In 19<strong>60</strong>, in New York, an exhibition<br />
takes place in M<strong>art</strong>ha Jackson’s<br />
gallery, New Media – New Forms:<br />
In Painting and Sculpture.<br />
The title New Media is not new;<br />
it has be<strong>en</strong> used before in 1920 at<br />
the time of the Dada movem<strong>en</strong>t.<br />
The exhibition at M<strong>art</strong>ha Jackson’s is<br />
split into two p<strong>art</strong>s. P<strong>art</strong> I in June 19<strong>60</strong><br />
is for Dada <strong>art</strong>ists such as Arp and<br />
Schwitters, followed in October by<br />
P<strong>art</strong> II with the work of the ‘Neo-<br />
Dadaists’ Jasper Johns, Jim Dine,<br />
Robert Rausch<strong>en</strong>berg and Claes<br />
Old<strong>en</strong>burg. In p<strong>art</strong>icular it is the<br />
assemblages and installations by<br />
these <strong>art</strong>ists that attract att<strong>en</strong>tion.<br />
