WCMA COMPONENT TRENDS WCMA ANNOUNCES 2016 FALL CONFERENCE AND PLANT TOUR EVENT As you read this, the WCMA will be ramping up for our 2016 Fall Conference and Plant Tour Event, September 18-20. I know as owners and managers of manufacturing facilities, it is sometimes hard to take the time for your own growth and professional development, but let me assure you, this event is a must attend! Held in South Bend, Indiana, the event gives attendees the opportunity to meet with colleagues, tour eight unique and successful plants, and hear from Tech Partners on what is new and exciting with their companies. We will be touring American Millwork and Riverside Tool in Elkhart, Cole Hardwood and Indiana Dimension, Inc. in Logansport, Kountry Wood Products and Quality Hardwood Sales in Nappanee, RH Yoder Woodworking, LLC in Shipshewana, and Woodenware USA in Etna Green. At each plant, attendees will see first-hand how companies are managing various aspects of wood processing, including optimization and scanning, materials handling, gluing, lean manufacturing, tooling, and machining. One of the most valuable parts of these tours is seeing different methods of manufacturing and observing what other companies are doing successfully. In addition, we will have two receptions and one sit down dinner which will provide attendees with plenty of opportunities to network, one of the biggest benefits of attending. John Bassett III John F. Kennedy said, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” The WCMA Education & Programs Committee agrees and has invited two dynamic speakers to address the group. Keynote Speaker, John Bassett, III, will speak at our Sunday night dinner, September 18. John is well known in the industry, working with furniture for over 55 years. In John’s new book, “Making It In America,” Bassett tells you the secrets that have made Vaughn-Bassett Furniture so successful doing what everyone said couldn’t be done. John constructs a 12-point plan to achieve successful leadership in any business. Each attendee will receive a free copy of the book. On Monday, September 19, Chris Stevens, adjunct professor at Notre Dame, will discuss his experiences with the group. Chris was one of the original four team members to develop and launch the Keurig Premium Coffee System in 1998, now the #1 coffee brewer in North America. Chris developed the Keurig brand, sales, distribution and marketing Chris Stevens strategies for the company, and has more than 20 years of experience in consumer goods sales and marketing, as well as general management from consumer companies such as Procter & Gamble and Anheuser-Busch. Non-members are encouraged to attend to see what the WCMA is all about. Any company that qualifies for membership may attend the event at a higher registration rate. If you decide to become a member within 60 days of the tours, the WCMA will refund the difference in registration cost and will discount your 2017 Annual Dues by 15 percent. We are proud of our new efforts and want to share our progress with potential members. We are sure that after participating in these excellent networking opportunities you will be excited to join. If you have not yet registered for the 2016 Fall Conference and Plant Tour Event, please visit our website at www.- wcma.com or call the office at 651-332-6332 or wcma@- wcma.com. South Bend is a great city and the fall is an excellent time to visit and we encourage you to spend an extra day or two to visit the area. We look forward to seeing you in Indiana! BY AMY K.
