Mutants with differ<strong>en</strong>t ph<strong>en</strong>otypes<br />
less vigorously or faster than wild type lines, or having<br />
altered leaf color. The systematic scre<strong>en</strong>ing of the collection<br />
occurs via highly s<strong>en</strong>sitive chlorophyll fluoresc<strong>en</strong>ce<br />
(CF) imaging which can quantify the electron<br />
flow along the thylakoid membrane.<br />
We are at this mom<strong>en</strong>t only halfway into the first year<br />
of the four-year project and we will continue to work<br />
hard collaboratively with staff and stud<strong>en</strong>ts from two<br />
differ<strong>en</strong>t institutes with their own unique expertise<br />
from within our Faculty of Sci<strong>en</strong>ce. Together with<br />
the innovative technique of g<strong>en</strong>ome interrogation, we<br />
will hopefully yield significant progress with respect<br />
to the insight into the biocomputing programs within<br />
plants. The revolutionary technique by which we aim<br />
at artificially speeding up evolution of more effici<strong>en</strong>tly<br />
photosynthesizing plants will pot<strong>en</strong>tially not only<br />
lead to successes in fundam<strong>en</strong>tal sci<strong>en</strong>ce. Obviously,<br />
we also hope to be able to make an applied contribution<br />
to the mo<strong>der</strong>n problems of our society related to<br />
the increased demands of food and fuel.<br />
