EAGLECRAFT Continued

EAGLECRAFT Continued from page 17 Timersavers’ sanders are among the equipment Eaglecraft uses to manufacture its high-quality products. Ron is vice president of Eaglecraft. Randy’s wife, Rebecca Lewis, is secretary-treasurer, taking care of the finances. Carol Jackson is office manager. Randy said that she “handles pretty much any order that comes in.” The company is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and the National Small Business Association. In 2000, Randy became the top official of the company. Today, Eaglecraft has 12 employees. (Two of them have worked for the company more than 10 years, adding to the family-like nature of the company). Randy, himself, jumps into the work, also. “I try to do everything,” he said. “I fill in for everybody.” Employees cut parts, assemble the products and sand them. “Especially when we do miter doors that have detailed design, it takes a lot of people to do the finished sanding,” he said. The company’s equipment includes a Weeke CNC machine, James L. Taylor clamping machines, Stiles and Weinig moulders, Timesavers sanders and Powermatic saws. Lewis said the Weeke equipment has been especially helpful to his company. “It cuts out all your sheet goods, and you don’t have to spend any time with panel saws or table saws,” Randy stated. As for powering the HVAC equipment, Lewis said electricity is used for cooling equipment and diesel heaters are used in the winter. With this equipment and with their skill, Eaglecraft’s employees manufacture not only cabinet doors and architectural panels but also drawer fronts, valances and cabinet parts. The company makes original-style doors with high-end custom designs. Randy said he gets grinding knives from Alliance Tool in Massachusetts to Please turn to page 50 Custom cabinet doors and millwork are the company’s specialty focuses. 40 NOVEMBER 2018 n NATIONAL HARDWOOD MAGAZINE

FLY TIE & LUMBER Continued from page 18 An overhead view of the company’s log yard can be seen here. are the most recent installations and was completed in May of this year. It was Phillip Clark’s idea, our mill manager, to install a sorter. Our crew couldn’t pull lumber fast enough to keep up with production, so it was necessary. The volume of lumber we’re producing now makes it impossible to keep up with the sorting and stacking by hand without having to work weekends or late into the night.” Another benefit of having the 68-bin sorter is the ability for Fly Tie & Lumber to offer custom sorts. “Before we added the sorter we didn’t have enough space to separate everything for custom orders,” Ricky stated. “But now we can accommodate those types of orders. We actually just finished a custom sort of 9-inch No. 1, 2 and 3A for a flooring manufacturer. We couldn’t have done that previously.” In 2014, Fly Tie & Lumber added its second generation Please turn to page 50 Fly Tie & Lumber specializes in the high-volume production of 4/4, 5/4 and 6/4 Red and White Oak, Ash, Cypress, Poplar and other Hardwoods. The outfeed of the sorter is shown here. With the Piché sorter, Fly Tie & Lumber can now offer specialty sorts to customers. With the Piché packager, the company was able to increase production and decrease the manual handling of lumber. NOVEMBER 2018 n NATIONAL HARDWOOD MAGAZINE 41
