Boise Cascade is one of

Boise Cascade is one of the largest producers of engineered wood products and plywood in North America. Boise Cascade Estimating Software Offers Streamlined Productivity and Greater Order Accuracy BOISE, ID–Boise Cascade Company, headquartered here, recently demonstrated specialized software tools developed to help builders, dealers and distributors work smarter, improve productivity and reduce costly errors. These software tools include: • BC FloorValue – This software helps designers identify and address floor performance issues early in the design process. An integral part of Boise Cascade’s BC Framer® design software, BC FloorValue evaluates an entire floor plan for areas of system deflection, suggests options to correct detected issues and provides a cost comparison for required upgrades. The tool allows users to evaluate alternative framing options, different products or oncenter spacing, as well as verify sheathing thickness, to achieve the best performance for the best value. BC FloorValue also utilizes a colorful, visual heat map to indicate areas of floor system deflection, a first in the industry. It analyzes the entire floor as a single system, taking into account how joist, sheathing and support stiffness, as well as the sheathing span between joists, impact overall system performance. BC FloorValue also detects the potential for unwanted floor vibrations — identifying the vibration characteristics of the entire floor system and worst-performing joist or beam, ranking the system on an easy-to-understand, three-tier rating scale. If analysis determines the floor has a minimum rating, designers can review options to boost performance, often for little or no additional cost. “We developed BC FloorValue to ensure every floor has the right level of performance for its intended use while also balancing the overall cost of the floor system,” said Tim Debelius, division marketing director, wood products, for Boise Cascade. “When floor system deflection issues are discovered, it’s often in post-construction. The ability to identify potential problem areas early in the design phase helps avoid callbacks, costly repairs and damage to a builder’s reputation.” • BC Connect – This is a web-based platform of integrated tools that lets dealers and distributors manage their engineered wood product (EWP) workflow. It gives customers a central resource to manage projects, coordinate drawing services, import and manage material lists, create quotes, optimize job pack creation based on inventory and store other project files conveniently using the Internet. Improved quoting, job pack bundle management and project sharing are some of the newest upgrades to BC Connect. Quoting is now more flexible as a result of the addition of multiple price tiers, which allows users to create unique pricing schemes and Continued on page 43 2.1E Versa-Lam® LVL relaunch Boise Cascade Company recently relaunched its 2.1E Versa-Lam LVL beams and headers with increased Modulus of Elasticity (MOE). The announcement signals Boise Cascade will shift to a common approach for assigning MOE grades, simplifying the process for designing wood structures.
