About the art
9 internationally renowned artists will
be invited to enhance the global nature
of the Nieuw West. Some of these
artists are already involved in other
projects in Amsterdam, such as Amsterdam
R.U.A (brasil), UrbanStylistix EFX
and Amsterdam Street Art Week. The
idea is to engage the local residents,
in production & process driven workshop
during the creation of the mural.
To bring together artists from another
world, but artists that speak the same
language as the residents. To mix and
match each hood with a mind on a
central idea: the open air museum of
Nieuw West.
Through management by glamorous
Outcasts and sponsorship by culture
funds, housing cororations and local
stadsdeel the 9 internationally renowned
artists will:
• deliver 9 monumental paintings;
• engage residents and visitors via
workshops and lectures;
• enhance the existing magnificence of
architecture with warm and vibrant art;
• build pride in residents.
The paintings will be displayed on
chosen and agreed buildings, applied
directly to the wall. Materials used to
create the artwork will be agreed in
advance with the building owners and
may vary from spray paint, long lasting
water base paint to wheat paste ups.
Estimated life of a painting is 12-24
months. The artworks can be cleaned
off afterwards and the costs are included
in the budget.
Information board and QR code/layered
technology marker/ will be positioned
on the same wall. The marker shall connect
the visitor to online content, social
media, and downloadable application,
delivering:
• rich media content, triggering
• bicycle and walking tour guides,
leading to
• existing art exposure, highlighting
• connection to the local activities hub.
