Precautions and advice! The washing machine was designed and built incompliance with the applicable international safetyregulations. The following information is provided for yoursafety and should consequently be read carefully.General safety• This appliance has been designed for nonprofessional,household use and its functions mustnot be changed.• This washing machine should only be used byadults and in accordance with the inst<strong>ru</strong>ctionsprovided in this manual.• Never touch the washing machine when barefootor with wet or damp hands or feet.• Do not pull on the power supply cable to unplugthe appliance from the electricity socket. Pull theplug out yourself.• Do not open the detergent dispenser while theappliance is in operation.• Do not touch the drain water as it could reachvery high temperatures.• Never force the washing machine door: this coulddamage the safety lock mechanism designed toprevent any accidental openings.• In the event of a malfunction, do not under anycircumstances touch internal parts in order toattempt repairs.• Always keep children well away from theappliance while in operation.• The appliance door tends to get quite hot duringthe wash cycle.• Should it have to be moved, proceed with thehelp of two or three people and handle it with theutmost care. Never try to do this alone, becausethe appliance is very heavy.• Before loading your laundry into the washingmachine, make sure the d<strong>ru</strong>m is empty.Disposal• Disposing of the packaging material: observe localregulations, so the packaging can be re-used.• Disposal of old electrical appliancesThe European Directive 2002/96/EC on WasteElectrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), requiresthat old household electrical appliances must not bedisposed of in the normal unsorted municipal wastestream. Old appliances must be collected sepatelyin order to optimise the recovery and recycling ofthe materials they contain and reduce the impact onhuman health and the environment.The crossed out "wheeled bin" symbol on theproduct reminds you of your obligation, that whenyou dispose of the appliance it must be separatelycollected.Consumers should contact their local authority orretailer for information concerning the correctdisposal of their old appliance.• Disposing of an old washing machine:before scrapping your appliance, cut the powersupply cable and remove the appliance door.Saving energy and respecting theenvironmentEnvironmentally-friendly technologyIf you only see a little water through your appliancedoor, this is because thanks to the latest technology,your washing machine only needs less than half theamount of water to get the best results: an objectivereached to respect the environment.Saving on detergent, water,energy and time• To avoid wasting resources, the washing machineshould be used with a full load. A full load insteadof two half loads allows you to save up to 50% onenergy.• The pre-wash cycle is only necessary onextremely soiled garments. Avoiding it will save ondetergent, time, water and between 5 and 15%energy.• Treating stains with a stain remover or leavingthem to soak before washing will cut down theneed to wash them at high temperatures. Aprogramme at 60°C instead of 90°C or one at40°C instead of 60°C will save up to 50% onenergy.• Use the correct quantity of detergent dependingon the water hardness, how soiled the garmentsare and the amount of laundry you have, to avoidwastage and to protect the environment: despitebeing biodegradable, detergents do containingredients that alter the natural balance of theenvironment. In addition, avoid using fabricsoftener as much as possible.• If you use your washing machine from late in theafternoon until the early hours of the morning, youwill help reduce the electricity board's peak load.The Delay Timer option (see page 7) helps toorganise your wash cycles accordingly.• If your laundry has to be dried in a tumble dryer,select a high spin speed. Having the least waterpossible in your laundry will save you time andenergy in the drying process.GB9
