core of our Company.<br />

Overall, our sales grew 19.2% to reach Rp23.5 trillion.<br />

Operating income was Rp5.5 trillion, with an operating margin<br />

of 23.2%. Net cash flow from operating activities was Rp5.5<br />

trillion in <strong>2011</strong>, an increase of 50.9%.<br />

We entered <strong>2011</strong> with cautious optimism. Having experienced<br />

a relatively weak consumer market in 2010, there were fears<br />

that inflation triggered by rising commodity prices could<br />

have led to a further softening of the market, which could<br />

potentially have a severe impact on our results. This threat<br />

failed to materialise, however, instead we saw a steady<br />

improvement in consumer confidence over the course of the<br />

year and in particular a resurgence of <strong>Indonesia</strong>’s rapidly<br />

growing middle class, on the back of further strong macroeconomic<br />

performance by the country.<br />

Against this backdrop, in a year when we were confronted<br />

by escalating prices of two critical commodities, crude oil<br />

and vegetable oil, alongside intensifying and aggressive<br />

competition, we recorded a very satisfactory performance<br />

across all dimensions. We delivered volume growth and<br />

broadly maintained our gross margins in all our core<br />

businesses. We strengthened our market position, with all<br />

divisions posting strong double digit growth, and maintained<br />

the year-on-year improvement in our corporate market<br />

shares. At the same time, we continued to deliver a series<br />

of excellent innovations across our Home & Personal Care,<br />

foods & Beverages.<br />
