Harvard-statistikeren Donald B. Rubin: ”Standard modeling software can<br />

a<strong>ut</strong>omatically handle many regressor variables and produce results,<br />

although they can be remarkably misleading. With many confounding<br />

covariates, however, the issues of lack of adequate overlap and reliance on<br />

untrustworthy modelbased extrapolations are even more serious than with<br />

only one confounding covariate.” (Rubin 1997: 759).<br />

”When an estimate is deri<strong>ved</strong> using a regression model, especially one with<br />

many regressors, it may become difficult to judge how much the estimate<br />

reflects the data and how much it reflects the model. To investigate the<br />

source of results, we recommend one compare model-based results to the<br />

corresponding tabular (categorical-analysis) results.” (Rothman &<br />

Greenland 1998: 407).<br />
