The New York Grand <strong>Opera</strong> Company had been announced for an ‘‘<strong>in</strong>def<strong>in</strong>ite’’ run, but failed f<strong>in</strong>ancially after<br />

this one performance. <strong>Performance</strong>s had been announced for the week with Tr ovatore on Tuesday to be<br />

followed by Tr aviata, Lohengr<strong>in</strong>, Cavalleria/Pagliacci, and Saturday mat<strong>in</strong>ée and even<strong>in</strong>g performances of<br />

Rigoletto and Aida. This was the second such failure <strong>in</strong> ten days.<br />
