WHERE IS TUSCANY
Tuscany is located in the centre of Italy, in
southern Europe, on the
Mediterranean sea.
Driving in Tuscany
Theoretically you require an International Drivers
licence to rent a car in Italy, The International
Driving Permit (IDP) is an official translation of
your driver's license and Italy, the law requires that you have an IDP. However, you
can actually acquire a rental car with a standard valid driving license.
In Italy we drive on the right hand side of the road and the steering wheel is fitted
on the left side of the car. Seat belts must be worn at all times and lights must be
on at all times when driving out of the towns and cities (means all local, highway,
motorway roads). The blood alcohol limit is 0.5%. Motorcyclists must wear crash
helmets on every kind of bike. Non-residents are subject to 'on the spot fines'. For
example: Speed 40km/h more than permitted is a fine of €1.400, lack of min.
security distance is a fine of €350.
MEDICAL CARE
Medical care, both Private and National, is offered by a wide selection of Clinics
and Hospitals.
In Tuscany, only if your accommodation is in the countryside as in farmhouses,
holiday complexes etc, you must be aware of the risks from insect and viper bites.
Medical insurance for non EU citizens is strongly advised. EU citizens can obtain a
refund of most medical costs by using the form E111 (available from Health or post
Offices in your country).
The local chemists (farmacia), is recognisable by a green cross sign. There is always
one open after hours in each area and its location is signed on every chemists'
window.
