SamenvattingIn dit onderzoek staat centraal wat voor communicatie mogelijk gemaakt wordt door het weblog enwat de toepassingsmogelijkheden ervan zijn. Aan de hand van de theorie van Habermas wordtgekeken of het weblog een platform biedt voor de zogenaamde ‘ideale gesprekssituatie’. Dezegesprekssituatie houdt in dat iedereen gelijke toegang heeft tot de communicatie, er geenmachtsverschillen bestaan tussen de deelnemers aan de communicatie en alle deelnemers zichwaarachtig tegenover elkaar uiten. Om de vraag of het weblog aan deze voorwaarden kan voldoen tebeantwoorden, wordt uitgegaan van de communicatiecapaciteiten zoals die door Van Dijk wordengeformuleerd. De communicatiecapaciteiten worden met een tweetal begrippen uitgebreid. Op basisvan de geformuleerde communicatiecapaciteiten van het weblog kan worden geconcludeerd dat hetweblog inderdaad een platform biedt voor de ideale gesprekssituatie. De toepassingsmogelijkhedenvan het weblog liggen in drie domeinen die door Habermas worden onderscheiden, te wetenzelfexpressie (subjectief), kennisdeling (objectief) en maatschappijkritiek (intersubjectief). Vanuitdeze drie domeinen zullen netwerken ontstaat van mensen met gedeelde interesses die om onderlingeinteractie te versterken het weblog gebruiken als communicatiehub, een ‘fixed marker’ op het internetwaar het gebruik van verschillende communicatiekanalen voor dialoog aan wordt geboden.Abstract ∗This research investigates what form of communication is possible through the weblog and what itsuses are for the future. Taking Habermas’ theory, it will be investigated whether blogs offer a platformfor what he calls the ‘ideal speech situation’. Conditions for the ideal speech situation are thateveryone has equal access to the communication, there are no power differences between theparticipants and that the participants act truthfully towards each other. To answer the question whetherweblogs can satisfy these conditions, the framework of communication capacities of Van Dijk will beused and extended with two concepts. On basis of these communication capacities it can be concludedthat weblogs do offer a platform for the ideal speech situation. Future use of weblogs lie in the threeformal world perspectives Habermas distinguishes: self-expression (subjective), sharing knowledge(objective) and social criticism. From these three domains networks will emerge from people withshared interests, who will reinforce social interaction by using the weblog as a communication hub, afixed marker on the internet where multiple communication channels for dialogue will be offered.∗ This document will be available in a shorter, English version in september 2004.
