IL CASTELLO
DI DRENA
Costruito durante il XII secolo,
nel corso del tempo il castello
di Drena diventò un fondamentale
strumento di controllo della
via di collegamento fra Trento e
il lago di Garda.
Proprio per la sua posizione
strategica fi no alla fi ne del Trecento
fu al centro di continue
contese. Oggi i ruderi di Drena,
recentemente restaurati,
dominati dal mastio alto 25 metri,
si offrono al visitatore come
esemplare modello di fortezza
medievale che caratterizza la

Heute zeigt sich das teilweise
zerfallene, aber erst kürzlich
restaurierte Schloss mit dem
25 Meter hohen Turm dem Be-

Due to its strategic position it
was continuously fought over
until the end of the 14 th century.
Today the recently restored
ruins of Drena, dominated by
the 25 metre high buttress, offer
visitors an example of a medieval
fortress; an evocative decorative
sight in the Basso Sarca
Valley. It was owned by the da
Sejano family, who sold it in
valle del Basso Sarca.
Il castello appartenne alla famiglia
dei da Sejano che nel 1175
lo vendette ai d’Arco. Nel 1703
fu preso e dato alle fi amme dall’esercito
francese del duca di
Vendôme. Da allora quello che
era stato uno dei punti fortificati
più antichi e ragguardevoli del
Trentino fu abbandonato.
Collegato tramite segnalazioni
ottiche agli altri castelli della
valle, il Castelo di Drena, alto
su una profonda gola, è protetto
da una robusta cortina merlata
duecentesca che chiude i suoi
fabbricati entro un’ellisse murata.
Il mastio, in pietra bugnata,
torreggia sulle due cinte murarie:
pochissime le aperture, costituite
principalmente da feritoie
e da strette porte alte rispetto al
suolo. Quattro fi nestre ne segnano
la sommità fatta di massicci
merli ghibellini raggiungibili
attraverso scale lignee, cunicoli
e scalini. I recenti lavori di restauro
hanno ridato luce, storia

es mittels Signalen mit einer
Reihe von anderen Burgen
in der Gegend. Eine robuste
Schlossmauer mit Zinnen umgibt
die Wohnanlage, die vom
gut erhaltenen Turm aus Bossenquadern
überragt wird. Die
Restaurierung gab dem Schloss
wieder etwas von seiner Würde
zurück und es bildet heute einen
perfekten Rahmen für kulturelle
Veranstaltungen. Vom Turm
aus genießt der Besucher eine
herrliche Aussicht auf die Brenta
Dolomiten und das untere Sarcatal.
Zu Füßen des Schlosses
liegt das bizarr wirkende Gebiet
der „Marocche”

can be reached by wooden ladders,
tunnels and steps.
Recent restoration work has
brought back light, history and
emotions to the ancient manor,
which in the present has
