The color brings depth

The color brings depth and a spark of limitless possibilities by enveloping power and prestige in an air of mystery. PPG Uses Color and Technology to Make the World More Beautiful PPG’s color fan deck tool created in a harmony layout is used for selecting primary and complimentary colors. Pittsburgh, PA–Are you afraid of the dark? PPG would tell you not to be and your color expression shouldn’t be afraid either. Think about the questions you ask yourself anytime you make a purchase. Do you want bold? Tame and subdued? Color helps us express our thoughts, emotions, and personalities. Color is what sets your house apart from all the rest on the block, your car in the driveway, the front door as you enter your home and ultimately your living space as you entertain family and friends. Color helps us take what we want – and make it our own. Move over gray, the newest color of the year is another classic neutral, PPG Paints Black Flame. A statement-making black, infused with an undertone of the deepest indigo, evokes the privacy, hope and modernism that many consumers crave today. It’s a fantastic blend of black and indigo, two classic hues. Black creates the silence we crave in an information-heavy world, while the indigo offers possibility and a deep hopefulness. The blend of two colors makes it incredibly versatile – use it on a statement wall, with a matte finish on a ceiling, with high gloss on a naturally lit staircase, on cabinets, and interior and exterior doors. “At PPG, we focus on global as well as local trends to make sure we’re providing the right color for every customer. Our organization has a global research team, known as color stylists, who study design trends, consumer preferences, and regional infl uences to determine new and continuing colors each year. This research is performed across many markets, including but not limited to residential and commercial architecture, automotive, industrial applications,” stated Dee Schlotter, Senior Marketing Manager for PPG’s Voice of Color Architectural Brand Channel. The color was unanimously selected by PPG’s more than 20 color stylists from around the world. These experts study consumer insights, building material trends, décor trends and more to select a color forecast that resonates and is refl ective of current consumer attitudes. “We’re already seeing retailers reinventing the classic black hue in the form of building materials such as wood fl ooring, black tile, cabinets and window frames, as well as matte black appliances and décor items,” Schlotter continued. “Black is often referred to as the absence of color, but it also signifi es a rebirth. It has the unique ability to take away weakness in a space and allow for regeneration to make it even stronger. It provides a necessary “void”, creating silence and space in a very cluttered, chaotic world.” In collaboration with the PPG Channel Marketing, PPG Machine Applied Coatings team has adopted the color research to further develop prefi nished coatings for building materials to improve color durability over longer periods of time. Chemists and engineers evaluate and enhance new product technologies, including the advancement of new resins, pigments, and colorants. Focusing on understanding the way extreme weather conditions such as extended UV-exposure, salt, heat, wind, and corrosion affect durability and long-term color integrity, this team works to ensure PPG paints can withstand even the worst outdoor conditions. Harnessing the knowledge obtained by the lab, PPG’s fi eld technical experts then make the color work at the customer level. “A color match isn’t complete until we can run the product successfully on our customer’s line,” said David Jeffers, national segment manager for PPG Machine Applied Coatings. “You can get a product and color to perform one way in the lab and a different way in the fi eld. It’s our job to make sure our customers get the same color performance every time they use our products.” As prefi nished siding and trim become more and more popular in all-weather climates, PPG positions themselves to be the front runner in color theory, color performance, coatings technology and ultimately consumer confi dence.
