lato si realizzano i modelli “classici” della
produzione docciana, nascono i nuovi
esemplari che risentono delle tendenze
dell’Art Nouveau. Quando l’architetto
Gio Ponti assume la direzione artistica,
il suo programma di rinnovamento lascia
un segno indelebile e significativo.
L’espansione è intensa e continua tanto
che nel 1930 la superficie edificata
raggiunge 80.000 mq, con 40 forni e
2000 dipendenti. Dopo l’ultima guerra
mondiale si decide la costruzione di
una nuova Manifattura più ..“vicino alla
strada”.. edificata con criteri razionali e
moderni a Sesto Fiorentino, dove nel
1958 verrà traslocato da Doccia lo
storico stabilimento. E qualche anno
più tardi anche il Museo.
In 1883 Emanuele Repetti, full member
of the Accademia dei
Georgofili, wrote in his Dizionario Fisico
Storico della Toscana (The Historical
and Physical Dictionary of Tuscany) that
of the many places in Florence named
Villa Doccia, ‘the Villa Doccia in Sesto,
was the most famous for its magnificent
manufacture of Marquis Ginori’s
porcelain.’He continued: ‘Tuscany is
credited with being one of the first nations
to create and paint elegant prized
crockery, known as Etruscan Vases;
Tuscany gave the fine arts world its first
glazed earthenware pieces and the first
enamels to be applied to gold plating,
thanks to two Florentine goldsmiths and
sculptors (Luca della Robbia and Benvenuto
Cellini); and Tuscany saw the establishment
in its capital city of the first
porcelain factory to grow and prosper
in Italy, with an illustrious Florentine at
the helm.” Its long history and commitment
make it the first and only factory to
combine the beauty of fine art with the
beauty of everyday objects. The story
of the ‘white gold factory’ is that of a
time-honoured vision, the story of an
enterprise that has retained its standing
of absolute preeminence for nearly 275
years, always questing for artistic and
