CORN

We would like to thank all our customers, dealers, and distributors for making

this past year successful. Your support is greatly appreciated! If you are new to

Federal Hybrids, you can be assured that the varieties highlighted in this brochure

are top-of-the-line seed products with the latest in technologies, genetics, and

traits. We strive to maintain our customers’ trust and business by providing

the highest-quality, best performing corn hybrids, soybean varieties, and

alfalfa seed. We also work hard to provide excellent customer service.

Federal Hybrids is an independent, family-owned company that offers a

broad portfolio of products including Bayer/Monsanto, Syngenta, Corteva

Agriscience (Dow/Dupont), BASF, and others to help maximize your diversity,

thereby reducing your risk. One of the ways Federal Hybrids’ customers

benefit from us being an independent company is through third-party

evaluation of genetic diversity.

In an age of high input costs, today’s farmer needs to closely manage all

aspects of their operation. Deciding which varieties and traits go on each

field is one of the most important input factors we can control. Federal

Hybrids matches your farm’s soil types and farming practices with the best

varieties and traits the industry has to offer. Our knowledgeable, experienced

sales force will help you choose the right varieties and traits for your specific

farm fields to give you the greatest return on your investment.

As we look to the future, we are focusing on farm averages of 300 bushels per

acre on corn, 100 bushels per acre on soybeans, and 10 tons of alfalfa per

acre. Our goal is to help the American farmer increase their production

and be more competitive in today’s marketplace.

We appreciate you being part of our team, and we look forward to being

your seed specialist.

OUR STORY

FOUNDED IN 1932

FEDERAL HYBRIDS

FEDERAL HYBRIDS STORY Federal Hybrids, Inc. has had

a successful history going all the way back to 1932 when

Allen Thurman founded the company in Eastern Iowa.

From the start, Federal Hybrids was on the cutting edge

of new technology by being one of the first companies

to promote single-cross hybrid seed corn in the United

States. Today, that same leading-edge technology is a

core value of Federal Hybrids.

In 1999, Tim and Kathy Butikofer purchased Federal

Hybrids and began marketing seed in neighboring states.

In 2004, Tim and his brother-in-law, Kent Banwart, began

selling seed in Iowa. Kent soon became an owner in the

company. In the past few years, family members Rhett

Jensen and Brennan Fehr, have also become owners in the

company. Federal Hybrids carries on the traditions of

family values, the latest in research and technology,

top seed quality, and diversified products.

Today, Federal Hybrids markets in 20 states and is known

for becoming one of the fastest growing independent

seed companies in the Midwest. In the last eight years,

Federal Hybrids’ growth has increased an average of

25% per year. Our rapid growth is due to a combination

of great people, great products, great performance, and

repeat business.

ELGIN, IA | WEST BEND, IA

Product selection has been the key to our growth and

success. Our distributors are a large part of our product

selection team. We feel our distributors are the ones walking

your fields, knowing your production limiting factors, and

have been a great asset to our product selection process.

Product selection and prescription product placement

are two of the most important decisions that can help

increase your yield and profitability.

Federal Hybrids offers an excellent portfolio of leadingedge

genetics and technology that will significantly

boost profit on every acre planted. Federal Hybrids

continues its well-established relationships with the

industry’s leading genetic and trait providers. Our ability to

access genetics and traits from such a diversified platform

provides the “Federal Yield Advantage”. The Federal

Yield Advantage is evident in many F.I.R.S.T. Trial results,

appreciated by our satisfied customers, and responsible

for our repeat business and rapid growth.

Federal Hybrids is honored to have served the American

farmer for 89 years with the latest in seed technologies,

genetics, and traits. We welcome you to become part

of Federal Hybrids so you, too, can experience the

“Federal Yield Advantage”!

FEDERAL HYBRIDS® CORN

TECHNOLOGY GUIDE

GROW WITH US!

SSTAX RIB | SmartStax® RIB Complete® Corn Blend

SmartStax® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 95% Bt. traited, 5% refuge seed. You get all the benefits of SmartStax®

technology, plus the convenience of 5% refuge seed interspersed in every bag. It has proven to have a 10 bu/A advantage

over non-Bt. traited corn and a 20 bu/A advantage over non-Bt. treated corn + a soil-applied insecticide.

DGVT2 PRO RIB | DroughtGard® Hybrids with VT Double PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend

DroughtGard® Hybrids with VT Double PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend contain the first double-stacked trait with dual

modes of action for above ground insects and maximum protection against corn earworm. Superior genetics along with

innovative drought-tolerant trait technology helps DroughtGard® Hybrids withstand drought conditions for a better

chance of maximizing kernels per ear and overall yield potential.

VT2 PRO RIB | VT Double PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend

VT Double PRO® RIB Complete® Corn Blend is a mix of 95% traited and 5% refuge seed. With refuge-in-a-bag, there’s

no need to calculate or plant separate, structured refuge in the Corn-Growing Area. It contains dual modes of action for

maximum protection against corn earworm and other above-ground pests, like European and Southwestern corn borers

and fall armyworm.

RR | Roundup Ready® Corn 2

Roundup Ready® Corn 2 contains in-plant tolerance to Roundup® brand herbicides, enabling growers to spray Roundup®

brands over the top, from planting through the V8 stage or 30-inch corn height, with excellent crop safety and no yield

reduction. Compared to popular conventional corn programs, the Roundup Ready® Corn 2 system costs less, while

allowing hybrids to reach their maximum yield potential. While the U.S. regulatory agencies have given full approval to

Roundup Ready® Corn 2 for commerce in the U.S. for marketing and consumption as food, food ingredients and feed for

livestock, certain regulatory approvals are pending in certain export markets. For more information on these approvals, or

for assistance in locating domestic grain outlets, see the American Seed Trade Association web site (www.amseed.org) or

contact Monsanto directly at 800-768-6387.

3122 E-Z | Agrisure® 3122 E-Z Refuge® (Agrisure® 3000GT + Herculex® XTRA)

The Agrisure® 3122 E-Z Refuge® trait stack offers the convenience of an E-Z Refuge® seed blend with multiple modes of

action against corn borer and corn rootworm, as well as suppression of ear-feeding insects.

VP3110A | Agrisure Viptera® 3110A (Agrisure Viptera® 3110 + Agrisure Artesian®)

The Agrisure Viptera® 3110A trait stack combines the benefits of a hybrid that maximizes yield when it rains and increases

yield when it doesn’t, with season-long comprehensive above-ground insect control. It is ideal for areas where corn

rootworm management is not a key focus.

GT3011A | Agrisure Artesian® 3011A (Artesian + Agrisure® 3000GT)

The Agrisure Artesian® 3011A trait stack combines a hybrid that converts water to grain more efficiently than other hybrids,

providing improved yield consistency, with traits that control corn borer and corn rootworm, and herbicide flexibility.

VP3110 | Agrisure Viptera® 3110 (Agrisure Viptera® + Agrisure® GT/CB/LL)

The Agrisure Viptera® 3110 trait stack offers season-long comprehensive above-ground insect control. It is ideal for areas

where corn rootworm management is not a key focus.

GTA | Agrisure Artesian® GTA (Artesian + Agrisure® GT)

The Agrisure Artesian® GTA trait stack combines a hybrid that optimizes the conversion of water to grain and provides

improved yield consistency with tolerance to in-crop applications of glyphosate-based herbicides.

SOYBEANS CORN

“2020 will be the second year we plant Federal

Hybrids corn and soybean seed at Case Farms in

southern Michigan. We farm dry land, sandy soil

and have always struggled finding corn hybrids

that bring value to our farm. In 2019, Federal

Hybrids changed the pace with 4990 VT2 PRO

RIB. We look forward to the continued yield

advantage and great drydown/test weight.

Federal Hybrids Distributor Gabe Camp also

changed our “On-The-Farm Experience” with

field visits and follow-up unlike other seed

companies we have used in the past.”

GROW WITH US!

I am very happy to have partnered with Federal

Hybrids for the last 9 years. My distributor,

Kermit White, is a trusted friend and partner.

After every harvest, we evaluate the decisions

we made during that growing season.

I believe Federal Hybrids management and

Kermit make decisions to advance a hybrid

based on how well it will perform for their

farmer partners... it is not based on Federal

Hybrids’ profit potential. Kermit knows my

operation and management style. He takes the

time to research and recommend hybrids that

will be perfect for me. The outstanding service

continues for the entire growing season.

Ten years ago, I never could have imagined the

consistently outstanding yields I harvest with

Federal Hybrids seed. I feel so strongly about

my partnership that I plant 100% of my acres

with Federal Hybrids.

We have been planting Federal Hybrids seed for

the last 5 years. We plant 450 acres of corn and

450 acres of soybeans each year. There is a good

variety of hybrids available in my maturity

range, but Federal Hybrids 4880 VT2 Pro RIB

has been excellent... even in cold weather.

Distributor Scott Stadheim provides exceptional

service. Scott works in conjunction with

President Tim Butikofer and Vice President Kent

Banwart to make things happen; they go above

and beyond. Federal Hybrids and Scott put their

seed into the F.I.R.S.T. trials and University

trials so we can see just how well their seed

does in these trials. This information is very

useful to all growers. Federal Hybrids seed can

be put up against any other seed brands, and it

will either be as good as or beat it!

SOYBEANS CORN

We have been planting Federal Hybrids seed

for 9 years. We use Federal Hybrids corn and

soybeans on all our farm’s acres. Federal

Hybrids 4240 provides consistent yields, heavy

test weight, and great drydown. Federal

Hybrids 5280 is the best top yielder we have

ever had. It has a very good stand, good quality

grain, and provides consistent yields. We have

been very happy with Federal Hybrids seed.

Distributor Gary Miest is the best seed

distributor/salesman we have ever had. He

works hard to accommodate shortages or inseason

growing issues. Follow-up is great all

year round! Federal Hybrids’ staff is courteous,

genuine, and accommodating. They go above

and beyond and are concerned about our wellbeing.

We want to thank Federal Hybrids for

what they have done for our family. We look

forward to continuing our business relationship

into the future.

R2X

The Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybean trait is built on the high-yielding Roundup Ready 2 Yield® technology that farmers

already know and trust.

RXF | XtendFlex® Soybeans

XtendFlex® Soybeans have received full approval for planting in the United States but are pending approval in certain

export markets. For 2020, XtendFlex® soybeans will be available as part of a stewarded introduction only to growers who

have signed a 2020 XtendFlex® Stewardship Agreement and agree to follow the stewardship requirements. Commercial

availability in 2021 is dependent upon regulatory approval.

LLGT+ | LibertyLink® GT27® Soybeans

LibertyLink® GT27®: Created with high-yielding elite genetics, LibertyLink® GT27® soybeans gives growers exceptional

performance coupled with outstanding weed control. LibertyLink GT27 soybeans are the first soybean technology

enabling both Liberty® and glyphosate use over the top. And now, in select counties in certain states, Alite 27 herbicide

adds another effective pre-emergent residual mode of action to the LibertyLink GT27 system. It is the first HPPD herbicide

available for soybeans.

CORN

E3 | Enlist E3® Soybeans

Enlist E3® soybeans provide tolerance to new 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and glufosinate.

®Trademarks of Dow AgroSciences or DuPont, and their affiliated companies or their respective owners. Enlist E3

soybeans were jointly developed by Dow AgroSciences and M.S. Technologies, L.L.C.

*No dicamba may be used in-crop with seed in the Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System, unless and until approved or specifically permitted by the U.S. EPA and the appropriate state agency for such use. As of 7-6-2020,

no dicamba formulations are currently registered by the U.S. EPA for in-crop use with seed in the Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System in the 2021 season. Current stocks of low-volatility dicamba herbicides XtendiMax®

herbicide, Engenia® herbicide and Fexapan® herbicide previously approved for in-crop use with seed in the Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System may not be used after July 31, 2020. Dicamba may harm crops that are

not tolerant to dicamba. Contact the U.S. EPA and your state pesticide regulatory agency with any questions about the approval status of dicamba herbicides products for in-crop use with seed in the Roundup Ready®

Xtend Crop System.

NOTICE: DO NOT APPLY ANY HERBICIDE TO SEED IN THE ROUNDUP READY® XTEND CROP SYSTEM UNLESS IT HAS A PRODUCT LABEL SPECIFICALLY AUTHORIZING THAT USE. TO USE A HERBICIDE IN ANY MANNER INCONSISTENT

WITH ITS LABELING IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW. REFER TO THE BAYER TECHNOLOGY USE GUIDE FOR DETAILS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON USING APPROVED ROUNDUP® BRANDED HERBICIDES ON SEED IN THE ROUNDUP

READY® XTEND CROP SYSTEM.

We have been planting Federal Hybrids

seed for about five years. We typically plant

about 900 corn acres, 600 soybean acres,

and 170 acres of alfalfa. We like that Federal

Hybrids is a family-owned, independent seed

company... and not a big corporation.

We enjoy working with Distributor Nick

Benson, who provides us with top-notch

customer service. Federal Hybrids seed

gives us consistently high yields and highquality

performance in our fields; therefore,

we plant 100% Federal Hybrids seed in our

FEDERAL HYBRIDS® ALFALFA

FEDERAL HYBRIDS

ELGIN, IA | WEST BEND, IA

Alfalfa products offer the potential for

high yields, excellent forage quality and disease resistance.

HVX RR - HARVXTRA® WITH ROUNDUP READY® TECHNOLOGY

CORN ALFALFA

• Gives growers the ability to better manage the yieldversus-quality

tradeoff. It offers more flexibility in

cutting schedule to achieve improved forage quality or

greater yield potential, when compared to conventional

alfalfa at the same stage of maturity.

• The HarvXtra® technology provides unprecedented

flexibility by widening cutting windows, which gives

growers the option of each cutting for: a) maintain their

normal harvest schedules for higher-quality forage,

or b) delay harvest for 7-10 days for increased yield

potential, without sacrificing forage quality, compared

with conventional alfalfa at the same stage of maturity.

HERITAGE RR - ROUNDUP READY® ALFALFA

• The new benchmark for alfalfa technology

• High satisfaction rating among users

• Very fast recovery after harvest

• Great forage quality

• Widely adapted throughout the Midwest

• Excellent winter survival and persistence

• Averages 12-15% less lignin and 12-15% higher neutral

detergent fiber digestibility (NDFd) and relative forage

quality (RFQ) than conventional alfalfa harvested at the

same stage of maturity.

• Stacked with the Roundup Ready® Technology for

unsurpassed weed control with excellent crop safety.

HERITAGE RR Alfalfa is the next generation of Roundup Ready® Alfalfa and provides improvements to growers using this technology.

Heritage RR offers better winter survival than many Fall Dormant 4 alfalfas on the market. This leads to improved persistence and better

production over the life of the stand. Potential for improved weed control, better crop safety, increased yield, and better quality forage,

make Heritage RR the alfalfa of choice for anyone looking for value in their alfalfa. Grower satisfaction is very high and acres planted to this

type of alfalfa continues to increase throughout the United States. This variety is the first choice for growers looking for top production or

who commercially produce hay. If you like Roundup Ready® corn and soybeans, you will like Heritage RR alfalfa. If you are worried about

weed resistance, consider that alfalfa is cut 3 to 5 times a year and those weeds will be clipped off that many times during the season. Plant

Heritage RR alfalfa and take advantage of the freedom to harvest weed-free hay the first crop.

FLAGSHIP ALFALFA - QUALITY ALFALFA

SOYBEANS

• Selected for high resistance to Aphanomyces Race II

• Performs well with or without APH II pressure

• Leading alfalfa with wide adaptation

• Excellent winter survival and persistence

• Excellent yield and quality potential

• Very fast recovery after harvest

• Adapted for 3, 4 or 5 cut system

FLAGSHIP Alfalfa provides a combination of top production with high resistance to Aphanomyces root rot Race II (APH II). This leading

alfalfa will please growers by its resilience, high yield potential, forage quality and dark green color. Strengths of Flagship Alfalfa include

strong offense with excellent defense against all the major alfalfa diseases – including APH II. Place this alfalfa on fields where history

has shown difficulty in establishing alfalfa because of pressure from APH II and wet springtime weather. It will even shine under ideal

conditions on good ground without heavy disease pressure. This is an all-around solid alfalfa.

Properly managing trait technology is key to preserving it as a long term crop protection tool. Growers who fail to comply with IRM requirements risk

losing access to this product. To help preserve the effectiveness of B.t. corn technologies, growers planting B.t. corn technologies are required to follow

an IRM Plan. Consult the Corn Product Use Guide for appropriate refuge configuration options. Before opening a bag of seed, be sure to read,

understand and accept the stewardship requirements, including applicable refuge requirements for insect resistance management, for the biotechnology traits expressed

in the seed as set forth in the Technology Use Agreement and Product Use Guide. By opening and using a bag of seed, you are reaffirming your obligation to comply with

the most recent stewardship requirements. For complete details on IRM requirements for hybrids with Bt technology, including refuge examples and important

information on the use of insecticides on refuge and Bt corn acres, please consult appropriate Product Use Guide. Go to www.corteva.us/Resources/trait-stewardship.html

to download the latest Corteva Agriscience Corn Product Use Guide.

Seed containing a patented trait can only be used to plant a single commercial crop from which seed cannot be saved and replanted. Examples of seed containing a

patented trait include but are not limited to Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybeans, Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans, TruFlex Canola, Genuity® Roundup Ready®

spring canola, and Genuity® Roundup Ready® winter canola. Additional information and limitations on the use of these products are provided in the Monsanto Technology

Stewardship Agreement, the Monsanto Technology Use Guide, and 2016 Technology Use Guide Addendum to include Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Soybean. U.S. patents for

Monsanto technologies can be found at the following webpage: www.monsantotechnology.com.

IMPORTANT IRM INFORMATION: RIB Complete® corn blend products do not require the planting of a structured refuge except in the Cotton-Growing Area where

corn earworm is a significant pest. SmartStax® RIB Complete® corn blend is not allowed to be sold for planting in the Cotton-Growing Area. See the IRM/Grower Guide

for additional information. Always read and follow IRM requirements.

DroughtGard® Hybrids with RIB Complete® corn blend the refuge seed may not always contain DroughtGard® Hybrids trait.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW PESTICIDE LABEL DIRECTIONS. Roundup Ready® technology contains genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, an active

ingredient in Roundup® brand agricultural herbicides. Agricultural herbicides containing glyphosate will kill crops that are not tolerant to glyphosate.

ALWAYS READ AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS FOR USE ON PESTICIDE LABELING. IT IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL AND STATE LAW to use any pesticide product other

than in accordance with its labeling. NOT ALL formulations of dicamba or glyphosate are approved for in-crop use with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans. ONLY USE

FORMULATIONS THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY LABELED FOR SUCH USES AND APPROVED FOR SUCH USE IN THE STATE OF APPLICATION. Contact the U.S. EPA and your state

pesticide regulatory agency with any questions about the approval status of dicamba herbicide products for in-crop use with Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans.

Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans contain genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate and dicamba. Products with XtendFlex® Technology

contains genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, glufosinate and dicamba. Glyphosate will kill crops that are not tolerant to glyphosate. Dicamba will

kill crops that are not tolerant to dicamba. Glufosinate will kill crops that are not tolerant to glufosinate. Contact your seed brand dealer or refer to the Monsanto

Technology Use Guide for recommended weed control programs.

XtendFlex® soybeans have received full approval for planting in the United States but are pending approval in certain export markets. For 2020, XtendFlex®

soybeans will be available as part of a stewarded introduction only to growers who have signed a 2020 XtendFlex® Stewardship Agreement and agree to follow

the stewardship requirements. Commercial availability in 2021 is dependent upon regulatory approval.

Performance may vary from location to location and from year to year, as local growing, soil and weather conditions may vary. Growers should evaluate data from

multiple locations and years whenever possible and should consider the impacts of these conditions on the grower’s fields.
