Saluto del
MOTO CLUB
BERGAMO
Siamo costretti a ricercare
impensierite dai nostri Gritti, Vergani e Masserini.
96 WELL-LIVED YEARS
registrato ufficialmente all’anagrafe del motociclismo
italiano, ma, in effetti, la sua apparizione
vanta un’anzianità superiore di qualche
anno: le basi del motociclismo bergamasco
furono gettate infatti nel 1919. L’Italia di
allora stava riprendendo i contatti con la vita,
dopo il terribile conflitto mondiale, ed il
motociclismo segnò la sua difficile ripresa su
The history of Bergamo Motorcycling Club is
a subject that has been widely dealt with but,
nonetheless, we believe it is interesting to
propose it again as plunging in such a glorious
past, as the Bergamo's one, is always fascinating.
Now, 61 years have gone through since
when the Bergamo Motorcycling Club has been
officially registered into the Italian Motorcycle
Register, but it was actually created few years
earlier: as a matter of fact the Bergamo motorcycling
did first appear on 1919. At that time
Italy was coming back to life after the terrible
world war. Motorcycling marked its hard start
back on difficult roads tormented by deep
holes, dust and stones. The years of the war
Fulvio Maffettini premia Carlo Ubbiali
GARELLI - BENELLI – BIANCHI – BORGO –
BUCHER.ZEDA – DELLA FERRERA – FONGRI –
FRERA – GILERA – MAFFEIS – STUCCHI.
Miro Maffeis, Isacco Mariani, Pierino Maggi,
Mario Acerboni…… . Anche la Federazione
10
testing ground, with its very hard work conditions,
were rich of turmoil.
At that time all motorcycles had Italian names:
GARELLI - BENELLI - BIANCHI - BORGO -
BUCHER.ZEDA - DELLA FERRERA - FONGRI -
FRERA - GILERA - MAFFEIS - STUCCHI.
There were the men and the competitions
that now we look at through the coat and the
respect of nostalgia: the North-South raid with
the brave Miro Maffeis, Isacco Mariani, Pierino
Maggi, Mario Acerboni…..
The Motorcycle Federation was very active too,
it was lead by a really great president: Engineer
2015
motociclistica era attivissima e la guidava un
presidente veramente grande, l’ing. Alberto
Bonacossa.
dell’iniziativa fu Arnaldo Ne’, padrino Paolo
Serafini.
Chiorda, Cecco Ruggeri, Grazioli, Crippa, Aldo
Dall’Ara ….. .
1925. In Italia , allora, circolavano motociclette
di ben 164 marche diverse, 85 italiane e 79
straniere, e già cominciava a farsi strada, nella
tendenza costruttiva, una “coscienza“ del
silenziamento. L’A.N.C.M.A., in omaggio al suo
programma di stimolare il progresso della motocicletta,
si preoccupava di annullare l’effetto
rumore.
Angelo Gnecchi. Il primo ciclo di vita si concluse
felicemente nel 1929 con, il primo titolo di
Campione d’Italia vinto da Ugo Rocca.
Alberto Bonacossa. In such a roaring climate
there is a group of Bergamo motorcycle fans
who creates what will become few years later
the most important motorcycling club of Italy:
the promoter was Arnaldo Nè, the godfather
was Paolo Serafini.
The Motorcycling Club Bergamo (year 1919)
moved its first steps with some tourist tours
and competitions such as the Bergamo-San
Vigilio, won by Sestini on Indian. It was than
immediately clear which was its way of living:
a way that will have been marking all the
events of this club: the technique cannot
progress without more serious tests, the more
difficult the obstacles, the more useful the
competitions. During that first period, which
was full of activities, there were a lot of
sportsmen that gave a strong propulsion to
the motorcycling sport: Luigi Chiorda, Ceccco
Ruggeri, Grazioli, Crippa, Aldo Dall'Ara…
But let's jump forward to the year 1925.
At that time Italian roads were run by motorcycles
of 164 different brands, 85 were Italian
and 79 were foreigner. And manufacturers
were starting to produce with a "conscience"
for exhaust silencers. The ANCMA, in accordance
with its programme of pushing the motorcycle
progress, did indeed care about the noise
effect. A contest for the most efficient silencer
was organised, there were no mentioning of
phon and decibel yet, and no phonometers existed
at the time, but the mentality was beforing
our time. The Moto Club Bergamo was full
sails, its headquarter was the Caffè Savoia, than
the members moved to the Duse and its president
was a great sport man: Angelo Gnecchi.
The first period of the Motorcycling Club life
happily ended in 1929, with the first title as
Italian Champion that goes to Ugo Rocca.
d’Inverno, Sanremo, Alba Torino, Pasubio e
Grotte di Postumia. Cominciarono così a nascere
Paganoni, Puppo, Fornani e Cesani.
Massimo Masserini, Marcello Tura, Rovaris,
Raccagni, Priamo, Puppo ….. .
lanciato, a 244,316 all’ora. Omobono
Later, with Luigi Piccinelli as president, the Club
acquires importance and recognition thanks
to its participation to many meetings: Rosa
in Winter, Sanremo, Alba Torino, Pasubio and
Grotte di Postumia. The first champions appear:
as Egidio Picozzi, the first from Bergamo to participate
to the International Six Days, Paganoni,
Puppo, Fornani e Cesani.
Towards the end of the 20s the headquarter
was moved to the Caffè Dondena, than to the
Moro and later to the Donizetti and the first
show for Cycle and motorcycle took place.
We are now at the 30s. At the helm of the
Club was geometra Buizza, while amongst its
members there were important historic pilots:
Massimo Masserini, Marcello Tura, Rovaris,
Raccagni, Priamo, Puppo…..
In the competition world the famous Pietro
Tarufi, with its Rondine 4 cylinders, broke the
500 world record, on the KL at 244,316 kilometres
per hour.
Omobono Tenni was the idol of the crowds. But
Bergamo people was not just looking: pilots
were asserting themselves and organizations
were becoming more and more important, that
was the time when the "Circuito delle Mura"
and the "Circuito Città di Bergamo" were crea-
Alla
guida, dopo Piccinelli, passarono il dottor Giangrande
e Bruno Stoppani. Con questi due presidenti
si chiude il ciclo anteguerra. Al termine del
secondo conflitto mondiale si ricomincia (anno
1945). Vecchi e nuovi soci accorrono all’appello.
è affidata a Franco Broletti. Nel 1946
arriva a dirigere il sodalizio Mino Baracchi, uomo
di grande temperamento, poche parole e molti
fatti.
ted. The Club was defining itself, its philosophy
is a true school: "we competed - Marcello Tura
remembers - we worked, we suffered and we
learned how to live"
Passion was dominating everything.
Its leaders were, after Piccinelli, Dr. Giangrande
and Bruno Stoppani, with these two Presidents
the pre-war period gets to its end.
Everything starts back after the end of Second
World War. Old and new members answer
to the call. The headquarter is at the Caffè
Donizetti, and the provisory President is Franco
Broletti. In 1946 Mino Baracchi, man of great
character, few words but a lot of action, becomes
president.
The "Circuito delle Mura" and the "Città di
Bergamo" start back. In 1948 the first branch is
created: Ponte Nossa, a branch deeply wanted
by Giacomo Manzoni, who gave so much to
Bergamasche
Gruppo Moto Club Bergamo 29 gennaio 1956
1955 - Sede Moto Club Bergamo in Via Brigata Lupi, 2 Bergamo - Punzonatura
Arrivano altre sezioni:
Lovere, Gandino e Albino, guidate rispettivamente
da Dino Angioletti, Geremia Anesa e
Franco Acerbis. Il 1948 fu anche l’anno della
prima Valli Bergamasche, nata dapprima a metà
ancora Luigi Gualdi, Piero Carissoni, Carlo Blumer,
Luciano Dall’Ara, Gianfranco Saini, Nino
Tagli, i Polacchi, i Tedeschi dai nomi impossibili
vivace“, ricorda Fulvio Maffettini.
Club Bergamo in termini moderni.
14
the Italian regularity. Today his son Felice goes
on with his father's goal; the person changed
but the passion and the faith still stay the
same. New sections arrive: Lovere, Gandino
and Albino, led respectively by Dino Angioletti,
Geremia Anesa and Franco Acerbis. 1948
was the year of the first Valli Bergamasche
(Bergamo Valleys), which originally started as a
middle way between a tour and a competition
and than became so famous to beat all other
competitions. Whoever says Valli Bergamasche
tells of a wonderful fairy tale with a lot of
fantastic characters: Fulvio Maffettini, with
his tracks where one had to suffer but could
meet poetry, Massimo Masserini, Marcello Tura,
Amelio Peri, the irreplaceable pillar-secretary
that went along with the Club's glorious way.
And again Luigi Gualdi, Carlo Blumer, Luciano
Dall'Ara, Gianfranco Saini, Nino Tagli, the Poles,
the Germans with their impossible but fascinating
names. The Valli was born for them too.
In 1950 Mino Baracchi left the Club and Carlo
Mazza took his place, "a lovely and lively manager
" says Fulvio Maffettini.
Than from 1953 to 1960 it's Giuseppe Reda's
turn to lead the Club. Reda was focused on
information and was the first to run the Club
in a modern way. It's worth reminding that he,
pushed by Camillo Sani, father of G.Franco and
Eugenio, published an interesting booklet titled
"How riders must ride" written by Professor
Severo Pasinetti: teacher and man of high
culture and humanity and father of the famous
Titta, actually editor at Montanelli's newspaper.
Titta Pasinetti wrote amusing, charming, very
good articles on motorcycling at the end of the
70s and, I believe, the most beautiful piece ever
written on the Valli Bergamasche.
But let's go back to the leaflet written by
2015
96ANNI
vissuti bene
scrivendo articoli divertenti, intriganti, bellissimi,
stampate 5000 copie.
Pasinetti the father, in cooperation with the
Road Police Captain A.Guarino, a booklet rich of
suggestions and information that was printed
in 5000 copies. A lot of events took place those
years: let's name the Exhibition of Cycle and
Motorcycle which took place at the Donizzetti
theatre: "the temple of the lyric transformed
into the temple of the motors." says Amelio
Peri, with a necessary, a little bit rhetorical,
emotion.
A lot of meetings, speed competitions on grass,
regularity competitions, gymkhanas.
A lot of valiant riders that promoted the name
of Bergamo and whose names stand out in
the national sport picture: Dario Bassi, Piero
Enio Longinotti - moto Laverda, seconda tappa Valli Bergamasche 1956
42 a Valli
Bergamasche
Basso, Piero Carissoni, Miro Riva, Dietrichs
Serafini, Carlo Ubbiali, Massimo Masserini, Nino
Tagli, Franco Dall’Ara …. .
Agli inizi
degli anni sessanta nasce un altro grande
miracolo, la Cavalcata delle Valli Orobiche,
Carissoni, Miro Riva, Dietrich Serafini, Carlo
Ubbiali, Massimo Masserini, Nino Tagli, Franco
Dall'Ara… In 1961 the Commendatore Carlo
Bonfanti enlightens motorcycling activities
with his guide. The Club is spreading and becoming
a phenomenon event on his social aspect
(the number of members in 1968 reaches the
ever highest number of 6563 units) thanks to
a convention set up with INA insurance.
During the early sixties a new big "miracle"
vero e personale rilievo.
Sotto la presidenza di Lucio Rota, prematuramente
scomparso, dal 1974 al 1981, il BERGA-
MO aprì definitivamente un capitolo già iniziato,
mettendo in doveroso risalto anche il trial
che, proprio da Lucio, ricevette un grande
impulso. (Il 24 e 25 giugno 1983 il Club ha
mandato in onda, a Castione della Presolana,
una gara internazionale denominata “Trofeo
Lucio Rota” valida quale 8 a prova del Campionato
Mondiale Trial).
Nel settore agonistico il BERGAMO ebbe nelle
sue fila grandi campioni come Carletto Ubbiali,
Giacomo Agostini, Arnaldo Farioli, e tutti i piloti
poi in quello organizzativo.
With Lucio Rota's presidency, from 1974 to
1981, Bergamo eventually opened a chapter
that had already been started: trial got a big
push forward thanks to Lucio. (On 24 and 25
June 1983 the Club put on the air an international
competition in Castione della Presolana
that was named "Trofeo Lucio Rota" valid as
the 8th test for the world trial championship.)
On its agonistic side, the Bergamo Club got in
his ranks big champions like Carletto Ubbiali,
Giacomo Agostini, Arnaldo Farioli and a lot of
such pilots that today form the world top class.
Tullio Masserini was named president of the
Bergamo Club on 1981. He run all his life under
the mark of motorcycles, whom he dedicated
himself since when he was fourteen, first on the
agonistic side with worldwide results, than on
the organisational side.
Reguzzi, Camillo Saini, Bepi Boschi, rimangono
Ribolla. Torments, honours and sacrifices were
made but the first supporters, "adventurous
people", were now gone…. What happened was
important and if somebody left us and we miss
them, Gino Reguzzi, Camillo Saini, Bepi Boschi,
we still keep their teaching, their models, their
names impressed in our minds as flags.
In this piece we have underlined the historical
material that might be less known. We have
looked for the unexpected anecdotes that
might be nonetheless important for the widening
passion of the Bergamo people.
Bergamo, June 1987
The Moto Club Bergamo has been on the stage
of sport motorcycling for 91 year both on local,
national and international fields.
It was founded on 1919 and with its 2000
members (450 of which are licensed pilots) it's
the European leading Motorcycling club for
its number of members and does not fear any
comparison for what regards its sport activities
and the results obtained.
Its headquarters are in via Carnovali n°84 in
Bergamo, and it counts 23 sections spread out
on all Bergamo province and it is proud to be
one of the most prestigious club thanks to its
24 speed titles conquered with Carlo Ubbiali
and Giacomo Agostini, and to the two world
titles of super bike got with Californian Fred
Merkel and thanks to more than 100 Italian
titles and tens of European titles and more than
one hundred gold medals won in the various
editions of the Six Days International of Enduro.
The road followed by the Club to reach such
superior goals was not easy. The organisation
of the first group of Bergamo motorcycle fan
17
“Indian”. Dopo la forzata parentesi di inattività
dovuta alla Grande Guerra, il cammino riprese
dates back to 1914 and five years later the Club
was founded. It was than lead by Paolo Serafini.
A spectacular speed competition, from downtown
up to the old town, was than organized
and Dino Sestini won it riding an "Indian".
After the compulsory stop due to the Big War,
the Club started its activity back again with
enthusiasm, the number of members increased
and we get the first champions from Bergamo:
Dall'Ara, Chiorda, Grazioli, Crippa. In 1923, the
group split from the Bergamo Cycle Motorcycle
Union with which it had been operating at that
time and fixed its headquarters at the Savoia
Café. Five years later Raccagni, a member of
the Motorcycling Club, won the first Italian
title and the following season, with Mr. Luigi
Piccinelli as president, the first all-roads competitions
took place thanks to the Bergamo
Motorcycling Club management.
Dall’Ara, Chiorda, Grazioli, Crippa.
Giorni conquistando ben quattro medaglie d’oro.
Nella velocità emersero invece, a partire dal
1937, Massimo Masserini, Rovaris, Bolognini,
Maladosa, Priamo, Piccoli …. . Proprio a partire
18
Egidio Picozzi became well known in the regularity,
he took part to eight sessions of the
Six Days, winning four gold medals. From
1937 Massimo Masserini, Rovaris, Bologninin,
Maladose, Priamo, Piccoli began to emerge in
the speed sector. Right that year with president
Buizza, the Club starts two important events:
the "Circuito delle Mura" and "il Circuito di
Bergamo" that have than been its flagship
from the organization point of view for long
time. Another stop was imposed by the Second
World War. And than everything started back.
In 1946 the number of its members increased.
Its headquarters - which had previously
been moved to the Donizzetti Cafè - was
moved to the Savoia Cafè, and all races and
activities, such as the cycle and motorcycle
exhibition, start back. The "Circuito delle Mura"
is a big success and in 1948, when Massimo
organizzativo. Ancora una pausa obbligata per la
Seconda Guerra Mondiale e poi si riprende. Nel
motociclismo mondiale. Nel 1951 sale alla ribalta
Carlo Ubbiali conquistando, sulla Mondial
125, il primo dei suoi nove titoli mondiali. Con
Mino Agostini, poi, il motociclismo orobico raggiunge
un record che sarà difficile infrangere:
quindici corone iridate. In campo regolaristico,
Masserini wins with his Gilera 500 four
cylinders on that spectacular track, a new era
for the worldwide motorcycling starts.
1951 is the year of Carlo Ubbiale who wins on
his MV125 the first of his nine world titles.
The Bergamo motor cycle reaches a new record
with Mino Agostini and his fifteen championship
titles. Meanwhile in the regularity categories
the Valli Bergamasche race becomes a
legend, and an international competition at
first, and a race of the European championship
circuit later. This race is now at its 41th edition
and with this year programme it becomes a
world competition as in 1994 and in 1999,
2002,2005.
In 1968 the Moto Club Bergamo organizes for
the first time the International Six Days at San
Pellegrino Terme. Than in 1981 all management
and members cooperate for bringing the 56th
edition of the Six Days at the isle of Elba to its
success. In 1986 this exceptional event goes
back to Val Brembana, in San Pellegrino and
Selvino again.
Meanwhile the organization of the "Cavalcata
delle Valli Orobiche" is improved and this big,
lucky, non-competitive event becomes the closing
of the seasonal activities and marks an
Nel 1968 il Moto Club Bergamo organizza per
la prima volta la Sei Giorni Internazionale a San
Pellegrino Terme, nel 1981 i suoi dirigenti e soci
collaborano alla riuscita della 56 a edizione della
Sei Giorni all’Isola d’Elba e nel 1986 l’eccezionale
avvenimento torna in Val Brembana, a San
Pellegrino Terme e Selvino.
piloti. Tra le manifestazioni di spicco, vecchie e
nuove, meritano poi una segnalazione: la Valli
Revival, l’Indoor di Cross Internazionale, I Trofei
Super Team e Super Club di Trial, il Minetti
Trophy-Enduro delle Orobie, il Trofeo Delle
Regioni-Memorial Giampaolo Marinoni di minicross,
il Notturno in Moto, tutti appuntamenti
classici ogni volta attesi con ansia dagli appassionati
anche se, per mancanza di permessi o
per troppi divieti, molte manifestazioni si
stanno perdendo.
Corridoni sempre a Bergamo.
USA
INCAS RALLY e del NEVADA RALLY.
Acerbis passa la mano, dopo aver spostato la
sede in via Ghislandi 24 a Bergamo in spaziosi
20
annual meeting recurring yearly since 1961,
reaching its record with 3538 riders in 1961.
Amongst all the important events we should
mention: the Valli Revival, the Indoor of
International Cross, the Trial Super Team and
Super Club trophies, the Minetti Trophy-Enduro
of the Orobie, the Trophy of the Regions -
Memorial to Giapaolo Marinoni for the minicross,
the "Notturno in Moto", all classical
meetings that are looked forward from all fans,
unfortunately some lack of permissions and too
much prohibitions made some of them disappear.
From 1984 to 1992 the Motorcycling Club
president is Luigi Ribolla, a well known manager
who promoted its modernization.
During those days the historical base of the
Motorcycling Club is moved from via Locatelli
to via Corridoni in Bergamo. Since the beginning
of 1993 the Motorcycling Club's helm
is held by the good hands of Franco Acerbis,
successful businessman who, with the help of
entrusted counsellors and a group of worth
technical advisors, has given new lymph and
nerve to the image and the activity of the
Club. These are the years of the Trial World
Championship in Foppolo in 1993 and of the
Enduro World Championship in Castione della
Presolana in 1994.
A lot of the Motorcycling Club members are
requested to cooperate for the Peru and USA
INCAS and NEVADA rallies.
Acerbis moves the Motorcycling Club headquarters
in via Ghislandi 24 in Bergamo in a
wide and spacious location with meeting and
secretary rooms and than leaves his place to
the bank-clerk Andrea Gatti that proceeds with
the job already began, especially from the organization
point of view that includes motor bike
events, modernization of the new offices and
using of the Motorcycling Club for national and
international training courses. During those
years the Motorcycling Club had the Enduro
world championship 1999 in Rovetta and the
world Trial championship in Foppolo in 2001.
The Motorcycling Club is now entering the new
millennium and Mr. Gatti stays as its president
for the second (2001-2004) and for the third
(2005-2008) time.
Gatti, together with all the board of administrators
and with the 23 sections of the
Motorcycling Club, has successfully organized
the Trial world championship - i.e. the 38th
Valli Bergamasche - in Clusone on may 18th-
19th, 2002 together with many other national
events with the aim of keeping high both the
name of the Motorcycling Club and its credibility,
which was so deeply and honourably
fought after by all his predecessors.
2003 and 2004 are years of calm and the Club
organizes national competitions of snow bikes
people from the Motorcycling Club went to
Fortaleza in 2003 to organize the 78th ISDE six
The Motorcycling Club headquarters are
momentarily moved to the "Palazzetto dello
Sport" waiting to get a more safe location in
via Gleno, at the "Casa dello Sport".
In 2005 and for a period of four years, the
Motorcycling Club with his new board of administrators
and his historic president Mr. Gatti,
are given new and important challenges from
the FMI, which did assign to the Club the organization
of three world championships over a
12 months period.
40th Valli Bergamasche - Italian competition
for the Enduro world championship
In 2005 many other competitions, such as
the 11th VALLI REVIVAL at Oltre il Colle and
23 different events, took place thanks to the
Board of Administrator and to the Club's 21
sections. In 2004 the Cavalcata was brought
back to Valbondione and in 2005, on the
23rd of October, in Schilpario where it was the
last competition for the Italian Championship
Junior and Major.
The Motorcycling Club tried to combine
everything so as to keep in mind that these
events take place only if able to give the right
degree of sport show to the public and be up
to the Motorcycling Club level.
2015
ottobre a Schilpario abbiamo mandato in onda
offrire agli appasionati uno spettacolo all’altezza
qualche grossa promessa è stata fatta e speriamo
che nel 2006 tutte le bandiere delle nostre
Sezioni possano sventolare sotto l’ala maestosa
Mondiale Enduro 40 a VALLI BERGAMASCHE a
ROVETTA, un Campionato Italiano regolarità
gruppo 5 ed una prova di Campionato Italiano
Motoslitte oltre a continuare nell’organizzazione
We would like to remind that Moto Club
Bergamo is the sum of its 21 sections which
do cover all motor specialities and that during
2005 it has well cooperated for the realization
of the Polini Italian Cup with its five race track
tests, an event for scooter and mini-motard
for the Polini SpA company.
During these last years the Motorcycling Club
has slightly changed, still looking for a main
office able to meet all the 1930 members'
and 350 licensees' expectations. Some big
promises have been made and hopefully in
2006 the flags of all the sections will be
waving below the Bergamo Motorcycling Club
wing in a new, superb location. In 2006 as
already told, our Club has been called by
ITALIAN MOTORCYCLING FEDERATION to organize
the test for the Enduro 40 a world championship
VALLI BERGAMASCHE in Rovetta, an
Italian championship regularity group 5 and
a Snowmobile test of Italian championship.
We also continue the organization of Polini
Italian Cup, that easily, increases our number of
inscriptions and allows other activities. Thanks
to the ACERBIS family we have a prestigious
headquarter in Bergamo, via Carnovali n. 84, for
at least 7 years without any charge or fee, that
certainly will make somebody green with envy.
The 2006 will also be reminded for the fact
that some councilors left the club while others
enrolled with pride and we also registered the
abandon of the MOTORANDO section, and for
other reasons, the TREVIZA section.
In 2007, as in 2003 in Brazil, we are called in
by the Chilean Federation to collaborate for
the organization of the 82 a SIX DAYS ENDURO
2007. A huge expedition of 100 members will
cheerfully but with dedication, leave their mark
to this great event. Such a big mark that the
a molti.
Giorni Enduro 2007.
Mexican federation, for the 85th SIX DAYS
2010, would like to have our cooperation,
which thanks to the ACERBIS ITALIA SPA involvement,
now-a-day, is synonym of warranty for
such a high level event. This year we register a
big event at Norelli:
la VALLI REVIVAL 14th TROFEO G. REGUZZI for
the 40th anniversary of the team foundation
(1967-2007) with departure and arrival at the
mythical FARA, in Città Alta (Bergamo).
We cannot manage to get permission for our
four specialties CAVALCATA and so we organize
road and trial rides and moreover, several social
Enduro races to keep our off-road fans linked.
Time goes by and 2008 brings us with over 30
events into the new Olympics quadrennium
2009 – 2012. At the beginning of February
2009, the Club Assembly elects the 20 new
livello. Nel 2007 dobbiamo registrare una grande
manifestazione della Norelli: la VALLI REVI-
VAL 14° TROFEO GINO REGUZZI nel 40° anniversario
di fondazione della Scuderia ( 1967 –
2007 ) con partenza ed arrivo alla mitica FARA
in Città Alta. Non riusciamo a trovare i permessi
per la nostra Cavalcata delle quattro specialità
e pertanto si organizzano cavalcate stradali
e cavalcate trial oltre a numerose sociali
enduro per tenere legati tutti i nostri appassionati
del fuoristrada. Il tempo passa ed il 2008 ci
porta con oltre 30 manifestazioni al nuovo
quadriennio olimpico 2009 – 2012. Ai primi di
febbraio 2009 l’Assemblea del Club elegge i
nuovi 20 Consiglieri che scelgono la continuità
di reggenza nel Presidente Andrea Gatti con
vice presidenti Raffaele Ghilardi e Giovani
a new aspect and concreteness to the Club guidelines;
Club which as always, remains leader
in the off-road and in the number of members
(1842). As a confirmation, INTERNATIONAL
MOTORCYCLING FEDERATION and ITALIAN
MOTORCYCLING FEDERATION for 2010 nominate
the club for the organization of 2 other
events, 41st VALLI BERGAMASCHE 3rd ENDURO
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP race in Lovere on
22nd and 23rd May 2010, where we will get
for the first time the World Feminine race and
the 7th World Trial race – 5th European Trial
Championship in Foppolo on 24th and 25th July
2010. In these occasions we will celebrate our
91 years from the foundation (1919-2010) and
show, even if not necessary, that the club is still
alive, esteemed and well-considered at Federal
2015
fatiche mondiali vale a dire 41 a VALLI BER-
GAMASCHE 3 a PROVA DI CAMPIONATO MON-
CAMPIONATO MONDIALE TRIAL – 5 a a PROVA
CAMPIONATO EUROPEO TRIAL a FOPPOLO il 24
– 25 luglio 2010.
Club è sempre vivo, stimato e ben considerato
MOTO CLUB BERGAMO.
Mancano solo cinque anni allo storico traguardo
level, as they rely on us as a warranty of safe
and serious attitude: we are and we will go on
being, with pride, the greatest Moto club in
Italy, we are the MOTO CLUB BERGAMO.
The Olympic four-year period 2013 was born
like the previous one, with the confirmation of
GATTI at presidency and PICCININI GIULIANO
and BIAGGI ROBERTO at vice-presidency, the
entry of 3 female advisors, that broke a male
monotony which lasted since 1919, the foundation
year of the Club.
Just five years to go for the historical target
of 100 years life and sportsmen from Bergamo
start to manage the big party for the great goal:
this will not be the party of BERGAMO TEAM
but also the party of the entire city, a district
and even a region from a motorcyclist point of
view.
una vita
Pochi giorni mancano ormai alla partenza della
42 a VALLI BERGAMASCHE.
Few days only, before the start of the
42th VALLI BERGAMASCHE
Motors are still off and this is the right time
to remember and to make some consideration
on the all-roads sports. Generations of people
from Bergamo has lived the Valli as an epic
deed, generations of public administrators have
asked for it and desired it as a guarantee for
their tourist development to be than celebrated
during their council meetings, in their parish,
on local newspapers. Generations of technicians
did monitor it to get useful indications to
develop the mountain road system. Generations
of riders has personally lived it, passing
their road books onto their sons and maybe
even to their nephews. Generations of presidents
and councillors and fans of the Bergamo
Motorcycling Club have organized, built, celebrated,
loved and defended it. The VALLI in
itself is not a game that renovates itself each
Sunday, is not only an episode for excelling in a
sport, is almost like a morganatic bride that
has given and will give, innocently, sorrows and
melancholies to a lot of wives and fiancées. At
10 o'clock on July the 4th 1948, on times of
hard economies and common poverty, with the
misery of the war years still right out of the
door, at the Caffè Savoia -that was at that time
1948 - Squadra Sertum Guido Benzoni, Gianni Damiani, Mario Ventura
42 a Valli
Bergamasche
mo, prendeva avvio la prima edizione della
VALLI, presidente Mino Baracchi, e si concludeva
dopo 257 chilometri in Ponte Nossa, dopo
traversati Iseo, Polaveno, Gardone, Valtrompia,
prima guerra mondiale. I Masserini, i Dall’Ara,
gli Oldrati,i Tura, i Maffettini, i Manzoni, i Rovaris,
i Somaschini, i Reguzzi, i Ferrario, tenevano
the main office of the Bergamo Motorcycling
Club, president was Mino Baracchi - the first
edition of the VALLI got its start. It had is finish
line 257 km after, in Ponte Nossa, having passed
through the Taleggio Valley and the Vivione
Pass. Few dozens of drivers on various motor
bikes, with military jackets and boots inherited
from war, with helmets of the most various
shapes. The Taleggio valley, the Vivione Pass,
gravelled, dusted , isolated places, really
witches' Sabbath. No one could think at that
time that the lively work, the will to re-conquest,
would have led to the road network, the
technological civilization of nowadays wonders.
In 1950 the VALLI did start from Bergamo and
finished in S.Pellegrino after two days of hard
duels, for the first time it was running onto the
mule track that goes from Cornalba to Selvino
and up to the one of Polaveno. For the first time
the province of Brescia was touched letting the
VALLI go through Iseo, Polaveno, Gardone, Valtrompia,
up onto the Croce Domini pass, memories
of the first world war. The Masserini, the
Dall'Ara, the Oldrati, the Tura, the Maffettini,
the Manzoni, the Rovaris, the Somaschini, the
Reguzzi, the Ferrario names were the first for
their experience and abilities but yet there were
the young and new riders, organizers, helpers
lead by... always the same Peri. From the roads
they moved to the first mountains, the first
tracks, the real off-road. In 1954 mayors, parish
priests, tourist office presidents, came one after
the other to ask to the Bergamo Motorcycling
Club to raise their villages to the dignity of
being part of the track which, at that time, had
33
giorni, frazionati in otto tappe, conclusione a
Selvino, toccando Ca’ S. Marco, Vilminore, Valbondione,
Gazzaniga, prime esplorazioni quindi
via mondiale. Le ultime edizioni del 1994-
1999-2002-2005-2006-2010 sono state le uniche
prove nella bergamasca in questi ultimi anni.
34
four sections: Cà S.Marco, Clusone, Lovere and
S.Pellegrino; the night section Nembro-Selvino,
run under the light of thousands of torchlights,
was an absolutely new attraction. The
1955 edition did multiply the efforts, the difficulty
of its track and the duration of the event
to three days, which were divided into eight
sections, with finish line in Selvino, passing
through Ca' S.Marco, Vilminore, Valbondione,
Gazzaniga, which were the first explorations on
grounds and fords, very near to the Orobic summits.
The 1956 was the year of the mounting up
to the Calvi hut, with finish line in Piazzatorre.
Bergamo becomes the breeding ground of regularity,
the Motorcycling Club did establish relations
with other European Clubs. Its President
Reda, who succeeded to Baracchi and Mazza,
broke the ice and in 1959 the Valli opened its
doors to the European riders, bringing them
up to the Forcolino delle Torcole of Piazzatorre,
and experimenting for the F.M.I. the special
tests of: acceleration and braking, fording, pure
acceleration, climbing of uneven tracks. Each
year the stubbornness of the people of Bergamo
led by Maffettini and by the unforgettable Levo
and Duccio Reggiani, Foresti and Saini, became
greater and greater as greater and greater
became the number of fans, the difficulties
and the efforts to cooperate with Gilera, Guzzi,
Aeromeze, Bianchi, Parilla, Morini that were
taking the places that were of Rumi, Mi.Val
and Devil. In 1963 bikers were mounting up to
the Poieto Mountain sending shivers down to
hundreds of spectators' spine when descending
from the ski slopes so well known by skiers.
In 1968, thanks to the experience and to the
tracks discovered and suffered, Bergamo was
showing to be worth of the "International Six
Days" of S.Pellegrino.
The last ten years history of the Valli is well
known by everybody and does not need any
presentation. In 1969 the Valli stopped to be a
test for the Italian single classifications championship
and became the more important test
for the Regularity European Championship with
classifications by classes: the memory of Levo
and Duccio Reggiani took place in this same
event with a Trophy entitled to them.
From the first 38 adventurous bikers of 1948,
riders become hundreds in 1976 and this made
the screening of inscriptions necessary, both
for organizational and public order reasons.
Spectators went from some tens to thousands.
The Valli turned from a "Caffè Savoy passion"
into a national and than a worldwide phenomenon.
Its last editions in 1994-1999-2002-
2005-2006-2010 were the only world competitions
run in Bergamo during those years.
If all this does comfort us, we also have to note
that on the other side, a lot of local authorities
migliaia e migliaia di adepti, giova all’economia
did make an U turn, the same ones that years
before were praying the Bergamo Moto Club to
let the Valli go through their isolated villages.
Prohibitions, regulations, buns that forbid bikers
to pass onto mule tracks and mountain paths;
district laws and illegal regulations that preclude
the passage on private properties, barriers
and barbed wires etc., everything in order to
discriminate against the practice of off-road
motorcycling, to banish a sport that is still free
and individual and that a while ago was good
for the tourism economy of our mountain
villages and that now is still good to the economy
of our district thanks to its thousands
adepts. Only a part of the Seriana and Scalve
Valleys is safe from this sudden change of
direction, quite often a true witch-hunting,
1971 - Lovere 23 a Valli Bergamasche
Daniele Frattini, Franco Dall'Ara, Gianni Perini, Colucci Pres. FMI
36
and remain a sort of reserve for the off-road
bikers. On these territories it was tried and
built a permanent track for the off-road and it
was right at the final project but the political
changes in the different villages did take away
paths to the tracks, the fake problem of noises
and other excuses succeeded in letting the
attention onto this matter down so much that
even in this areas the tolerance is giving way
to notices and fines. We might have become
"Indian" riders that will be confined in natural
reserves but we will not paint our face or wear
eagle -or some more modest bird- feathers.
We, the elders, that have seen and suffered the
41 editions of the VALLI, still have the satisfaction
to have enjoyed a full life of motorcycling
passion. It is now the youth's turn to open their
A noi
motociclistica.
previste. La riscossa cominciò in sordina nel
1971 con l’accoppiata Gritti Puch vincitori
assoluti e quindi dilagò negli anni successivi
1970 - Lovere parco chiuso 22 a Valli Bergamasche
way not only in competition but also in leading
the Club and its sections, in order to prepare
the planning for the next 38years.
As on the 4th of July 1948, we shout loud:
"HURRAY THE VALLI"
From the competition point of view up to the
1964 the Italian riders keep on making a good
impression but from the following year on and
till 1972 foreigner riders, with more appropriate
motorcycles with twin engines, were difficult to
beat with our four cylinders of that time, and
they won almost everything.
The revenge started quietly on 1971 with the
couple Gritti Puch, who won everything, and
than spread in following years with the arrival
of KTM, SWM and the short gold period of
GILERA. This is the time of the "red helmets"
that will reach its peak with the three consecutive
winning of the world trophy of the Six Days
in France, Germany and Italy.
The power of the Italians, but we should better
say of Bergamo riders, does put the Valli in a
difficult position since foreigner riders find it
difficult to win and therefore do not like to
participate and they come in lower numbers.
Their complaints do get the effect of not having
the Valli included in the European championship
in 1975, after that the previous year
only twenty riders did arrive to the finish line.
The organizations, even if reasonably upset,
did take this opportunity to create a different,
original edition inventing, with the example of
ski competitions, the parallel special test.
The most sad chapter of this history dates back
to 1979 when the Swedish Lennart Andersson
was killed in an accident, despite Franco Gualdi
prompt aid.
We are almost to nowadays. The Valli becomes
a meeting that takes place each two years to
leave room to other important events or to the
Club La Marca Trevigiana e nell’86 deve lasciar
spazio alla Sei Giorni di San Pellegrino-Selvino
con il trionfo dei nostri piloti.
Nel 1987 è nuovamente il Moto Club Sanremo
ad organizzare l’appuntamento italiano del torneo
continentale. La VALLI torna nel 1988 e la
35 a edizione trova casa sempre in Alta Valle
successo in cinque classi “ questi i titoli dei
giornali dell’88.
nell’88 e fu l’ultima edizione come prova
right because it was on the same dates as the
European competition was assigned to the
Sanremo Motorcycle Club, in 1985 is the La
organization and in 1986 the Valli has to leave
room to the Six Days in San Pellegrino-Selvino
were our pilots won.
In 1987 Sanremo Motorcycling Club is put in
The Valli is back on 1988 and the 35th edition
takes place in Alta Valle Seriana in Clusone-
when President of the Club was still Professor
newspapers. Stopping the Swedish excess of
power, our riders dominated winning five over
six classes, good weather did help the good
running of the competition. The 35th "old
and this was the last edition as a competition
for the European championship. As a matter
of fact the 36th edition in 1994, after six
years, will become a competition in the World
Championship with a rainy weather that put a
of the Bergamo Motorcycling Club led by its
President - and volcanic industrial manager -
Franco Acerbis.
The headquarter was in "La Rucola" in the
local sport centre, the rocky area of Plarina
Giamprimo Casari e Fulvio Maffettini. Con
loro in regia ogni ostacolo era superabile, l’ottimismo
e la competenza avevano sempre il
that gave great contribution to this event:
them every obstacle was conquerable, optimism
who, after his victory on Saturday, did struggle
on Sunday to get his third place that re-opens
the championship of the 250 4T..
Congratulations to Arnaldo Nicoli who, after
crying for having to withdraw on Saturday as
his gear betrayed him, confirmed to be a great
warrior able to subdue everybody on Sunday.
Very good Tianinen too, with his victory in 500
sounded like being in the hands of Katrinak.
This is the summary of the VALLI BERGAMASCHE,
37th edition, a competition up to the best traditions,
hard enough with its eighty kilometres
Abbiamo già consumato l’inizio del secondo
Fortemente sentita da tutto il Consiglio Direttivo
L’ENDURO A CLUSONE È STORIA PILOTI E
The early second millennium has already passed
by and now strongly comes back the VALLI
that both the Club and the FIM did want, seeing
the excellent organizations of 1994 and 1999:
we are now in Clusone on the 18th-19th May
2002.
Deeply wanted by all the members of the
Motorcycling Club managing council, although
doubts and troubles to get necessary permissions
are substantial, we hope to present to
sportsmen an edition worthy of its history and
all its generals.
38th VALLI 2002 in Clusone
THE ENDURO IN CLUSONE IS HISTORY,
RIDERS AND TEAM FROM WORLDWIDE: "
THE VALLI AS THE DAKAR: UNIQUE"
When a competition calls almost 250 riders
from all over the world, when thousands of
spectators rush to see it, when the spectacular
moments come one after the other at a
breathtaking rhythm, when also who is watching
it for the first time remains fascinated, than the
meaning is that the event is really special.
And this is the case of the VALLI BERGAMASCHE,
the queen of the Enduro competition, making
its come back last September in Clusone to
celebrate its 38th birthday and to bring
forward the fifth world appointment in 2002
and to show who are the new men from mars
for the speciality. It was a competition but also
a party: who wanted to know the situation of
modern enduro and know where it was going,
has got precise answers.
There will be more special tests (Saturday 14
and Sunday 13 that became only 12 due to the
41
ain), there will be the "trial" section, a test
on a very rough and bumpy track, with less
hard transfers, proper technicians in the right
places and everything run in areas of some
importance.
The organization of the Bergamo Motorcycling
Club deserves congratulations: from the speakers
that made this event more clear to the less
expert spectators, to the special test officials
that have draft very good tracks, to the timekeepers
that had to cope up with 29 receipts in
two days and to the Italian riders that did their
best to defeat the Scandinavian champions, still
too strong.
1st and 2nd day the victory goes to Salminen.
This is what wrote Danilo Sechi on the L' Eco
di Bergamo (Bergamo daily newspaper) on
Arnaldo Farioli, Ermanno Zampolli, Enrico Boschi
molto accidentato, trasferimenti meno impegnativi,
BERGAMASCHE - ENDURO MAXXIS FIM
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2005.
The ninth and last competition, in the same
location where this sport did write more than
a sacred text, saw Italian bikers win. Emotions
were given by Alessandro Belometti on KTM
and Simone Albergoni on Honda, who won
respectively the Saturday and Sunday competitions
for Class E1 in a week-end that worthily
closed the season world championship.
On Saturday Stefano Mo…. on Yamaha gave
more emotions as well in the C2 class, followed,
the day after, by Samuli Aro on KTM. In
the E3 Class the victory of the two days goes to
David Knight on his KTM, with the best general
time. Paolo Bernardi on Honda In the Junior
category wins on Saturday, and on Sunday is
the turn of Jacob Stapleton on TM, the very
assoluta. Nella coppa Junior vittoria sabato a
Paolo Bernardi su Honda e domenica a Jacob
Stapleton su Tm nono il giovanissimo bergamasco
Thomas Oldrati. Questa gara si chiama
VALLI BERGAMASCHE.
defilata e scoraggiasse molti appassionati pure
legittima.
In Valle c’erano almeno 15 mila persone.
young Thomas Oldrati from Bergamo arrives
ninth. In this competition Enduro is something
else to what is usually practiced elsewhere.
An hike for the VALLI too: the Bergamo
Motorcycling Club is rejoicing for the success
of the competitions in Schilpario. The mayor Mr.
Bendotti Gianmario says "Never seen so many
spectators, not even for ski competitions" there
were more than 15.000 people.
The VALLI BERGAMASCHE, in its fall version
with Schilpario in Alta Val di Scalve as its epicentre,
looked like the Motorcycling Club organization
was gambling. The risk that in middle
October weather conditions could not be good
was high. The doubts that the Val di Scalve
was too far away and could put spectators off
reaching the event was real. On the contrary it
was an huge success, a party for enduro and for
sport. In the valley there were at least 15.000
spectators. The gorgeous sun shining all week
end made everything unforgettable.
Schilpario did show its alpine scenarios in all its
beauty. The charm of competition breached the
hearts of bikers that invaded the Val di Scalve
to cheer their favourites on.
The fact that it was hold in October did let
the winning Italian pilots from the Six Days
in Slovakia be acclaimed. All of that gave a
lashing vitality to the complete event.
Succeeding in presenting the VALLI back again
was all but easy.
The difficulties that all off-road motorcycling
events do meet, and Bergamo Motorcycling
Club do have a lot of them, are increasing and
the pressing they make on the choices of the
managing board becomes harder and harder.
But the VALLI has to start its path back again,
not to risk and become a memory only, but to
43
poche settimane prima avevano fatto faville
give to Bergamo and worldwide sport people,
its magic and its sport regality.
How many changes from 1948. How much
did fashion, rules and bikes changed. But hard
track, efforts, desire to win, organization
commitment and spectators' passion remained
unchanged. There are things that do not have
time or dimensions. Even if 1999 was not so far
away we missed this event and Enduro bikers'
nostalgia was growing while obliged to live in
a mass of prohibition.
A lot of the competitions run in Italy meanwhile
were having success. Other Clubs were maybe
better than the Bergamo but no other competition
had or has the charm of the VALLI.
This 39th VALLI is for the Bergamo Motorcycling
lontano 1948.
A lot of honours but also a lot of efforts easily
undertaken by the men from all the many sections
of the Bergamo Motorcycling Club, when
the VALLI arrives they become an unique and
united body that cries:
HURRAY THE VALLI
BERGAMASCHE.
A. Rodari wrote from Lovere on 28th – 29th
June 1970, for the 22nd “Valli bergamasche”,
European Championship:
“ It was dreamed, contested, challenged, prepared,
but also waited for 12 months: the VALLI,
Enduro European Championship race is back.
It is back, shining of fame and gold of the
Trophy “Levo and Duccio Reggiani”: it is settled
on the lake Sebino banks, perched in
LOVERE, showing that from the beginning of
Val Camonica it is motorcycle land of Bergamo;
it gives a tribute to Giacomo Agostini, from
Lovere, and to all the fans, present at the
province’s borders, who never betrayed the
motorcycle. In the 25th anniversary of the end
of Word War II, the European Championship
Race solemnly declares the intention to join
European people, without political distinctions
and encourages technical ability, creativity,
courage and intelligence.
For profanes and lazy people, it may seem crazy
who, on a motorcycle, searches for ancient
paths, river’s fords, muddy swamps, gullies,
scree slopes, undergrowth, meadows and steps;
those who struggle with legs, who push with
arms the motorcycle out of the grip of the
mud, who scratch in the bush, who fall and rise
again to start again the race; it is difficult to
understand those who, drenched in sweat and
exhausted, deal with sun and storm, cold and
hot weather, rain and snow, for an applause or
a medal of silver guilt.
Those listless people will never understand how
beautiful it is to sweat and suffer, to win on
yourself , to gain freedom from fear, first within
yourself and then outside to nature, to man.
re gli europei, senza distinzioni politiche e ne
sprona la capacità tecnica, la inventiva, l’ardimento,
l’intelligenza.
dirupi, ghiaioni, praterie, sottoboschi,
prima all’interno di sé e poi all’esterno nei confronti
Cosa dovremmo aggiungere a queste parole?
Nulla!! Abbiamo cambiato un po’ sia sul discorso
della sicurezza sia sul discorso della spettacolarità,
ma lo spirito della manifestazione è
rimasto intatto, i valori sono sempre i medesimi
e la VALLI è e resta la mitica, l’unica, la insuperabile
manifestazione della REGOLARITÀ o
ENDURO.
trofeo LEVO E DUCCIO REGGIANI.
Sorveglieranno e controlleranno questi piloti
The VALLI is back after 22 years, with new
generations, with the same spirit/liveliness and
purpose, harder and more prestigious.”
What can we add more? Nothing!! We made
little changes for the safety and the show, but
the spirit of the event remains the same; values
are the same and the race VALLI remains the
mythical, the only insurmountable event of
REGULARITÀ or ENDURO.
On a beautiful 50 km track to go three times
a day, the world top 120 riders will compete
to conquer the podium but also the most
wanted trophy of enduro: the trophy of VALLI
BERGAMASCHE, that is an exact replica of
LEVO and DUCCIO REGGIANI trophy.
More than 300 people of MOTO CLUB
BERGAMO, passionate and competent controllers
of the event regularity, will monitor and
control these riders, assisted by a first class
medical staff in collaboration with hospitals
in the area and helped, when needed, by the
intervention of a medical helicopter. We are
sure that PROTEZIONE CIVILE, CARABINIERI,
CORPS OF FORESTRIES, STATE POLICE, LOCAL
and PROVINCIAL POLICE will collaborate with
the Club at the event.
Such a cooperation to make sure the race
takes place in complete safety and tranquillity,
to lead to the finish all participants and their
motorcycles, with the conviction that the BEST
rider always wins.
All these resources will raise the little town of
LOVERE, as world headquarter of ENDURO. The
French promoter said that Lovere is the IDEAL
site for VALLI BERGAMASCHE, not only for one
year but it can become A CLASSIC RACE, to be
repeated in the years but always to world level.
We are sure of it because, in addition to the
lake environment, tourism, historic and artistic
beauties, there is a ring circuit quite unique,
oltre a quella PROVINCIALE.
with appropriate difficulties and magnificent
natural beauties that will emphasize all values,
the most important and valid in the world.
Honour and glory to the towns of CERETE –
SONGAVAZZO – BOSSICO – COSTA VOLPINO
Industry, culture, trade, art, education, sport
passion are the characteristics of a city that
with Castro, Costa Volpino, Pianico, Sovere
make a single context, that deserves a better
future placement in Bergamo and Brescia provinces.
The MOTO CLUB BERGAMO by moving
VALLI BERGAMASCHE wanted to give recognition
and a contribution to such opinion.
These little towns will be invaded by a multitude
of Enduro fans, to be quantified at around
20.000 (twenty thousand). This forecast could
be reductive in case of good weather.
We should be ready to face up with this “invasion”
in the sites of the “PROVA SPECIALE” and
in Lovere, with adequate car parking, snack and
rest points.
convinti anche perché oltre all’ambiente lacustre,
Onore e gloria pertanto a CERETE – SONGAVAZ-
ZO – BOSSICO – COSTA VOLPINO – ROGNO e
naturalmente LOVERE. Industria, cultura, commercio,
e bresciana.
CLISTICA ITALIANA aspettano i risultati positivi
GAVAZZO – BOSSICO – COSTA VOLPINO –
ROGNO – LOVERE.
A strong impact for sport, tourism and visibility
thanks to press and TV will bring Lovere and all
the neighbourhood involved in the event VALLI
BERGAMASCHE all over Europe and all over the
world.
INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLING FEDERATION
and ITALIAN MOTORCYCLING FEDERATION wait
for the positive results of this experience in
order to find a solution of continuity for the
location of World Races. It is general opinion
this area could be ideal for an ENDURO WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIP.
In conclusion: the MOTO CLUB BERGAMO, with
its 91 years of history and successes, believe
to be in an enviable setting for the WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIP conclusion, that will remain
in the history of MODERN ENDURO. Thanks to
the sponsors and to the people who will help
us in this “adventure”, this experience will
a quel codice, ben radicato nel patrimonio
particolare da poter essere considerato unico
tra le catene infinite di DNA possibili. Ognuno
I will run the risk of sliding on Bergamo side of
enduro rhetoric and of siding with that code,
which is deep-routed in the genetic heritage
of those valleys inhabitants; it is so singular
that can be considered unique among the
endless possible DNA chains. Everyone has his
own point of view of course, but it stands to
reason behind enduro magnifying glass, and
beyond enduro, lies the real image, hard to
find elsewhere, of BERGAMO VALLEYS and of
the people who created it and delivered it to
history. And this is the first rhetorical slide, so
one might as well let oneself go till the end
of the Valley, till the shores of Iseo Lake that
hosted ACERBIS Grand Prix of Italy 2010 for a
week, that is to say the 41st edition of Bergamo
ON FRIDAY 21st OF MAY – PROLOGUE – ONE
ROCKET TO THE “TARGET” ANTOINE MEO
“That will be certainly an engaging race of
Bergamo Valleys, but not one of the most
selective in its history”, Giovanni Sala, the great
champion from Bergamo, five times champion
of the world, three times first absolute at Six
Days competition and ten times pole position at
Rally Dakar, summarizes the world competition
of Lovere, which today proposes the first stage
from 9 a.m. The race got going in the late afternoon
yesterday, through the prologue show in
Bersaglio of Costa Volpino. He became track
supervisor of all enduro world championship.
“Furthermore – the former star continues – we
could overdo it on one time control out of three,
the middle passage time control in the area of
Bossico, since the other two concern the general
quarter area of Lovere, at Marconi square,
and so the participants will have to face a huge
traffic, given the crowd of fans we expect. But
in Bossico there’s such a hard passage that the
track was modified for the girls of the female
championship. All four special tests had a high
2015
vole dose di traffico. A Bossico, invece, ci sarà
Volpino”. I primi piloti a partire saranno quelli
del gruppo E3, i primi nella generale, quindi
seguiranno tutti gli altri, due ogni minuto.
In totale, su 159 iscritti, diventati giovedì 158 a
quasi sette ore in sella.
level, up to the prestige of Bergamo Motor Club
competition. Two tests, the cross and the extreme,
were disputed in Bossico, the other two, the
cross and the line, in Costa Volpino”.
The first riders at start will be the ones of E3
group, the first riders in the general race, then
all others will follow, two every minute.
In all, 149 out of 159, who became 158 because
of an accident of the great specialist Salminen,
have made verifications. The planned laps are
three, each of them lasting 2 hours and 12
minutes, so the total time is almost seven hours
on the saddle. The prologue, attracting many
spectators, has shown some big favourites. The
French of Italian origin Antoine Meo recorded
the best time, on Husqvarna Ch, then two
other riders of E1, the Polish Blazusiak, and the
other transalpine Aubert. First in E2 Ahola (4th
absolute), first of E3 class is another French,
Nambotin (9th absolute). The best Italian is
Balletti (7th). Before the short competition, the
race director, Renzo D’Adda, decided to set a
test for the riders of the “line” special and so
this factor will be immediately clocked too,
and the total amount of clocked passages will
be 12.
SABATO 22 MAGGIO - 1° GIORNO
TRAVOLGENTE MEO, PODIO PER REDONDI
E MANZI
Nuovo capitolo, solito straordinario successo.
sempre eccezionale.
SATURDAY 22nd MAY – FIRST DAY
OVERWHELMING MEO, PODIUM FOR REDONDI
AND MANZI
New chapter, usual extraordinary success. As
it was clear in the late Friday afternoon, when
some thousand spectators (with entire families,
female representatives and fans at any age),
came to the prologue in Bersaglio di Costa
Volpino, the force of attraction of Bergamo
Valleys is still exceptional. Yesterday, on the
first stage of the 41st edition of the legendary
enduro competition, third test of world championship,
bikes and fans sprang out anywhere,
in all four special tests expected, a sparkling of
colours, sounds and support came out; it is difficult
to evaluate, but 10-15 thousand people
were esteemed to follow the event organised
by Bergamo Bike Club and ABC. The heart of
Lovere answered well, the sunny day made the
rest.
The cross special of Monti Lovere surprised
everyone, on a huge meadow, half race in the
area of Lovere and the other half in Bossico. The
eldest remembered Antoine Meo, the unquestioned
king of E1 and in the end the absolute
winner of Valleys 2010, the glorious time of
Magnolini and Monte Avaro.
The force of public’s support couldn’t put wings
to the Italian riders who, despite the evident
engagement, couldn’t conquer the podium but
in the group of young boys on 125cc bikes,
Antoine Meo, re incontrastato della E1 e vincitore assoluto della Valli 2010
Festeggiano soprattutto i francesi e nonostante
malessere (labirintite?). Nella stessa classe ha
così stravinto Antoine Meo (Husqvarna), già a
segno nel prologo, che ha nuovamente firmato
l’assoluta. Poi Remes, Guerrero Seistola e 5° il
friulano Micheluz.
Francesi anche i primi due della E3, Nambotin
(Gas Gas) e Guillaume, quest’ultimo risultato il
migliore nelle xtreme. Terzo Knight e 4° Simone
Albergoni, poi 5° Botturi, 8° Andrea Belotti, 9°
Mirko Gritti.
Oldrati, 6° Balletti. La junior ha visto svettare lo
spagnolo Santolino, 5° D’Ambrosio, 9° Massimo
francese Defrene, 8 la Sappino, ultima la seriana
Emanuela Balduzzi.
the Youth Cup. Only the Spanish Roman won,
before the two riders from Bergamo, Giacomo
Redondi and Jonathan Manzi. The French are
happy and despite they lost, before half race,
one of their stars, Jonny Aubert, who stopped
for a serious disease (labyrinthitis). Antoine
Meo (Husqvarna), winning in the prologue,
again signed the absolute race. Then Remes,
Guerrero Seistola and 5th Micheluz from Friuli.
The first two of E3 are French too, Nambotin
(Gas Gas) and Guillaume, who is the best in
extreme. Third is Knight, 4th Simone Albergoni,
the 5th is Botturi, 8th Andrea Belotti, 9th Mirko
In E2, the leader of general classification Ahola
(Honda Hm) has the best of Cervantes, 4th
Thomas Oldrati, 6th Balletti. Junior class saw
the Spanish Santolino win, 5th D’Ambrosio, 9th
the French Defrene, 8th Sappino, the last is
DOMENICA 23 MAGGIO - 2° GIORNO
AHOLA AL FOTOFINISH. OK REDONDI E
ALBERGONI
“Eccezionale! Inimitabile! Mitica! Straordinaria!”.
conclusasi ieri a Lovere e dintorni
provincia. Si è trattato della terza tappa del
torneo iridato, arrivava dopo Spagna e Portogallo,
ha fatto registrare il record di concorrenti
(159 iscritti, 149 partiti) e, probabilmente,
anche il record di spettatori (secondo stime
inevitabilmente approssimative 10-15 mila
sabato e 20 mila domenica).
Come aveva preannunciato l’ispettore di percorso
del campionato, il campionissimo Giovanni
Sala, non è stata micidiale ma certamente
molto dura.
Simone Albergoni (Ktm Factory-Fiamme Oro).
Redondi, allievo di Belometti, è anche risultato
SUNDAY 23rd MAY – 2nd DAY
AHOLA AT PHOTOFINISH. REDONDI AND
ALBERGONI OK
“Exceptional! Incomparable! Legendary!
Extraordinary!”. No, we didn’t end up, by mistake,
in the dictionary of adjectives, we just
report the enthusiastic opinions of Italian and
foreign works personnel, who followed the 41st
Bergamo Valleys race, that ended yesterday in
Lovere and surroundings. So the enduro world
championship comes back to our district, four
years after the race of Rovetta. It was the third
stage of the Italian tournament, came right
after Spain and Portugal, recorded the highest
number of participants (159 subscribed, 149
started) and, probably, the record of spectators
(according to approximate esteems 10-15
thousand on Saturday and 20 thousand on
Sunday).
As the track supervisor of the championship
forewarned, the big champion Giovanni Sala,
it was not lethal, but certainly very hard. It is
enough to know that the best ones, every day,
ran on clocked stages, on the whole (12 per
day) for more than one hour, for a race lasting
less than seven hours. And this time grew to
1 hour and 20 minutes for the less prepared
riders.
Compared to Saturday, the Italian-French
Antoine Meo (Husqvarna) in E1 and the Finn
Mika Ahola (Honda Hm) in E2 and the Spanish
Lorenzo Santolino (Ktm) in Junior class repeated
their victories. And compared to Saturday,
the success and the Youth Cup 125 grew, for
the colours of Bergamo, even though in a
smaller group, for Giacomo Redondi from Costa
Volpino (Ktm Farioli) and third place in the
Emanuela Balduzzi, stanchissima e staccatissima
ma al traguardo.
Menzione anche per il 16enne Matteo Bresolin,
8° nella Youth Cup 125. Non hanno invece concluso,
tra i nomi noti, Edmondson, Mattila,
Letellier e Passeri.
Tra gli altro bergamaschi 9° Mirko Gritti, 11°
Andrea Belotti, 12° Giovanni Gritti, tutti nella
come migliore italiano, mentre vincitore assoluto
Dopo cinque anni ritornano queste emozioni
MOTO CLUB BERGAMO
Il Presidente Andrea Gatti
hard-fought E3 class for Simone Albergoni from
Spirano (Ktm Factory – Fiamme Oro). Redondi,
Belometti’s pupil was 5th and the best Italian
in Junior class. Albergoni stepped up by one
place and gave in only in front of the English
Knight and the French Nambotin, (the best one
in the sum of the special extreme races). “It was
a hell of a job” Albergoni’s comment at finish
line, “The incredible support of the public gave
me a boost”.
The most exciting duel, just for seconds gap,
was in E2 class. Ahola prevailed, the Iberian
Cervantes got 2nd for only 17 thousandths,
stuff for runners! And Ahola won the absolute
too, and overtook Knight in this case for 2
thousandths! In E2 class, another fourth place
for Thomas Oldrati, for 2 seconds he stole the
podium from the French Renet.
Great is the challenge of the 11 girls at start
of female world championship first test. All
of them came to finish line (and they are called
‘weaker sex’), the victory of the favourite
French Puy over the former trial rider Spanish
Sanz, 8th place for Anna Sappino and last place
for Emanuela Balduzzi from Seriana Valley, very
tired and late, but cutting finish line.
Quote for 16 year-old Matteo Bresolin too,
8th place in Youth Cup 125. On the opposite,
the well-known names Edmondson, Mattila,
Letellier and Passeri didn’t end the race. Other
riders of Bergamo area, 9th Mirko Gritti, 11th
Andrea Belotti, 12th Giovanni Gritti, all in E3
class. In the classifications of the two days,
Albergoni got the trophy of Municipality of
Lovere, as the best Italian, while the absolute
winner of this Valleys race was Antoine Meo,
who obtained the Trophy of Bergamo Bike
Club in the memory of Giacomo Manzoni.
Mika Ahola, here at special extreme, defeated
Cervantes in E2 for 17 thousandths. After five
years these emotions erupt beyond any limit,
the manifestation is back with its stories and
dreams to tell, the great AHOLA who left us
too early and the amazing MEO who doesn’t
leave any way out for nobody. We are back to
the upland of Presolana, back to ROVETTA, on
the legendary tracks of the last editions: there’s
no lake, but the magical mule tracks and the
immense meadow of Bossico, the seat of a special
race that was really a show.
