Numeri numeri!
by Tania Barbati (St. Vincent de Paul School, Strathmore)
Here’s a compilation of some games that I have used when teaching and reviewing the
numbers.
Pari e dispari
Ask students to stand up. Tell them that when they hear an even number they
should rub their stomach, and when they hear an odd number they should pat their
head. (It is not important what the actions are, you can choose whatever you like,
eg. bobbing down for an odd number and standing up for an even number.)
Any child caught doing the wrong action at the wrong time is out.
Piu` alto, piu` basso
Two children come to the front of the class and stand in front of the whiteboard.
The teacher or another student writes a number, on the whiteboard above their
heads, for example between 10 and 50.
The two students take turns at guessing the number. The class says whether it is
higher, lower or correct. The child who guesses correctly has the next turn of
writing a number.
Undici
It is based on the numbers one to eleven, although any eleven numbers in a sequence
could be used.
Ask the students to stand up. Choose a student to start, who says one, two or three
numbers in sequence starting at number one. The next student follows in the same
way, carrying on from the last number saying either one, two or three numbers.
In order to stay in the game, you must not be the person who says number eleven.
The student who is forced to say eleven because the person before him/ her has
said ten is out, and must sit out. The number sequence restarts at number one and
the game continues until only one person remains, who is the winner.
Indovina che numero!
Students find a partner. One child in each pair thinks of a number and writes it with
his/ her finger on the other child’s back. The other child must say what s/he it is in
Italian. Students take turns at writing and guessing.
These activities reinforce mathematical knowledge as well as linguistic skills.
Ottimo
Guido Gobbino’s traditional Giandujotto workshop
If you happen to holiday or work in Torino, why not pay a visit to the traditional Giandujotto
workshop of Guido Gobbino, a consumate master chocolatier, and ask to taste his Cremino Fior di
Sale.
No you are not imagining things ! Gianduja with sea salt crystals and extra-virgin olive oil. At first
one delights in the melt-in the mouth texture of the chocolate and at the end one has the softness of the
extra virgin oil. It is recommended as an outstanding apéritif or accompanied by a glass of vermouth.
Its creation was honoured by a prtize from the London Academy of Chocolate.
Make a Scene : Theatre Arts Education
“Arlecchino e La Principessa” (Gli Innamorati)
Suitable for Primary (Grade 4) through to Secondary (VCE) students of Drama and / or Italian.
Workshops are also highly recommended for cultural days and celebrations.
This workshop is an excellent introduction to Commedia dell’Arte and is also an ideal way to
consolidate a unit on this style of theatre. The recommended workshop length is 90 minutes, however, session
times can be adapted to your timetable.
The workshop begins with a quick introductory DVD where we meet the stock characters, discuss the
style of theatre and place it in a relevant cultural and historical context. We are then quickly on our feet, and
students will actively explore this theatrical form through highly energised improvisations and exercises.
Students then learn the physicality for the various masks, discover each character’s distinctive voice and use
these skills in performance. Some of the characters we look at are : Arlecchino, Pantalone, I Zanni and Il
Capitano. The stock characters are referred to in Italian and participants have the opportunity to explore the
language through further improvisations.
Melbourne : Advanced Text
come pretenziosa e “veloce”.
come i lunghi viali alberati, i bei ristorianti e i negozi chic.
dimensione ridotta è solo relativa, visto che è più volte la grandezza della Gran Bretagna;
Il Centro – Co.As.It Resource Centre Newsletter Volume 18, Issue 2
tutta “pomp and circumstance.” Sul lato opposto c‟è City Square.
Paris End
guano dell‟isola saranno esauriti.
Teatri e Chinatown
Camminate lungo Little Bourke Street per alcune centinaia di metri; vi state addentrando
giacimenti d‟oro dello Stato.
Da Little Bourke Street svoltate a destra in Russell Street. Appena più avanti troverete la
Old Melbourne Gaol, l‟antica prigione cittadina.
regolarmente usato come sede espositiva.
possibili e immaginabili. Se camminate in direzione di Elizabeth, Queen or William Street
(quest‟ultima vi porterà a passare vicino a Old Mint) vi retroverete un‟altra volta in Bourke
in Australia seconda solo a Sydney.
Il Centro – Co.As.It Resource Centre Newsletter Volume 18, Issue 2
marittima appena sopra Spencer Street Bridge, all‟angolo fra Normanby Road e Phayer
