PREFACEThe present publication is the most complete edition issued by the Department for Statistics. Thestatistical Yearbook of Georgia contains a large amount of the statistics, produced in Georgia, in a concentratedform. The information presented here reflects the current processes characterizing economicand social life of Georgia.The Yearbook has been prepared on the basis of the data obtained through the Department forStatistics’ current statistical surveys and censuses. Apart from this, additional statistics was provided byvarious administrative bodies of the country, such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Internal Affairs,Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources, the National Bank of Georgia, etc.The Yearbook characterizes the country population and its living standard, health care, education,science and art. It also gives information about national accounts, finance, prices, and investment activities.Finally, it describes the condition of the basic areas of the country economy – industry, agriculture,construction and transport.The data presented in the Yearbook were calculated by using the methodology, classifications, nomenclaturesand concepts recommended by the United Nations and its specialized institutions, StatisticalOffice of the European Communities – Eurostat, the OECD, etc. Due to this, it is possible to compareGeorgian and international indicators.The Yearbook specifies some past-year-indicators that were published earlier.Department of Statistics underMinistry of EconomicDevelopment of Georgia4
