Students’ strategic knowledge about information problem solving: An<br />
explorative study<br />
As we live in an information era it is important to pay attention to students’ ability to<br />
solve information problems in education. This explorative study aimed at visualising the<br />
strategic knowledge students have regarding the process of information problem solving. A<br />
model for information problem solving served as a starting point. Before and after a treatment<br />
in which students were trained to use information problem solving skills, four open university<br />
students received a problem solving task and were interviewed in order to measure their<br />
strategic knowledge. Analyses based on the model showed that there were noticeable changes<br />
in knowledge on identifying the problem, searching and finding information, processing<br />
information and regulating the information problem solving process.
